Happened to me after VBG I 2004. 12-03-2021 I had a revision to RNY do to complications with Gerd hernias and me closed esophagus. They did not repair hernias. I've lost 40lbs and can barely feel either hernia anymore and can eat without issues!

A therapist is not a nutritionist. I would go with what my PA and nutritionist think over what a therapist tells me to do with regard to Protein and food intake.
Personally, if they are also in the same practice I would let the nutritionist and PA know that the therapist is dispensing other advice, it is confusing to patients, and they need to sort it out within the practice.

I went into a stall and really thought it wasn’t going to work for me. I totally understand how you feel. Mine started around day 10-11 and I saw my Nutritionist last week. She cleared me to start eating soft foods which I did the past 2 days and today I finally started loosing again! So have patience- which is easier said then done I know. I started at 227 and today I am 197.7. VSG 12/22/2021. Be patient with yourself, follow your program, see your Nutritionist if you can mine helped me not just food wise but mentally and emotionally to know I was on the right track. Also I am walking 3 miles a day so walk as much as you can it didn’t help me in the stall but it lifts my spirits and better than sitting on the couch! Also I can’t go outside due to weather so this is all in the house and not all at once

Macros are between 60-80 grams Protein, 40-50 grams fat and less than 10 grams carbs. More fat if I can fit it in without eating too much. I don’t know if I was in a stall and it ended the same time I started introducing more fat or if it was the fat that jump started my weight loss. But I certainly didn’t go through all this to eat less than 500 calories a day and not lose weight. Much more satisfied on the Keto.

So, now am 3 months out with sleeve to roux n y revision and may have learned a couple things. Was originally on super low calorie low carb diet<500 calories a day. Slow weight loss, and even got to the point where I was gaining. Super frustrating. Switched my diet up to Keto, and started dropping the pounds. I’ve lost 32 pounds now and am at about 900 calories per day. Tip on keto, is that you have to have fat or it won’t work. For supplements, I take extract of artichoke for liver health and chromium to moderate insulin levels, in addition to all the Vitamin supplements that I’m sure everyone else takes.

Don’t fret! It’s normal . I had my surgery on 12/17 and lost 13.5 lbs the first week. I stalled at week 2,3,&4. In week 5 now and the scale is finally moving again.. thank the lord. the 3 week stall can be 3 weeks or less. It doesn’t necessarily start in the 3rd week after surgery, but it’s normal. Just stop weighing yourself b/c if your like me it will make you think you are the problem. It’s common and you will be on your way soon again.

I had the lapband in 2009 and due to complications had to get it removed and got the bypass all fairly quickly and I had the revision on 12/15. I struggled with post op diet until this week when I started to eat some puréed foods but I am just not losing weight. Emotionally really frustrating that I went through all this and not seeing results.

Not to be cliche, but if you think you'll succeed or fail - you're right. You need to have the right mindset going into this.
I did very well with my sleeve that I got in 2016, until I started slipping and put it all back on. Five years later I got the revision to bypass 6 weeks ago and it's going very well again, except now I know what to watch out for and how to (hopefully) avoid the pitfalls of last time.
Believe that it will work, and do everything you can to help it work, and it will work.

    Hi, I am new here.
I think I want to go with the gastric bypass VS the sleeve.

The more I read about the gastric bypass and here of malnutrition because of lack of absorption makes me think it may not be the best option.

What are your pros and cons? Do you regret the gastric bypass? What did you wish you knew before you chose the gastric bypass?

    Thank you you in advance!

MelanatedQueen reacted to Tufflaw in Proper weighing of Halo Top?
Thanks everyone for the great advice. I also reached out to Halo Top and got a less than helpful response just telling me the difference between ounces and Fluid ounces. The most useful responses advised to check the grams per serving on the container which I didn't even think of - the serving size on the one I've been eating (Cookies and Cream, yum) says it's 3 servings of 2/3 cup each and then in parentheses 88 grams which is the key. One ounce in weight is equal to 28.3495 grams, so 2/3 of cup in weight is equal to 5.33 ounces which on the scale would be 151.103 grams. So by using the scale and measuring straight ounces (4 ounces) I'm getting 113.398 grams which is actually greater than one serving. To get one serving I should be measuring out 3.104 ounces which equals 88 grams in weight. Or at the very least I should be tracking it properly if I continue to do a 4 oz serving.

