I had my surgery on the 4th. I also had hernia repaired. My stomach hurts, I feel bloated, and it's difficult to drink anything. I've also been sleeping alot. Im not worried about the pain when drinking anymore, as others have had the same issue. It's a journey and not an easy one, but Im willing to take it. Wishing everyone the best!

Hello to all of the April surgery buddies. I have been looking at this forum for a few weeks now and finally decided to create an account. I had to complete a 2 week liquid only diet. The first 3 days were awful but after I was able to make it through. I had the gastric sleeve and a hiatal hernia repair on April 5th. So I am 3 days post op. I feel better today than I was day 1 post op. I've been getting in about 55 ounces of fluids (water), and 50 grams of Protein (shakes) in thus far. The trick is that I have to start sipping around 6am to reach this goal by 11:00pm
Currently, I'm still experiencing gas pains and I get spasms in my stomach when I drink anything cold. So everyday I'm learning something new with my new stomach. I have my first follow up appointment next week and I can't wait to move to soft foods stage. I am sooooo over the sweet taste.
For those of you who are now post op, how are you holding up? Do you still feel bloated, and are you able to tolerate cold liquids? I look forward to hearing from you all soon.

I hope the april surgeries who went this week OR today are are on the mend and doing well! I am apparently going to get a CPAP as I received a call from the CPAP Home person today and she said that my doctor had just ordered it. She said she will be in contact with me regarding when it can be picked up.🤷‍♀️
I spoke with the Personal Nurse Advocate on Wednesday. She was nice, but didn't have anymore information at this point than I do. 🤷‍♀️ She and I had a good long laugh at the fact that it was quite obvious my surgery would NOT be Monday, 4/11. 🤷‍♀️ She told me she would put in a call to the surgeon's practice and find out what was going on. THIS is what's going on: I'm getting a CPAP machine. 🤷‍♀️ Oh, and I haven't heard back from the PNA yet. 🤷‍♀️
I am now thinking that it might be a good idea for me to look into surgery mid-June when school ends. I know I am having a hernia repair and RNY, and in light of those facts, i'm thinking that more time to recover would likely be smarter than less time. My husband agrees.
Lots of shrugging in this post...🤷‍♀️...I did everything I could to have this happen on Monday, but it's just not to be. Time to get the house cleaned to within an inch of its life, and just wait. It's all good. Wishing everyone a restful weekend!

I'm new here. Gastric Bypass scheduled for 4/22. I went for EKG, labs & chest Xray yesterday. I go to my surgeon today for my results.
I also started my 2 week liver reduction diet today.

I experienced low oxygen level day 1 post op too while in the hospital. after they gave me the right medication and a little rest my levels turned around for the better. I was so happy to get discharged because I got zero rest being in the hospital lol.

Feeling suicidal is a huge red flag that you need to find someone to talk to VERY urgently. Imagine if it was your best friend saying what you have just said…how would you help them? What would you say? Be your own best friend and seek help, be kind to yourself. It makes me so sad to read your post. I suspect you are going through a very real grief process, being angry is part of it….you will reach acceptance if you allow yourself to go through the process. It’s Ok to not feel Ok sometimes you know. It’s normal. You aren’t alone, you have reached out with your feelings and it’s a privilege to be able to ‘talk’. You will be Ok eventually you know, but it will take time, courage, talking and acceptance. xxx

I went through this too, it's a combination of things, hormones, grief for the loss of your old life style , the fear of the unknown about your new life. It can be very overwhelming and unfortunately many surgeons and their teams don't even acknowledge this side of surgery let alone warn you it could happen. Considering how common this is it should be discussed so when patients do experience this they can at least realise its normal and will pass.

I went through exactly the same thing so I know first hand how you are feeling. First of all reach out to someone who can help you with the suicidal thoughts get some counselling asap. Gosh I was that bad I was bawling to my mother that I now wanted a stomach transplant 😳. I felt awful I wanted to die I spent 6 weeks curled up in a ball on my sisters couch. I did the old but I wasn't that big blah blah blah. What you are going through is grief and you will go through all the stages some more than once. When I started loosing weight I would tell people I would gladly have the weight back just to feel normal again. I totally get how you feel. Hormones have a lot to do with this I was perimenopausal and ended up on Patches as I said to my Dr I can't deal with both meaning the effects of surgery and menopause, so that helped alot. It gets better trust me on this. I cried multiple times a day for weeks, I didn't go to work thank God I had plenty of leave saved up but going back home and back to work helped me get back into my routine and gave me something else to to think about. On your path to recovery the good days will slowly out number the bad days. I couldn't talk about surgery without crying for months. I would tell people it should be outlawed all sorts of crazy stuff. So now I am 8 months post op and feel so much better. I am 35 kilos down and have come to the realisation that I wouldn't have lost the weight without the surgery, yes I went through a stage of if only a stuck to the pre op changes I made I wouldn't have had to have surgery... But I can't say this enough and you are probably thinking yeah right what do you know it's worse for me but I do know and it will get better just be gentle on yourself try to do things you enjoy spend time with supportive people who will look after you when you need it. You are not alone it gets better, how long will it take you I don't know it took me 6 months and I think when I realised I could eat and drink "normally" again I got better quicker. Now I am fighting another battle but that's a story for another day. Love your restriction while you have it. Get your Protein in stay hydrated. Had my surgery March 23 and now I absolutely hate my life. I wish I canceled the whole thing even 4 hrs before I was supposed to fly out. All I think about is suicide now and that now life is pointless. I see my doctor Wednesday, but seeing so many be happy about the choice seems to make me even more angry at myself because I was never that big to begin with ..but my mental issues told me otherwise. I can't be the only person who had gastric sleeve to feel this way... so very alone.

My sleeve is scheduled for April 27th. I start my liquid diet on April 12th. It is great to have a network of April surgery buddies!

@Nicole T and I get our surgery times at 2 PM! I've also been doing the "anxious" cleaning. My house never looked so good! The nerves are starting to truly set in!

Okay April 6 th surgery peeps, our day is tomorrow! I'm excited, antsy, nervous, and rarin' to go! Doing a load of laundry now, washing my security blanket/poncho/robe to take. Washing my CPAP so it's ready to go with too, washing my body tonight ,lol, with the special soap for the third night in a row. Wedding rings removed and all other jewelry. Grabbing charging cord and phone and tablet to take too. Just waiting for call to verify surgery time. Right now, scheduled for 9:45am. How are the rest of you doing?

My surgery is in Ann Arbor. Best wishes to you. I'm feeling a bit nervous, excited...so many emotions. Mostly I'm just ready to start the rest of my life.🙂
