    I am so upset!

Hi, I'm so sorry that you had to experience such a horrible act in your life. Not only that you still have to come face to face with it in your adult life. Plus have people that you feel should protect you from any and everything be the abuser (father) and the one that doesn't beleive you(mother)... how horrible. I can't even pretend to know your pain. But I can congratulate you for trying to live your life to the fullest by surviving, thriving, and improving your life in areas you deem necessary. Good for you for trying to reach out to your parents in order to have some kind of relationship. But if it ever comes to the point where you're compromising your health and happiness in order to make everybody else happy then you may need to examine the situation to see if it's worth the sacrifice. I agree with the earlier post... Is it necessary for you to attend the same events especially if you know your parents are going to be there? Is it worth you not being a 100 percent wife or mother to the people that matters the most in your life? I know that I'm not willing to have anyone including family in my life if they prohibit me from being a happy and healthy mother to my son. Another thing is if you've forgiven your parents in your heart then sometimes that is enough to give you peace of mind to move on with your life and embrace and enjoy your life to the fullest. I wish you the best.

Hi, Congrats on coming this far in the game. Don't worry about the rescheduled appt. Girl, you're almost there breathe in deeply and relax. I was banded on 8/4/08. I know you're excited because I couldn't wait to get my surgery date. As far as support I feel you on that but I've also learned that there are some people (including family) that you can't share this kind of experience with...I don't know if they may hate on you are not give you the kind of support you need. Sometimes you can find the best support from strangers going through the same journey you're going through. It's all good keep a positive attitude and work towards your first goal on your new journey. PEACE and Welcome TO THE CLUB.
  3. I will have my first fill next week. Let me tell you if I eat too fast I get indigestion. If I eat any kind of fried food it hurts when it goes down. (Hey give me a break I'm a newbie) I know you all are saying or thinking (fried food...what is she doing). But I definitly fill the band so to speak.
  4. Plain- I asked her that same question earlier in the thread if she could loose the weight on her own to begin with then why did she get the band in the first place. :crying:
  5. I hear what you're saying Kellster, and I know your trying to be nice, but If I had came to my surgeon with the attitude that LapBandFree had in regards to the Lap Band I wouldn't have the Lap band now. My surgeon would have told me to go back for another psych evaluation. Boy! Ignorance must be bliss. No way would I stand by for three years unfilled, and throwing up everyday without seeking a doctors help. HELL NO! If I had to go to 10,000.00 doctors until something was finally done about my condition then that is what i would have done. That's almost like walking around with a HOLE IN YOUR HEAD. Well I like to tell everyone I feel good. I can eat salad, tea, chicken, beef, pizza, ect. and I can go on and on and on. Boy I need my first fill. The scale started going down one week after I had surgery I had biggest smile on my face. My breathing is a lot better too for someone who was diagnosed with asthma. It would had been nice if you said "The Lap Band was not for me," and then give you're reason why it didn't work for you. But to put out a message like you did was totally wrong. I have yet to see a post saying to everyone- Lap Band- Do it!! Be Happy For life. No what I've seen is people talking about their experience both pro and con. You know the difference between you and them is that if something went wrong they'll admit just like I've posted that they did something to cause whatever problem it is. LAPBANDFREE STOP THE MADNESS!:crying:

    Devastated!

I was in the same boat too! But my blessing came by way of my employer changing insurance companies. How many insurance options does your employer offer. My employer drop their contract with my old insurance company so I was forced with the new insurance company. I went in for my annual checkup and my doctor finally saw the light and approved the Lap band I called my new insurance company to ask if they would cover they say that they did but of course I had to medically meet certain guidelines and of course they made me jump through loopes. But the whole process took me a matter of three months. I don't know if this helps.
  7. Good for you Kellster! I feel a little sorry for her because she sounds like someone took a gun to her head and force the Lap Band in her body. And I can't understand any person not taking responsibility for their own failure...as if the Lap Band formed a pair of lips and talked her into eating ice cream, chocolate, and cheetos for the past three years. I wonder why she got the band to begin with because now her claim is that she is loosing weight on her own. Then if that is the case why didn't you just do that from the beginning.
  8. OK LESLIE! THEN SHE'S DEFINITLY A TROLL. LOL:lol:
  9. Oh yeah! By the way. I was banded August 4, 08. I've had some discomfort. You know what I don't blame the band because of two reasons... when I feel discomfort I know I'm doing something wrong whether it's eating or drinking too fast. It also could be I'm eating too much. The second reason why I don't blame the band because I did my research for 3 years and I address all my questions and concerns to my doctor before surgery. THAT'S WHAT RESPONSIBLE BIG GIRLS AND BOY DO! No pun intended.
  10. Hey! You know what I was getting ready to ask the same thing. Why would you choose ice cream, chocolate and cheetos to eat instead of more healthier soft foods? Why didn't you go to your doctor when having these difficulties. It would have been worth the doc. visit considering the expense and time I'm sure you invested when getting the band. Did you have the correct mind set when you decided to get the Lap Band or did you set yourself up for failure. Why did you loose your hair... were you taking your Vitamins and supplements. Did you exercise during those three years. Did you have a psych evaluation? Did you ask your doctor about any and everything regarding the Lap band. DO YOU TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURE OF YOUR LAP BAND EXPERIENCE I don't think it's fair that they call you a troll but I can see there point you do sound a little ridiculous. But I do wish you the very best in your new weightloss journey. I hope you are making healthier decisions when it comes to your eating. And I wish you peace in your mind and life.

