    1 year post-sleeve -- no regrets!

Wow that’s amazing! You look great! I’m one year out post sleeve on the 11 october 22 I’ve lost 94lbs and have only lost a pound a month for the last 3 months or so, I want to lose more though so I’m not accepting this is it. I know I won’t be in the normal range ever but to be out of the obese range will be enough for me. I’d like to lose another 30lbs fingers crossed. I’m grateful for my restriction, I do eat bad things occasionally but just a bite of my husbands not the whole thing that way I’m not restricting myself completely. I walk 5 /6 days a week in the evenings, 5/7 miles. I can eat more than the start now but still only a child’s plate size and I don’t eat all of that if that makes sense. I do get frustrated that o don’t see losses that often now but even if I maintain I am grateful.

    Week 5 since op

I’m in my 5th week since my gastric sleeve, I’m the uk we have fluids for one day then puréed for 2 -3 weeks then soft foods. I was told it was my journey. I moved on early to soft foods as soup and purée was going straight through I’m finding it hard still learning a new way of eating. I can’t eat more than 2 -3 small spoon mouthfuls before i feel full and it feels almost stuck. I just wondered if it will get better that I don’t have to wait so long to eat in between mouthfuls I’m waiting 30 seconds, I think the most hardest thing to get used to is this new way of time it takes to eat a little food.

    Week 5 since op

Thank you for replying, I think I just have to be patient with how my stomach heals and learn to what it accepts. so far i have had no issues with Being sick or feeling sick from the wrong foods or eating too fast. I only experience a little nausea when I’ve not eaten anything for a few hours. I’m full after 2-3 small bites but I wait and eat 2 bites again after it’s gone down properly is that ok or am I doing things wrong? I just don’t know as i haven’t been given much advice except to eat small mouthfuls and put spoon down inbetween and eat a snack every 2 hours as I start to feel dizzy when I haven’t had anything for a couple of hours and I’m working now so energy depletes quite fast. I still think it’s healing a little inside.

    Week 5 since op

Thank you for replying, I know I won’t be able to eat like before but I just wondered if it going down will get easier and being able to eat more than 2-3 small mouthfuls before feeling full will ever change. Ive lost 21 pounds but I did not lose a pound in week 3 is that normal for 1 month post surgery?

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I’m nearly 4 weeks on Monday out since the gastric sleeve, I spoke with my Bariatric nurse yesterday she said it’s very common around this time to stall and she explained when you were on a normal diet that you get stalls and don’t lose every week. but it will start coming off again. I haven’t lost anything in over a week but I also have my period and I normally put water weight on while I’m on it and so next week I’m probably going to start losing, fingers crossed, so don’t worry about the stalls, they happen and it’s just your body trying to catch up with the little amounts of food and getting over the stress of the op.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

You are spot on with what you say, I’m 3 weeks post op and it’s been the toughest journey I’ve ever walked and I’ve been up and down throughout these 3 weeks. it’s not easy. I know it will get easier but I’ve been down every other day as apparently with fat loss your estrogen levels rise and that causes feeling down so that sucks. Im still finding it hard to get my fluid intake in and in turn now today have a migraine probably due to dehydration. im eating soft food and cracker crisp bread with a little cheese or chicken with avocado or yeast extract. Ive gone off eggs, that’s a shame. my sense of smell and taste seems so different, I don’t know if anyone else’s has changed? I’ve lost a total of 17lbs since my op and lost 16 with pre op diet. I feel like it’s slow this week like a quarter of a pound but I’ve been told there is a 3 week stall. I’m really fed up with the down days. Ive not gone back to work yet. Took another week off. Im really struggling today. I’m sorry to be so negative but when I read your insert and though you are so right, people need to know complications can arise as issues and to know you will need support.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hi there, Aww I’m so sorry you are going through this. I know after my surgery my blood pressure went up a bit for 2 days and I was told it was the effects of the Anaesthetic but my pulse was too low. we all react differently to it. I really hope you get sorted and the heart rate decreases. you will get better with each day it is a day closer to the new you! stay strong lady! Gas pains are normal and suck but they will get better. I’m 3 weeks post op tomorrow and things have improved for me so much. Mira hard to start but worth it in the end. hang in there.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Yes as body was in shock after surgery so the loss was more but it will level out so I’ve been told and you’ll find the following week you will lose more to make up for it, if you know what I mean.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hi there, I had mine the 11th October, how are you doing? Are you in the us or uk? things are done so differently like the after diets etc

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Yes we are all different, I was given a basic plan but barely any choice and then told I can start soft foods early I’m 3 weeks post op Monday. we only had fluids for 1 day then it’s puréed for up to 4 weeks then soft foods 4-8 weeks then 8 weeks normal foods. I’ve tried flaked salmon, cucumber thin without the skin, ham cut in tiny pieces, I seemed to have gone off eggs which I used to love. crisp bread with reduced fat laughing cow triangles or with marmite or Avocado , I have protein juice as it’s easier to drink than water and helps me get my fluids in. I wish you the best of luck. we are on to our new life now! there isn’t any support here just a 6 week check so before the. You are on your own except if you want to ask a question.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

His surgery twin, im doing ok, each day is different, hormones seem to be all over the place as through fat loss Estrogen surges with fat loss. befire surgery I lost 16lbs and now I’ve lost 16lbs since surgery. I thought it would be faster but grateful all the same as wouldn’t be able to do it without. I had the sleeve done. I had gas pains and shoulder pain and I still suffer with right side stomach when I bend down etc incisions ok though. I find it not to bad getting soft food down. I’ve started a week early with soft foods as soups were going straight through me but I can’t manage more than about 4 tea spoons full. even then it’s a struggle. my main struggle is fluids getting the right amount in so I’ve brought protein juice and it’s definitely helping. how are you doing?

