April 2006 Bandits November Challenge
Hello All, Hope all you sickies are better! My son had his surgery on Tuesday morning, had a very rough time of it for a couple of days..............they had to go in to surgery again because he was bleeding so much...........they found that it was because of all the blood thinnners he is on and they gave him some major clotting factors that did the trick..................He's been in a lot of pain the past few days, but that is getting better, they removed all his drains and today he got to leave ICU and go to a intermediary ICU.............thank God, he's on the mend! Nothing in the world like having your child (even at 43) go thru something like this............this is his 2nd time - had a similar surgery 18 years ago.................hopefully he will not have to repeat this again. So, minus a couple of days this month............I'm hoping to get started back to exercise tomorrow morning................have a bunch of grandkids sleeping over tonight (my son's 3 children) that will stay with Poppops while Grammy goes to the gym in the morning! I've been very tight the past few days (wonder why) and have had to only do yogurt and stuff like that...............hopefully all will settle down and I'll get back to NORMAL!

Thanks to you all for the good thoughts and prayers for my son's upcoming surgery on Tues. Isn't it amazing how we all connect with each other just having this "one little thingy" in common. We're all over the country, different ages, from all aspects of life but of "one heart and soul".............all mother's and wife's and human kindred spirits. That is what it is all about!

April 2006 Bandits October Challenge
Our son did well with the heart cath (angiogram) on Friday......discovered tho that the aneurism is larger than they thought and that they would have to go with the artificial valve again - so he will have to stay on cumadin..........not such a great drug, but in this case a necessary evil! His surgery is now scheduled for Tuesday morning......not such a good trick or treat. Well, the October challenge is almost over............I'm proud of myself and all of you............I did 20 as of today and hoping to get a my marathon morning in on Monday - that will give me a total of 21!!! Had a fill on Wednesday and think I'm pretty "tight"......been staggering around the same weight now for several weeks, but the past day or two have come down a couple of pounds. Think I have been having a little too many non-fat, sugar free latte's since the weather became cold........maybe a bit too many liquid calories - so going to cut that out. Looking forward to the November challenge..........I need to do the water part really bad.........water is hard for me! :clap2: Am I "buff" or what? I did the challenge.......17 days, 1 new exercise............and I'm still going! What a Grammy! Have a busy week coming up - brother having some medical tests and I'm helping him out, going for a fill on Wed (a 2 hour drive back and forth) - my baby son (40) coming into Portland to be with our other son who is having surgery.....so, don't know if I'll get much in the way of "gym" exercise - but I'll try to get in walking. Julie, I like the adding the water for our November Challenge...........my weak link! April 2006 Bandits October Challenge
Hi all............Everyone is doing so great.............I guess we're all pretty much alike tho about the water..........it was easier in the summer......good idea about adding it next month! I'm beat.................yesterday I did my marathon morning at the gym - 2 1/2 hours of classes and I went today for my regular Sat morning NIA class........not bad for this "young" grammy! I only need 1 more day to meet this months challenge!!!! Going this week for a fill on Wed. and to see my doctor for my 6 month (a little longer) check-up. I've been playing with the same couple of pounds for a few weeks now...........between 183 - 186........time for a fill! Kat..........sounds like life is becoming "normal" (yipee) again! Hope that hubby of yours continues to mend. Julie...........Kat had a great idea there about a group TT! Don't know if I'd do it tho, I'm going to be 67 next month..........might be a bit too late for me to have any more "elective surgery".............I'm still thinking about it tho................but by the time I actually get my tushy down to the right size, I'll probably be closer to 68...........oh, well, guess I'll have to live with the saggy arms, tummy, thighs and tush............it all sure looks a lot better tho since my 50lb loss and nobody but my hubby of 45 years gets to see all the sag.................and he loves the package no matter what (he's a great guy - but it's hard to believe I'm now sleeping with a 70 year old!!!!). Trying to keep calm and cool about our son's upcoming surgery, hard to do.....................the exercise helps pass the time, helps me sleep, makes me feel good about myself............and the support from all of you is so helpful. Hi Susan and rest of you exercise buff friends! Susan you asked about NIA....... it's the greatest class invented. It's got me lovin exercise.......and since I'm a 67 year old (on Nov 12th) grammy who has always hated exercise - it's worth telling you all about. go to the link below and they can explain it much better than I can........it's a wonderful dance, tai-chi and more class that is so much fun and gives you the greatest work-out.......look for it in your area and if it's around - give it a try, you'll love it. I am very luck to have it at the gym I belong to in the Portland, OR area.........let me know if any of you try it! http://www.nia-nia.com/

Kat, I am so happy for you and your family. May your husband continue to mend and grow strong. After the initial shock of learning about our son, we are trying to be cool, calm and collected. My daughter-in-law is so positive and says the doctors are all very positive - so we are all thinking good thoughts about our son's upcoming surgery. Had some shocking news from my 43 year old (oldest) son yesterday. He has to have heart surgery on the 26th. He had a heart valve replacement when he was 25 years old (almost 20 years ago) and they just found out that the valve is leaking and he also has an aneurism of the thoracic aorta that has to be repaired. He's a husband to a wonderful lady and daddy to 3 great kids and with the help of a wonderful team of doctors and God's help will do well and be there for them and us for many years to come. Would appreciate prayers and good wishes. My exercise keeps me busy, helps me sleep and I plan to continue with my daily (almost) routine! I didn't weigh - only do that on Friday's.............somewhere between 45 - 50 lbs and I'm so happy! I'm having a local band group meeting here at my house today - potluck of healthy band foods and supportive talk.............a great supportive group that I've been with since a month before my surgery. Woops - weighed in today and it was no good.......Last week I lost 4 lbs and this week they were back! I think I might need another fill........have been doing too many "snacks" inbetween meals......good Snacks (?), but obviously too many calories overall..............boy is it easy to forget! The exercise tho is good!.........so, this week "nothing inbetween meals" or "in the evening" except no calorie beverages!............if that doesn't work, I'm on my way for another fill.................I am tight though, have to chew, chew, chew!
