I have to do 5 shakes a day with nothing else.
800 calories, 75 g of Protein is what the shakes equal.

Round three of doing this liquid diet.

    Day three of this round.

Why round three? Did your surgery get cancelled? That’s worse then doing it once. I know we will be on liquids after so I have to keep drinking. I just made some broth because I think it’s the sweetness that’s getting to me from the Protein Shakes.

I had my pre-op appointment yesterday. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I'm starting to get nervous. I'm scared of something going wrong. I have the absolute worst luck when it comes to my health. I mean, how many 41 year olds do you know that has narcolepsy, lupus, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, significant c8 neuropathy, asthma, pseudotumor cerebri, a straightened lordosis, and about 20 other things (this would end up a book instead of a post). I'm just scared I'm gonna come out worse than when I went in. Has anyone else felt such fear the closer you got to surgery?

It’s normal to be scared. Try to focus on how losing excess weight will help your physical difficulties. It certainly sounds like you’ve had more than your share. No one can guarantee that you won’t have any complications, but they are relatively uncommon. I definitely don’t think that you will come out worse. I know it sounds stupid, but try to think positive and hopeful thoughts. You have lots of support on this forum and you can do this!

My surgery was long but went well. I'm not in a ton of pain thanks to scheduled pain meds, I only took one oxycodone.

My leak test this morning showed the barium was still in my esophagus more than 10 minutes after I drank it. I got a dose of steroids to get rid of the swelling. I'm not surprised because I had the same thing happened with my sleeve. It looks like I'll be spending another day here

Glad your pain level is okay and that your surgery is over. Hopefully you will be well enough to go home tomorrow. Take care.

  4. I started the second week of pre-op diet yesterday which means only liquids. It’s actually not that bad because I’m full of liquid all the time. My mind tries to tell me that I want something to eat, but I’m truly not stomach hungry. I guess that’s good since the post-op diet is liquids for awhile, too.

  5. Once I finished my pre-op checklist, it was only about a month before surgery date so not bad. I started the process in September, but I was responsible for some delays so I think that it could have been a shorter process. I postponed a couple of appointments due to the high Covid in the fall and then had a death in the family. Which surgery are you thinking of doing? It sounds like it won’t take you long to have a date being already half through your checklist.

  6. I saw Dr. Cronk today for my last pre-op visit. He is super nice, he answered all my questions and explained what to expect. My surgery is the 8th. He has done 500 surgeries using the robotic technique. I’m also excited to hear that the hospital rooms are private ones post surgery. Have you decided to see Dr. Sanborn or Dr. Cronk?

    Im scheduled for March 12th!

Starting my LRD tomorrow (god give me strength!)

Im really excited to see the weight shift! Im excited to think I will be able to get into my old clothes again - the ones ive been saving because "one day ill get back into that"

But im nervous. Nervous about the recovery. Nervous about the pain. Nervous about having time off work. Worried about my family seeing the weight coming off but not really knowing why.

I know at some point im going to have to have the conversation about my reasons for having WLS - but for now, only myself and my partner know. Im happy about that.

I’m on the 8th. I’m getting nervous about the pain and recovery as well. Telling your friends and family is totally your choice. You can just say that you are losing weight for your health using high Protein, low carb. Good luck to you.

Hii Toomany#'s! We are surgery buddies!! My two week diet started today and my surgery is on the 8th as well. My pro-op diet consists of four 8oz Protein Shakes a day, unlimited veggies (there is a list), one dairy a day, one fruit, and 64oz of Water. What does your surgeon have you doing?

I'm excited and nervous, too! I just pray these days fly-by. How are you feeling otherwise?

    Hi LilaNicole20,

It’s nice to have a surgery buddy. I’m feeling fine, in the middle of tiling a floor. I have 3 Protein Shakes plus one meal per day for this week. Lean meat 3-4 oz, 2 cups non starchy vegetables. Next week is 4 Protein shakes per day. Clear Liquids day before surgery. I pray the days fly by as well.

  9. Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas has an all inclusive self pay program. They include your hotel, all pre-op testing, and surgery in their own surgery center. You can check out their website for more info. My surgery with them went very well. I didn’t lose much weight, but that was totally due to me. Others who had surgery at the same time did great and lost lots of weight.

I have accumulated some Unjury that I would like to donate to someone in my area. I have 24 cans of strawberry and 19 cans of chocolate. These sell for about $25 a can, so about $1,000 worth. I got them for my son, but he only likes the vanilla flavor. I'd like them to go to a good home. Would anybody want it? I am in Winston-Salem, NC and happen to be planning to drive through Raleigh and to Eastern NC this weekend if anyone wants to met me along the path. Let me know.

What a nice offer. I live in western NC, wish that you lived in this direction.

    Hi Ashley,

I'm one day before you in Vegas. My preop diet is 2 weeks though. Are you flying? I am nervous about blood clots and the flight home

I did the flying after surgery. Walk around between flights if there is a layover. Pump your ankles up and down while sitting down. You can use compression socks if it makes you more comfortable. I flew Delta, I asked for assistance in the airport due to very long distances between terminals. They had someone come to the flight, help me into a wheelchair, and wheel me to the next terminal. My other advice is take very little with you if you are going alone because you have to carry it unless you have help.

  12. When I had my lap band, I went alone to Mexico. My husband told his son and his friend (probably before I got off the first plane) which totally pissed me off. I am having a conversion to bypass next month. I’m telling people the hiatal hernia story as well. I would simply not say anything, but he would probably tell again. I told him if he does it to me again that he will be left without me and can live with his son and friend. I’m a private person and feel like it’s really not anyone else’s business. It’s truly difficult for me to trust him to be silent after the first time.

Mindful Moment: I'm feeling all kinds of emotions today. It's this weird mix of fear, anxiety, elation, resolve, focus, and super-charged anticipation of my future self all at once. If you may be feeling this way too, know you're not alone.

My surgery date is March 7th, just 21 days away. I've been on an 8-month journey filled with highs and lows like so many of you. As I reflect on my feelings today, I want to honor them wholeheartedly as each one of them is valid. Most of all, I felt it was important to share my feelings with others who may be feeling similarly.

While each of our journeys is that of our own, we're not alone. We all need to be reminded of that in our moments of mixed emotions.

    ~Meg

Very well thought out and written. My surgery is two days after yours. Best wishes to you.

  14. I don’t have advice because my conversion is the 8th, but I wanted to reply so I could get notifications on your post. I’m wondering if it is more the malabsorption part that works after the conversion since we already have smaller than normal stomachs. I’m going to write it down to ask my surgeon. Good luck.

Interesting. I didnt know they inflated your stomach too... I just thought they pumped air into the stomach cavity. I had a colonoscopy last year and when i woke up those pains from the air they pump in your colon was some of the worst pains i ever felt.

Yes, it goes into your abdominal cavity and not your actual stomach. I didn’t mean to be unclear.
