@Nifer72 I hope you are doing well. I’m wondering did you meet your goal and how have your weight loss been and your restriction?

My revision was a bit more... complicated than most. Due to unforseen issues (basically one anastomosis was not done right), the surgery in March had to be aborted after 3hrs. New surgery was scheduled for June to allow for healing. 2nd surgery, the surgeon discovered another surprise. My common channel was only 25cm and the configuration of my intestines was not the rny configuration. He had to back my common channel to 300cm, cut out a portion of my pouch and small intestines due to necrotic tissue. This surgery took 8hrs!

So almost 9months post op, I do have better restriction than I did with my surgery 22 years ago, but I'm absorbing more. I'm down 50lbs so it's been slow going, but I'm still losing.

Thanks for asking, Hope you are doing well on your journey.

It has been a bit traumatic, very angry with my original surgeon, but I am proud of the progress. The nsv's have been great! Was able to touch my toes today lol!

Hi. Curious how your surgery went? How is your weightloss? Are you having any complications?

My surgeries were eye opening. I had surgery in March, where my surgeon discovered, my previous surgery was done wrong so he had to abort and close me back up. He had to assess the next steps to consider how to fix the issue he found. We made a plan and I had to wait three months for my next surgery.

I had my 2nd surgery June 27th. Dr Chaisson was going to fix the issues he found the first time and do the revision. Surgery was expected to be 3 hrs but ended up being 8hrs long. This time, with a more thorough look at the anatomy, he found out my common channel was only 25cm long and my pouch was larger than expected. Both of those things mean that I never had a RNY bypass but a biliopancreatic diversion. So my surgeon had to fix the issues with my anamostasis to the pouch, resize my pouch and make my common channel longer.

So it wasn't what we expected at all, my loss has been slow, but I've lost about 50lbs since June.

  4. Hi! Sorry I haven't been around much. Did you have a Distal revision or a revision to a duodenal switch (they are different). Anyway, I'm doing ok. I'm calling it the surgery that wasn't.

So I did have surgery on March 21st. Dr went in and had to clean a bunch of adhesions and fix a hernia before he saw that things didn't look the way they should. It wasn't the normal, expected RNY anatomy. He couldn't complete the surgery without coming up with a new surgical plan. As it was a 1 hr surgery had already turned into 3 from the adhesions and hernia repair.

As of right now, I go back to see my surgeon tomorrow to see what our/my options are and figure out the best surgical plan for me.

    How did your surgery go?

  5. It's been a rough couple of days since being released from the hospital. Woke yesterday in a lot more pain and running a fever of 102.5 and chills. Called the surgeon and he said just to take some Tylenol. My partners were not ok with that so they took me to the er just to make sure there was no infection. No infection, ileus causing bowel obstruction/constipation that I'm just supposed to take stool softeners (which I already was) and a fleet enema. Like the constipation/slow motility is the reason we were going for the distal revision so since the revision wasn't done, this isn't going to change. I also expected the pain and they treated me like I was there looking for drugs because I'm a chronic pain patient. I'm not sure why I expected anything different. Still running the high fever if I fall behind on the Tylenol.

My surgeon does keep callin, and gave me his cell phone number if there were any other issues. I reminded him this morning that slow motility/constipation was one of the issues I was complaining about prior to surgery. He said we would be looking at a "more sophisticated " surgery than the distal RNY but we would talk more at my follow-up

  6. So things didn't go exactly as planned with me yesterday. When do they ever? Surgery was only supposed to be an hour ended up being over 3 hours. Doctor found a lot of adhesions that he had to clear up before he could see exactly what was going on. My previous surgeon from 20 years ago did an older version of the surgery which included a loop that my current surgeon wasn't expecting and made my new surgery more dangerous so he had to fix a hernia that was there and basically had to abort the surgery were planning on doing. Which means I'm going to need a different surgery once I heal up from this one. I am doing okay now of course I'm in some pain I had abdominal surgery yesterday regardless of the changes to our plans.