Weight by grams is likely to be more accurate. I try and weigh everything in grams when I can for exactly that reason.

MelanatedQueen reacted to Tufflaw in Band to Bypass Surgery coming up...SCARED
I didn't have band to bypass, I had sleeve to bypass, but I can still suggest what I think is the greatest tool for me - tracking RELIGIOUSLY. Every thing that goes in your mouth gets weighed and tracked. Buy yourself a little digital scale, you don't need anything fancy, can get a decent one for ten bucks on Amazon. Make sure it does both grams and ounces, and USE it every day for every meal, and put it in your tracker. I use MyFitnessPal (free version), you can use whatever you feel comfortable with. But weigh and track. NEVER eyeball a meal. You will always assume it is less than it actually is.
I don't eat more than 4 oz or so at a time, and you would be surprised how small 4 oz of some foods can appear. The scale keeps you from cheating with the portions (even accidentally) and the tracker keeps you honest about how many calories you are consuming, as well as the nutritional values.
An extra benefit of the tracker is if you start to have problems or backslide, you can go back to see what you did that worked and recreate those meals. I recently went back and looked at my entries in 2016 and 2017 to see what I was eating the first months I was sleeved because I was doing so well, and I started eating those same things again now and am seeing similar success.

I am revising my sleeve to a DS on Feb 7th. I feel like I am going into this surgery with my eyes more open than before. that is good and bad. I know I can and will lose weight. but what if I can't keep it off? last time I maintained for years until pregnancies and miscarriages messed me up. I'm not going to have any more pregnancies, but I'm still scared.

I hadn't thought of that. I follow a girl on YouTube that lost 70 lbs doing Weight Watchers because I'm doing it now. She didn't have WLS though. I'm not on FB either. Or Instagram, but I'm thinking about joining.

@MelanatedQueen It's totally the three-week stall. Your body is rebalancing its Fluid levels and stuff.
While there's some variation (hello, hormones...), generally the rule is CICO (calories in calories out). If you're eating 500 cal a day, there is no way you're not going to lose weight. Even if you're very petite, your body requires a certain number of calories just to exist, and 500 is below that number.
If you get through another three weeks without moving, talk to your surgeon, but nearly everyone breaks that stall in a week or two.

I see refried Beans mentioned a lot when people are discussing the pureed stage. My crass questions is, don't we have bad enough gas..?

I mean if you guys say it's not so bad I'll grab some for post op, but ... you know what I mean.

Same here. I’m 3 1/2 weeks post op and the scale has not moved in 4 days. I’ve started to walk to see if I can get more exercise in to get it to move. Also remember you may not be losing weight on the scale but you maybe losing inches so I would suggest measuring yourself too. Hope this helps and best wishes to you!

Yes the 3 week, 3 month stall curse lol. It’s totally normal. I am 1.5 months post op and I am down to 225 from 256lbs surgery and I had a 3 week stall that lasted about two weeks. Best thing to do is put a way the scale for one to two weeks. :) your body is just in panic mode but if you are doing what you are supposed to do you will lose the weight whether you look at your scale or not ❤️

    What they said
Stick to the post surgery plan. Make SURE you are getting plenty of Water and Protein. Water and protein are essential to losing fat rather than lean muscle. During the first two months post surgery, I found it best to weigh just once a week. I still had bloating and the healing process encourages Fluid retention. That will cause stalls too. You're doing fine. All the best!

I had my Gastric Bypass surgery on October 6th. I was experiencing the three-week stall myself - just couldn't lose an ounce. Stepped on the scale this a.m. and I am down 2 lbs 4 oz! I knew about the stall and I just kept with the plan. It's now broken and I'm losing weight again!
If I can encourage you in any way, I hope you just stick with the plan. Leave the scale alone for a week or two. You will be happy when you see that you've broken the stall! 😀

Others said it already but yes the three week stall is a thing. Just keep doing what you are doing. Stay off the scale for a while if that helps and trust the process. The loss will pick back up shortly.
