INCREDIBLE Inspiration!
That is amazing! I can't even imagine running at this point. I used to run in high school and I loved it, but that was many moons ago! My husband runs and really wants me to run with him, maybe I will be able to run. A lot will change in this next year.

Oohh SoOO NERVOUS!!!
I think everyone gets the nerves - if we didn't there would be something wrong with us! Hang tight it will be over really quickly and you will be an official bandster! Make sure you stay ahead of the pain, get up and get moving and don't forget to sip all day! I got a little behind on liquids today and I could feel it right away, you really do have to be drinking constantly. I found that the SF Popsicles really help. I also made some jell-o with a Protein bullet added. It is not too bad! Good luck and have a safe surgery!

Taking medication with a lap band
I had the same concerns. I spoke with my primary physician and talked to the surgeons assistant to get some answers. They were very helpful! Some of the pills you can cut into smaller pieces and some of them I have to crush and put in applesauce - I am not sure how that will taste, but I can still take them. They both said as I mover further along post-op I would most likely be able to go back to taking the time release meds and not have to worry. Definitely pose the question for your doc and the pharmacist, they will be able to tell what you need to do! I had to change one of my meds to a different one for a month while my stomach heals. We will see how that goes. A pill cutter is really helpful. I know the pain meds and anti-naseau (sp) they put me on are liquids - not great tasting but easy to get down. Good Luck with your surgery!

Frustrated
Hoping that your paperwork gets filled out! How frustrating. Hang in there it will all fall into place. Maybe you should stop by the office (if possible) to get the paperwork??? An upset customer usually gets things moving - of course it is the doctors office, so who knows! Your in my thoughts!

Becoming Extremely Nervous!!
I exercised right up to my surgery date. No problem! Don't be nervous. I have found each time I have surgery (5) the team has been really great. The anathesiologist (sp) is usually really nice and they help calm you down as you are getting ready - they usually give you a relaxing 'cocktail' before they roll you into surgery, so you are calm and relaxed before the procedure starts and then you wake up when it is all over! You will be fine, just follow your docs orders!

Hello All!
Welcome to the August All Stars! I felt the same way, nervous, but it is well worth the effort. The surgery was not as scary as I thought it would be and I was in and out of the hospital on the same day!

Hi! New here and freaked out!
Lori~ Welcome to the board! Don't worry you will catch on pretty quickly. I felt the same way. I have been clicking around the site and I learn something new everyday! So don't be afraid to check things out and see what they do! How far are you in the process of scheduling your surgery?

I'm Official I Have a Band!
Thanks for all of the well wishes! I appreciate all of the support. I actually had my husbands computer while I was sitting and waiting to go home. I had to stay longer in recovery, so I was bored and got to play on the computer. We have dialup at home , so the wireless is always a treat! Best wishes to all that were banded today! Good luck and safe surgery to everyone that goes in tomorrow! The August All Stars are on their way!

Post Surgery
I am all done and banded! :frown: I am so glad to be done and on my way to a healthy me! The surgery went well. I was very nervous right before heading into surgery, because of my last near death experience. It was smooth sailing and I feel good. I have six incisions with little bandages on them. I have an extended stay because of the sleep apnea - not sure what that has to do with it, but oh well. It is giving me time to use the wireless internet - what a treat, we have dial up at home! I have been up walking and using the bathroom without any trouble. I can't believe I feel this great:thumbup: But I am still being careful I know all of that can change in a minute. I am now sipping diluted cranberry juice and it is going down well. Should be out of the hospital by 4:00. Ross has been supportive, he is sitting and reading National Geographic while I use his computer - what a great guy:wub:

I'm Official I Have a Band!
Woo Hoo! Just sitting in recovery waiting to go home. I have my band and I feel great - nothing to stress about. I just got up and about and walked the halls and felt great. My tummy is a bit sore - I have six incisions with little bandages on them. I took some before pics last night - I told my daughter one last time we have to get some pictures, I usually shy away from having my picture taken, but we did it. I will try to get them posted. The surgery was pretty quick the only thing that was bothersome was how dry my mouth was and I had to wait to get my sips of Water. The pain killers are fogging my brain, so disregard the random babbling. Good luck and don't stress to the rest of the August All-Stars! We are off on a great journey!