Just clocked out of work for the last time. Got final physician approval yesterday and all systems are go for Monday.

Pre-op liquid/protein bar diet has not been bad. Not much hunger except late in the day, but been supplementing with some broth and sugar free Jello and ice pops.

One week off after surgery, followed by one week of computer-based training at work where I'll get to take it easy.

    I'm set for Monday too.

  9. First time in over a week I've had any cravings. I think because it's because I realized, after the call from the hospital today, how close I am, and how I'm going to have to have to commit the long haul from here on out to cutting certain foods from my diet. I'm not even craving sweets (blame the Protein Drinks lol) but a nice bowl of buttery popcorn lol. Ugh. Carbs are my downfall. Always have been.

My surgery was supposed to be tomorrow. My 2 week modified-liquid went great. I was down the 25 pounds my surgeon wanted. I took the required Covid test yesterday and failed! I'm feeling fine, just a minor cold, but the surgery has been put off until June 21. I'm completely devastated. Very sad not to be joining the rest of you March surgery buddies. I'm not sure what the next 90+ days will bring.

I am so sorry, I can't even imagine. Hopefully the time will go quickly.

  11. I had RNY 21 years ago, I'm scheduled for a revision from proximal RNY (standard one most people get) to a Distal RNY where they make the roux limb longer by bypassing more small intestine than they do on the standard RNY. I'm getting this distal revision done Monday March 21st (6 more sleeps! Yikes!). My Dr says he does them as out patient, which kinda boggles my mind (I figured at least an overnight stay), and I'll go home same day. Has anyone else experienced this? I know there aren't many distal rivisioners that I've run across.

Thanks. I'm not sharing for anyone to feel bad.. I just want to share to maybe spur others to go down the rabbit hole bravely - if needed.

Oh I understand. Our issues with food arise from all kinds of things. People need to know they aren't alone and they aren't a failure. We've got to deal with the mental aspects of obesity. For many, obesity is a symptom and not the root problem. Good luck to you!

Oh yeah, stress is what kicked this whole debacle off. And grief. I was 170lbs. in 2019. I had 5 major life events in a short span of time (3 months) and then I lost my baby 25weeks later . Devastation. always will be. But I don't have to stop living anymore.

I maintained 165-175lb average from with fitness and healthy foods. 11 years in the USAF.

I started spiraling after being seated directly across from abuser at a family wedding. The wedding coincided with the high stress life events. and it set off my eating.

    Ugh, I am so sorry.

I read your post as singing and not signing, so I was imagining you like a Disney princess singing so beautifully - your arms out stretched twirling as birds chirp near by. lol as your signing in.

I was so excited, too. But then I was very surprised that I started having the internal questioning (am I doing the right thing, what will happen if I die, can something go wrong, etc.) and a high level of emotion as I was trying to fall asleep -the night before wake up for surgery. I did sleep though, I know I need to see a therapist after I get healed to deal with the primary issues that drive me to use food as an absolute coping mechanism. I need to deal with childhood sexual trauma, establish boundaries and even build some walls.

Nice vision of you as your own Disney princess. ❤️

OMG! That is so funny! Hmm I think I would be either Anna or Belle as a Disney princess, their personalities suit me to a T. Just wish I could sing! Lol

Yes, therapy is important to get rid of those underlying issues. I've been in therapy for years, but doing the pre-op, and sticking to it, has made me really see how stress and boredom were really a lot of the reasons I would make the wrong food choices more often than not. It has been an eye opener for me.

Same here, when is your surgery date? Mine is the 21st. I am tired of shakes though, I have been on my pre-op diet since the 7th. Good thing tho, I lost 12 lbs so far since I started the pre-op. haha

We are surgery twins. Mine is the 21st at 10:30 pacific time. I've lost 19 so far on the pre-op diet.
