  1. Oh yes, at age 22, you would think that way. It is a little different when you are younger. At 22, everything was flirting and about sex. At 40, very little is about either.

Yea sure, because I'm 22 its all about sex and i have no clue what im talking about. I did not imply that it was about sex. I however am saying that it is a problem if her husband is texting a young woman at their childs daycare. One would consider the motive for doing so. Why? She should be concerned. I am not saying cheating is the case in her situation but she should consider it be an option.

I guess its all about what you think cheating is... clearly Mr. Steve believes it to be a physical thing (flirting & sex.) I believe different, its both a physical and an emotional thing, an emotional attachment is much worse in my opinion because thats harder to break. Though i am 22 it doesnt make me color blind, i know a red flag when i see one. Like i said, i certainly hope this is not the case and everything gets worked out.

  2. Women... Men are not dumb, we know when a woman is coming on to us, we look for those cues so we can know to move in. You guys actually give us that excuse that men are stupid and we don't know, and what better way to save ourselves by just playing in to it (I have done this, though i wasn't in a committed relationship.) I have always heard "if you have to question whether your significant other is cheating on you, chances are that they probably are." Does this mean approach the situation like you are certain? No, but don't ignore it neither.

BTW, there is no such thing as harmless flirting, it opens up streams and avenues for other things to take place which can be harmful, this also applies to texting. I would think that whatever he has to ask or say could be said in person, out of secracy with no shame or guilt. My father always texted other woman and tried to hide it, i had my suspicions and they were right. Unfortunately, my mother is either stupid or weak because she denies that cheating is the case. I would think the latter because its not rocket science, she can go through his phone as i have and check for herself and find that she was living a lie all the while. Though one may think this is a matter of invasion of privacy on the spouses behalf, i can assure you its not. All that goes out the window when you are married and whats now his is now yours and vice versa.

By all means, i am not saying go make accusations but i do suggest you consider your past with him and present habits and signs/ cues. Be rationale! I hope everything turns out well.

  3. So im getting mixed information and i do not know which to believe. It seems as if low calorie intake is what causes weight loss, and this isn't reduced calorie intake but like i said LOW calorie consumption. However, i have also been told that a low calorie diet can kill ones metabolism especially for us that need or have had this surgery. Both of these ideas contradict each other and im officially confused. Many of us banders can't consume any more than 700-1000 calories which is what causes them to loose weight (purpose of lap band). So heres the question> Can we have a slow metabolism and still lose at a rapid rate like i see most do who eat no more than 1000 calories? or better yet> Does the lap band decrease our metabolism and still cause us to lose fat? hope this makes sense.

  4. The first month is supposed to be the best month where most lose the most weight...so i have been told. If this is so why is that i have only lost 1 or 2 lbs at 1.5 weeks post op. and only 15 pre-op? I guess i am used to seeing most men at 30 lbs weight loss by the second week post op. I understand that everyone is different but could it be that my calorie intake is about 850 cal./day, and some days lower? I try to eat as much as i can but my surgeon gave me a very very small fill at the time of surgery and I cannnot intake that many healthy mushy foods, it really depends on the day. If calories are the reason how can i intake more?

  5. As you guys do or don't know my surgery date was feb. 4th, this past wednesday. Everything went better than i expected. The pain is bearable but its still pain. Still very sore, they kept me over night because of my sleep apnea, i have very mild sleep apnea but they just wanted to be sure that everything goes well. I was so nervous before i went in, my blood pressure was high as a kite but after wards it dropped to 114/51. The nurse seemed very concerned and said that it would be best to leave after my the bottom number reached at least 60. So i just got home about 30 minutes ago. The gas pain is out this world, the gas x strips dont seem to be doing much, but then again I'm not sure if its the gas alone or if its the soreness thats causing the pain. Dr. Ponce slightly filled my band, not sure why he did, it's very rare that it happens, but i can still eat and drink what i am supposed to. The staff were extremely nice, i couldn't have asked for better people, they reminded me what a better life i will have and what a good year this would be for me. The nurses and the anesthigologist (sp?) especially were the most attentitive and caring. I barely saw Dr. Ponce, he must have been extremely busy but i really wanted to talk to him and know personally how everything went (liver size, how much he put in band, hernia, how my insides looked and etc.) He however did talk to my parents in the waiting room and told them simply how it went. I arrived at 6am and thats when they took me in the room to get changed. Soon after the anes. Dr. talked to me which kind of made me feel a little more comfortable, then he pushed my bed to the operating room where i was greeted by some of the nurses who were extremely kind, complementing me and how handsome i was...and the hair, its not as good as everyone thinks it is, lol. Then....... I remember nothing else after scooting on to the operating table. I came to about 1 1/2 hrs. later in the recovery room, and there is where i waited till they got me a room. It was alllll good just in a little pain. Eeekk!!! alot of pressure is what it feels like, especially when i drink or eat the broth or Jello. But all in all it was a life changing experience and everythingg went WELL. Thank God! Thanx for your support everyone, I appreciate it.