Getting Annoyed
Hang in there. I am self-pay too, it was a much more streamlined process from what the insurance co people are going through. Can you see if they will schedule an appt without the labs, just to get you on the books since it took so long last time? Have you seen the nutritionist yet? I got in to see my nutritionist right away, so I was able to start working on losing weight and proper eating. It seems like they would get you in right away if they are planning on an Aug 18 date for surgery? I feel for you. I was under the school starting gun too. Have to get things done on breaks so you can get back to work - it will happen for you! Hang tight and make a little noise, sometimes that is the only way to get anyone to pay attention. Good luck, keep us posted on your progress!

8 Hours to Go!
I am soooo excited:thumbup: I will go in for surgery in 8 hours. I can't believe how quickly this has happened. I had to do a liquid diet the day before surgery (yeah, I know, some of you had 1 or 2 weeks) so I feel lucky. It was not too bad. I made it through the day without too many thoughts of food, of course I was preoccupied with tomorrow! Had to do a bowel cleanse, how lovely. However, nothing seems to be moving at this point - with my luck it will kick in about 2 a.m. and I won't get any sleep. I applied my anti-nausea patch thingy behind my ear. Hopefully that will help with the woozies after surgery. Have to be at the hospital by 6 a.m. nice and early and should be back for surgery at 7:30. I am hoping everything is running on time. It would be nice to be home by 1ish, but I am not sure how long they will keep me after the surgery. :confused2: I know they want you up and walking around and able to keep fluids down. Well, I am off, hopefully I will get some sleep tonight and be ready to start this new portion of my life tomorrow morning - no looking back!

Sore and sorry for myself but it's done!
Glad to hear everybody is doing so well. It makes tomorrow morning seem a bit less stressful! Not looking forward to the gas pain! I will definitely get up and get moving. Thanks for the updates, eases the nerves of those of us following behind you!

Anyone else freaking out??
It is nice to see that others are feeling the same way. I was thinking I was alone and freaking out. I just keep thinking about all the great things that will come with this lifestyle change! In the morning I will find out what time I am scheduled for surgery on the 5th. Kind of hope it is bright and early so I can cross over to bandland and come home and sleep in my own bed!

Sore and sorry for myself but it's done!
Way to Lellow! Leading the way for the rest of the August All-Stars. Glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better. After reading all the posts about gas I did go out and by some Gas-X. I hope that it will help. I will also dig out my peppermint tea - thanks for the suggestion. I usually drink it during the winter, so I will have to scrounge around to find it. Good job on the weight loss - remember post-op is for healing! I know I will be jumping on the scales too!

Getting banded the day after tomorrow!
I have had a sore throat the past two days. I think it is allergies, I have not felt sick, but wake up with a sore throat. I do not want to have the surgery postponed - that would suck! I haven't been running a fever, so I am hoping the surgery is on. I also threw my back out. How silly is that, all the gardening put me in a really bad place. I am feeling better but I can't take the anti-inflammatory to help fix the pain. I have been taking a muscle relaxer and vicodin the first day - haven't used it today. I have to check in with the doc in the morning to make sure I will be good to go! Good Luck Ellen!

Officially banded and feeling great!!!
Moe~ Way to go! I can't believe how quickly you are up and around. I hope my surgery goes that well!

Tomorrow's the Day! 8/4/08
Good Luck Misty! I know how you are feeling with this major life change. Just think of how great you will be looking this time next year!

Has anyone had to choose a band??
Angela~ I also had the opportunity to choose a band. I went with the Realize band. I like the online support. I researched both and that was the decision that I made. The office I go to uses both bands more people seem to be going with the Realize band.
