SKYEROSE reacted to Betty1971 in Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Here are just a couple of the silly things that have made me smile the last couple weeks:
1. I can buy cute underwear that are not made out of white flour sack material.
2. I can put on my socks in the morning with out making strange sounds and grunting.
3. When getting dressed to go somewhere the first thing out of my mouth is NOT "does this make me look fat!"

SKYEROSE reacted to idk4w in Can you post what your food intake looks like over the course of the day? Dec, Jan, Feb surgeries
I think I discovered part of my problem, based on what I read from other postes and what others go through at my stage.
food DOESN'T BOTHER ME.
How can this be??? I guess everyone is different? I don't get pain, I don't feel sick, I don't get nauseous, so I can just eat. It might sound like a dream, but really, it's not. Because if I can eat, I can, well-- eat. and eat whatever I want. And obviously I don't want THAT! It means my control has to come COMPLETELY from my mind, because my body won't stop me.
Interestingly, it does protest when I drink a lot, and I do wish it was the reverse. I want to drink! I wish my body protested from food, not liquid. I have a friend who told me before my surgery, "You'll see, you won't even be able to LOOK at the things you liked before. You'll have no inclination to eat them, or graze on things." I was looking forward to that, but it's not the case with me. If I allowed myself to, I could graze on anything all day.
These responses were very helpful in giving me a framework, which I am beginning TODAY. (in case you're wondering, my team doesn't really work with this. The nutritionist didn't sit with me and map out a meal plan or anything. Basically she said, you're body will tell you what you can and can't eat. So seeing what others have been eating through the day is helping me form my own meal plan, and hopefully the numbers will start coming down. Because FYI... I haven't been losing weight! I lost 20 lbs between my pre op and the week after, and I've been the same since then, one month out. Not sure how that can be, but the scale don't lie.
So thanks for the responses, hopefully this will help me jumpstart.

Started pre-op diet at 276lbs. Surgery was cancelled for another 2 months but I kept calorie counting that whole time so in total I lost 25lbs pre-op in the end.
Surgery weight 251
Date of sleeve 17 November 2021
Current weight 220
So that's 31lbs off in 11.5 weeks since surgery. 8lbs in the week of surgery then a long post-op stall that lasted over 3 weeks.
I have really found a groove with my eating and am losing a steady 2lbs a week at the minute. I do drink some alcohol every weekend which I know is completely empty calories, but it's something I have chosen to do and factor in. If I stall again or once my rate of loss slows I'll probably stop it again!
Hope that helps. I loved reading other people's stats pre-op and I still do really. 😍 Keep asking questions - it's a big decision, a lifelong commitment to being different, and there is such a lot of experience in this group you're absolutely right to use it.

SKYEROSE reacted to huskymama in Low BMI pre op question
Honestly if you only have 30 pounds to loose do it without surgery. Go vegan for a month or try something but I wouldn’t have surgery. I went raw vegan and lost 20 pounds easy and felt great and full. I had to go off because life happened but I didn’t regain it. I am happy with the progress I have had the past 4 weeks since VSG but I honestly wish I had given myself more time being vegan and waited on the VSG. I was loosing more and faster, felt better, and had energy like I haven’t had since a kid. So no don’t do it for a small amount of weight. It isn’t the easy road or just to do for vanity. It’s rough - like reading, watching etc what others say about it still doesn’t prepare you for how rough it is. And you will have 6 scars from it. If your minds made up then go for it! And I dropped to 31 BMI day of surgery it didn’t matter it mattered what I started with. I wish I had asked more questions like you are - I would not have done the surgery. But I did and I’m happy with the results. I hope you will be too! Good luck with whatever you decide!

SKYEROSE reacted to SleeverSk in Anyone cheated on pre op diet prior to their surgery?
Of course we did, it part of the reason we were in the position we are in. No self control . Me my last meal was burger 🍔 king along with a few other sneaky treats but in saying that I was at the lower end of the scale my surgeon didn't require me to liquid diet but My dietitian insisted

Okay. My surgery was yesterday. Going home soon. I have incision site pain on my right- where the two stitches in my muscle are. Took forever to be able to urinate on my own- started to scare me even but now everything is well in that area. Kinda questioning wtf did I just do to my self tho.

Wondering how you are doing following surgery? I'm nervous of the pain and dehydration as well. I am only on day 4 of my 8 day pre op diet and I am extremely nauseous from the Protein Shakes. I just keep telling myself that I am going to feel so much better once I lose this 100 lbs that is putting so much pressure on my body and mind. I have been through hard things before. This is going to be a big commitment, but I am doing this for myself.

Hi Dcsjoc, I myself just had the sleeve surgery on 1/13/22, and I can tell you the days just prior, I was feeling second thoughts. Mine I think was a mixture of two things. One was I have already been doing great losing weight on the pre-surgery diet so maybe I don't need to do it, and the second was the feeling of loss, anger, and frustration over all the things that I will no longer be able to eat and also the amounts. I realized that both (in my case) are due to fear and control. Fear of losing comfort and wanting to control everything. I have to keep reminding myself that I did not in fact have control and to keep out of fear I have to stay in the moment and not let my head think about results and the future. I have to stay in the process and simply take it step by step. Now that I am on the post-surgery diet it's funny how much I miss the Protein Shakes. The message boards/forums here on this site have helped me so much. I hope the same for you.

SKYEROSE reacted to ClareLynn in I feel like I have no familial support for my surgery.
This is why I didn’t tell my family and said I was getting a hernia repaired. I didn’t want to argue or talk about any of it. I’ll let them figure it out later when I’m feeling and looking better.

Give yourself LOTS of grace. This process is not easy, and there will be bumps along the way. Prepare yourself mentally as best you can.
Therapy helps immensely. If you're not seeing someone, look into it. If that's not an option, read up on disordered eating, eating addiction, and transfer addiction. Arm yourself with information and resources.
Start making a list of questions for your surgeon and ask them BEOFRE your surgery.
Get a support system in place. Spouse/partner, family, here, BariNation, wherever. Just be sure you have a place to go with the hard questions and the big feelings because they WILL come.
Most of all, be so dang proud of yourself for taking this step. We will be here cheering you on!