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I’m ok now as not hormonal but I got irritated when I couldn’t do what I would normally do before a period. I don’t regret it now. my surgeon said that our hormones are out of whack when we have surgery because as we burn fat the hormones react differently? I’ve been very emotional some days. anyone that thinks this is an easy walk in the park are very mistaken. you have to work for it. I’ve lost 15lbs in 2 weeks and 3 days and before op I lost 16 pounds on the milk liver shrinking pre op diet so I can’t complain although everyone loses differently. I think we all think sometimes it should be faster but losing this fast has never happened before and for that I’m grateful.I’ve been doing walks again finally I feel so much better other than pain on one side the incision where they take the stomach out. I know every day will get better, change isn’t easy but it will be worth it.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hiya Jenlittle, I had regrets too especially a few days ago when I was hormonal/ due a period and the hunger came back, I’ve also felt like I’m no longer Normal , I think we realise how much food was to us when emotional etc. someone I know who had the sleeve said to me that it was like losing a friend, food was something that cured all there bad days and I get it because if I had a bad day i used to think it’s ok I’ll just eat a bag of crisps with a movie. comfort food. this is a new journey for all of us. we can do it!

Hiya, yay, well done for getting through it, I’m in the uk too. how are you doing so far?

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Yes we are in this together, I had a caesarean with my son too but I found this pain far worse than that. everyone is different though. what hospital did you have yours? It seems every hospital does things differently 1-4 weeks pureed. 4-8 weeks soft foods 8-12 weeks normal foods. but also told it’s our journey and it’s just a guide. We don’t get an appointment post op for 6 weeks so literally have to get on with it. it’s so nice to know someone who’s going through it around the same sort of time as me. I’ve posted the guide they gave me. xx

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hiya, I was the same the first few days to a week was very hard to get sips down and wasn’t drinking enough, I’m still not and I’m 2 and a half weeks post op. my Bariactric nurse suggested soups in between meals to up my fluid intake. we are supposed to have at least 1.8 pints a day, 1 litre, I’ve only managed it once but I’m trying. mist a learning curve. you will get there, it gets easier, my nurse actually told me to add no added sugar squash to make it easier to drink and it has seemed to work. We are told to start soft foods like flaked fish etc after 3 weeks and now until then puréed food. I get down about 1- 1 and a half table spoons worth of food but because I was due a period I struggled the last few days of actually feeling hungry although probably head hunger as when I’m hormonal I normally feel more hungry and eat more so that was a struggle. I’ve not feeling sick but have suffered a lot with the runs and had to take Imodium. im trying to eliminate what food it might be. I was told to stop taking the Zoton as it can cause diarrhoea so got to wait until it’s out of my system. I have recovered quite well as incisions are nearly healed and I’m able to sleep on 1 side now rather than on my back. my stomach inside where they pulled my stomach out is the most painful but believe me day by day it does get better. I was given 9 days to prepare for the gastric sleeve and I’ve found most support online, I really was walking in the dark with it. I have PCOS and metabolic syndrome so needed to have this done. I wish you a healing recovery and any help or questions you need to ask feel free to ask me. we can help each other through this change. vicky x

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hi everyone, I’m in my 3rd week post op and very hormonal due a period and for the first time I’m experiencing real hunger, help! Has anyone else experienced the usual hormonal hunger that you had before op? I’ve lost 14lbs in total but not lost anything for 4 days. I’m on soft foods a week earlier as soups were going straight through me. I don’t know how to control this hunger when I can’t eat.

    As soups go through me

Thank you 😊 Defiantly not constipated but definitely feel hormonal. thank you for all your help.
  21. I’ve started soft foods 2 weeks post op as liquid agoes straight through me, I was allowed purée foods but imm managing to eat sift vegetable mash and mashed salmon a couple of bites. Does this harm me doing it so early on?

    As soups go through me

I’m less than 2 weeks out of my op well 2 weeks tomorrow, the scales have gone up a pound is this normal to gain a pound? Im not sure if I’m hormonal as my periods were all over the place before surgery. as apparently I’m peri-menopausal I know with that I’d put around 3-4lbs on until it was finished . this is disheartening to see. I’m only 14lbs down since the 11th October, I don’t know but I expected to lose weight quicker. I'm literately feeling like I know nothing about this process. 😞

    As soups go through me

Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it. you’ve helped me so much. I was given 9 days to prepare for this op. It was so rushed and I don’t feel I had time to educate myself properly and there isn’t a good support system here, you don’t get to see someone for 6 weeks about it. The blood thinning injections for 2 weeks are causing such an itchy stomach now. And it’s not even around the incisions it’s just where I’ve had to inject my stomach with them. they finish soon though.
