Hi friends! My bypass date is 8/7! It feels surreal that it’s actually happening after such a long process for insurance approval. Some days I’m really excited and some days I’m terrified. My one week liquid preop diet starts 7/31.

I had RNY but it's probably similar. I don't go by ounces anymore - I just know that it takes about 1600 calories to maintain my current body weight, so I try to stay around there (or under if I want to lose a few pounds). And the above person is right - the number of oz depends on the food. I can easily eat 8 oz of yogurt. But a piece of meat? No way. Maybe 2 or 3 oz.
btw - no one would be able to tell now that I've had weight loss surgery. They'd just assume I'm a "light eater", just like lots of my female friends are who've never had a weight problem. I'll go to a restaurant and order a salad or an appetizer. Or I'll get an entree and eat half of it (and box up the rest to take home).

I had RNY on 8/7 so just finishing day 2 PO. I will not lie, the first day (day of surgery) was rough, I could not have made it through with out having my parents with me. I’m learning quickly that a support system makes all the difference - physically and mentally. Pain isn’t so bad today, I still feel nauseous/bloated/have gas pains and that’s the worst of it. Everyday gets truly gets better! I was a wreck the morning of surgery but I pushed through and am proud of myself for making a hard choice. I’m anticipating regret hitting me soon again (was majorly regretting on surgery day) but I think the key post op is to just focus on taking really good care of yourself, reaching out for help, walking and sipping. Best of luck!!!!

I waited about six months. I usually do spirits and some kind of non-carbonated mixer (unsweetened iced tea or sugar free lemonade/limeade work well). Be careful if you've lost a lot of weight, though...me at 245 could drink a LOT more than me at 95, so you definitely want to try it the first time when you're either at home or have a Designated Driver because I guarantee your tolerance will be much lower than you expect. I HAVE to limit myself to 1-2 servings (not "drinks", servings of alcohol, of which many cocktails contain more than one) or I get sloppy.
I want to point out that I only drink once a month before someone pipes up to tell me I'm on a train with stops back in Fattown and Chubbyville again. Learning to indulge intelligently and moderaterly, in my opinion, is a key to long term success.
