Hopelives... I live in Nyc also. I originally wanted to go to Nyu Medical Center with Dr Ren & Fielding But A Coordinator(allison) told me that I wasn't heavy enough and that my bmi had to be 40. I was like wth my bmi was 39!! Anyways she told me to gain 5-10lbs and I would be ready to proceed. No one ever told me that I need to gain weight b4. But the process was a 6 month journey. My mom & I decided to go 2 Mexico with Dr. Kuri instead. I didn't get my exact date yet but I am to be banded hopefully by the end of this month. Congrats to Steve-stay strong and focused and you'll be just fine.

Did anyone have surgery with dr kuri in tijuana? If so, how was your experience? What were the travel, and preop arrangements? How long was the trip?

Kaytaree: Im having my surgery done in Mexico also. Im not familiar with the travel arrangements yet though. Why do u need to travel to California? Isn't Mexico the opposite direction?

I agree with you pstroud. Im having my surgery done this month and I go back to school next month. I decide that im not going to tell anyone at school because they are going to make a big deal about it and do typical childish crap(gossip,rumors,hating) Im too good to be subjected to negativity. The only people that knows is my family. The only person in my family that is not supportive is my older sister. She heavy too. She was saying dumb remarks like (you stupid if you want to have people cut you open and sew you back) But yet she started considering the surgery. I guess she doesn't want me 2 me thin (dumbass) Well that's her personal problem. Im on my way to a healthier,happier, & more confident me and im never looking back. By the way good luck to everyone with their weight loss journey.

Does everyone have to take off jewelry ie.(body piercings) because I have quite a few and I want to know if it must be removed or if there are alternatives. I also read that no makeup or nail polish is allowed. Anyone ever heard of this??

I hear people saying that they take like 2 breaths from the mask before being knocked out cold. Is that true or just an exaggeration(sp)? Also, did anyone have any fears about the anesthesia?

Just out of curiosity: Is it true that younger bandsters are more likely to not need surgery for loose skin?? I heard that younger peoples skin will mold itself back? Or is there a special exercise to be done?

I heard that so people have some kind of sleep test done on them. Is that for sleep apnea or something? And was anyone afraid of the anesthesia because I am.

Does the iv hurt? I have a thing with needles. And how do they get you from the surgery table to the gurney to be wheeled into recovery? Do they lift you up?