    Twoterville

Hi, It's me... Thanks for sharing Marie. Hey Crzytchr! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm very grateful for both. I got a little scared because it seemed I was starting to go up instead of going down or at least maintaining. This morning I step on the scale and I'm back to 323 which is good news. I'm heading in the right direction

    Twoterville

    banded and depressed

PLEASE GO BACK TO DOCTOR!!! HURRY!:biggrin:I'm not trying to be funny:tongue_smilie: But you are most definitly not alone when it comes to having the Lap Band let me tell you... I've just had my Lap inserted the 4th day of this month and even though I've only lost 12lbs so far (I've gained back 3lbs) I'm so glad I made this decision. You want to know why? Because for the last two years was stuck at 334 pounds and to see that scale move down instead of up gave me much joy. I don't know what you're going through...maybe it's a funk or something but whatever the case. You need to see the doctor so that you can get help in getting back on track and getting a more positive attitude towards life and the tool (Lap Band) that can help you achieve your weightloss goal. I hope this encourages you and not upset you. But if it does... I don't care if it means getting you to go and see your doctor...so be it. Step away from the ice cream, chips and dip and make that appt. now! I Wish You Health And Happiness. Peace

    I'm Banded now!

Hey, What's up with all of you haven't been on this forum since we discuss secret crushes. Wow! Is all have to say to those pushy nurses and congratulations to the both of you. I was banded 8/4/08 and I'm at the end of my fourth week and will be getting my first fill 9/12/08. I can't wait for the fill because I've been bad when it comes to what I've been eating. Appetite is definitly back and in full effect. So I know after my surgery I was able to rest until I woke myself up and when I did she let me lay there a little longer. Once I got back to my orginal room I was asked if I was ready to start walking because they wanted me to walk so as to move some of that gas. Then after I walked the hall back and forth they wanted to test the band to see if I could swallow and how the liquid went through the band. That was neat because they stood me in front of this X-ray machine which showed my inside with the band and the liquid going through the band. That was fun. Then I sat down some more I think they wanted me to use the bathroom I told them I needed something to encourage that act. So they offered me a choice of liquid or popsicle. After I had my popsicle and use the bathroom I was good to go. I was still out of it when I left the clinic. But I was good. I could tell they didn't want me to stay to long. But they definitly made sure I was alright before discharging me. I was sent home with a prescription for a BIG bottle of (knock you out, feel no pain, go to sleep, you won't have an appetite) pain killer that lasted me for that first week. Is was the easiest 12lb that I ever lost because I was too out of it to eat anything. But you two take it easy and don't rush the healing process. Oh Yeah! Liquid Tylenol will probably become your best friend for the next couple of weeks.

Hey Miss Becky, I'm fine my weekend was too short as always. I probably ate to much I can't wait for my first fill Sept. 12th. Life is so different after the band. I can't wait until you get your band...Have you heard anything yet. Girl I watch this program on tv called "The Secret Lives Of Women" and the episode that I watch was about extreme weight loss. Two of the women highlighted on the program had Lapbands and let me tell me they lost a hell of a lotta weight. It was crazy. Just think Becky that could be us next year. I'm so excited. I know you'll be excited once you're banded. Then we can do this together.LOL