  6. It bothers me how some people just act so self righteous, like they are this extremely credible and reputable source, or perhaps the genius who invented the procedure, and you are the most ignorant person on earth. Kindness/ support is clearly distinguishable from cruelty/ bashing, lets remember that people (those who fail to show support on the boards.)

Ivernous, the best thing you can do now is try your hardest to follow the guidlines the doctor provided for the duration of the pre-op diet. It was extremely hard for me and i admit, i cheated a few times. Does it make me any less deserving of something that could possibly change my life? NO!

Everything will work out fine, Let us know how it goes. God Bless!!

  7. I agree, stick to the preop diet. AND why won't you be able to have sushi again? If you mean those rolls with rice in them (not a sushi fan!) you may very well be able to eat them. How much restriction you have/need will be up to you. Right now I have 3 fills, 4.5 ccs in a 14 cc band, and I can eat rice fine. It isn't a "good" choice necessarily, but if I LOVED Sushi I could still have it occasionally. So don't assume you're giving up all the foods you love. How you look at food, how you eat, will change. What quantities you eat will change. But the odds are you will still be able to eat just about anything if you want to. You'll have more control over that part of it than you realize.

I love it all actually, and im worried that i wont be able to enjoy the sushi like i want to post-op like i would pre-op. I had no heads up, my date was set up approx. 2 weeks from me being approved. I love that it didnt take long but it bothers me that i was not able to enjoy a "last meal" like most. Nonetheless, i am ready, i am excited and i am detemrined...but if i were to have one last wish... lol.

    thanx everyone for your help.

  8. I'm going into day 4 in my 12 day pre-op liquid diet and suprisingly with sushi being my all time favorite food i havent had it in a while and i know i am going to miss it once banded (feb. 4th). So i was wondering will it be ok to enjoy a lunch hr of sushi to immediately start back my Liquid Protein diet the next day? i can work out extremely hard if its what it takes to burn it off, though sushi is not usually high in calories. I mean it's just one day, or one hr. rather. What do you guys think? i havent really cheated. but i guess i have considering i had a handful of trial mix both yesterday and today. I dont want any suprises on the day of surgery?

  9. Let me start off by saying that i have done a large amount of research on Dr. Hadar Spivak and from what i hear i am sold. However, after seeing my PCP and talking about the lap band procedure he referred me to one of his good friends that he says is an awesome surgeon, Dr. Guillermo ponce de leon. I have heard very little about this guy but it doesnt necessarily mean he isnt extremely good at what he does. After telling My physician over and over about Spivak he kinda brushed it off and insisted that i go see Ponce De Leon. I am confused as to what i should do. Should i follow up with Spivak, a well known doctor in the houston area or should i go to who my Dr. recommended (someone he knows and confident in) considering that he might be a little more compliant and do everything in his power to get me approved with the insurance co.

    WHAT TO DO?

  10. OMG!!! i totally feel you. thats the question i have been asking all along. i feel its more of a way to keep you discouraged, to make you want to give up. I dont think they really care about the well being of their customers. Thats just my opinion and my experience. But dont give up if you ever thought about it. Make em' pay!!

  11. UPDATE:

So i went to see the bariatric doctor today and when she became suddenly unavailable (btw what kind of practice is this... suddenly unavailable?) They scheduled me with another doctor, which i requested who just might be my new PCP. He seemed a little bit more concerned about situation than my previous PCP. He actually supported my decision and offered information and even referred me to a good friend of his who happens to be a bariatric surgeon. He also agreed to write a letter of medical neccesity as soon as my blood work comes in. Things happen for a reason and that couldnt have been more clear today. thanx for the encouragement guys.

  12. I can already see what kind of journey this is going to be. On top of the approval proccess itself being stressful and frustrating, I think i got one of those Physicians...you know those ones who refuse to believe that WLS should never be an option unless your on your death bed... Yea those are the ones, they really dont understand. So after seeing him he kind of pawns me off onto this bariatric doctor in the same facility that i have an appointment with today and reassures me that she is going to say the same thing. Uggghhh!!! So i will take in my weight watchers journals and everything else i can dig up and feed her the same life story i already fed my PCP. Lets see how this turns out. The 6 month diet required by bcbstx is looking like a real GO-er. Have any of you ever been in the same situation and have had success? hope seems as if its thousands of miles away.