Yeah! That was the women of color forum. But anyway who am I to judge. But I'm not going to lie. I use to have that same hang up, because usually the black men that I met who had a white woman always had a negative attitude towards black women. They were always trying to put black women down. That's my only hang up if you going to be with another race I rather hear you say you do it because you fell in love or because that's your preference. Not because you think so negative about the women in your own race. One person doesn't represent a whole race. If that man has a child with his (white) wife or girlfriend he passes that negativity on to the children. Who sometimes grow up being confuse and not able to relate with a race that they are a part of. Which is sad especially if that child is a girl. How do you think that a interacially mix little girl feels about herself knowing this is what her father thinks of black women. If it's done out of love and your children are being raise well balanced and is taught to embrace their ethnicity on both sides then I say more power to you and I wish you well. I have enough going on in my life than trying to run and judge someone else's life. Only a miserable person goes around trying to make other people sad and miserable, and Miss Becky I'm not one of them...so you be happy with your family and all the love. You can't worry about what people think (and I'm not saying that you are) that will drive you crazy:scared2: Peace:redface:

Girl, U R crazy! I'm from Kansas City, MO. My Grandmother and the rest of the elder were born and raised in Texas. So sometimes I may sound like I'm from Tyler, TX but I was born, raised and still live in Kansas City. But I love me some TX thats my family roots. They came from a small town in Texas that don't exit anymore. We also think a like when it comes to wanting to be sexy. And when it comes to money. My husband claims that's why he has to work so hard because in his words "I luv money":biggrin2: and he's right I do. Wow! We have somethings in common. Now I know you join the Women of color forum. But let me ask you (and it dosen't matter to me just curious) are you white or black or other:blush: You're mad cool in my book already.

    New Here....

Hey Becky, Hey Robyn, No, I didn't have to pay for my surgery. My insurance covered the cost. I have wanted the Lap Band since 2005. But my employer carried Humana and Humana HMO would not consider covering the cost of weight loss surgery. So low and behold at the beginning of this year January 08 to be exact my insurance change. I contacted the new insurance company as soon as possible and asked them would they cover weight loss surgery they said "yes" but of course they tried to make me jump through a hundred hoopes before they approved the surgery. Anything to discourage and keep you from making them pay for anything. So then I got little discourage. Plus I have one of those doctors that beleive in eat less exercise more. But I was tired of trying that route without help from something like the Lap Band. My body has been through so much and I felt I just couldn't lose weight by myself anymore. I have thyroid issues and I'm a twice cancer survivor. So I knew I needed help. So when I had My physical this past March. My doctor surprised me by asking how was my lap band coming along. I was like you was against the lap band...I talk to you about it before, but I don't have the lap band. Then just like that he handed me a flyer to a weight loss surgical center that they had given to their office and referral and I was on my way. I didn't have to wait for the six month weight evaluation period because I've been trying to lose weight for 12 years and my doctor had it documented in my medical records as proof. I've tried Phen Phen, Redux, and the diet pill that if you eat to much fat then you mess your undies because the fat will liquidfy and leak from your rear end. I've been to nutritionist, and so many other things I would lose 30lbs and gain 60lbs. So the only thing I had to do was have my Psych eval. Cardiology test, and have the pre-op appt. with the doc. All this started in 04/08 and I had my surgery 8/4/08. Yes, Becky I do work. I went back to work one week after the surgery. The first and second week was challenging but as I'm coming to the end of the 3rd week I feel pretty good. Like I said all I need is that first fill and permission to exercise and I'm positive that I'll be real good:wink_smile:

    Sexual Peak

Ok! Can I just put in my two cents. I'm 39 years old. I will turn 40 next April. Lost my virginity at 23. My mother raised me to be a good girl. Keep my legs closed until marriage. Well... that didn't happen. But I didn't enjoy sex in my twenties. I just didn't have the right partner. But I did have a baby. Was celibate for eight long years. Got caught up in the motherhood thing during those years. And then I met a man 13 years my senior and it was like he woke up something in me. And let me tell you it was so amazing to experience somethings in my thirties that a good girl like me would had never thought of doing in my twenties.:wink2: Now I'm more adventurous and I absolutely love good sex. The only thing that keeps me from truly getting the full experience is this weight, because I can't get into certain positions. But once the weight comes off my hubby better get ready. My energy and sex drive is really high now, but when I get smaller...Well, let's just say I hope I don't hurt the man:wink_smile: Oh Yeah! And as far as being self conscious about my body... at 27 I had a lumpectomy and at 37 I had a mastectomy. I'm waiting for reconstructive surgery after I lose some of this weight. So you definitly need to have self confidence about your body and love it no matter. It never slowed me down and the men (pass) and present don't seem to mind one bit.
