Thank you both. It feels like we may be on the right path with an endoscopy.

Have they tested you for bile reflux? The treatment for this is a bit different and it is possible to have bile reflux after an RNY. Talk to your doctor about this, they will probably want to do some GI imaging or an endoscopy to figure out what is going on. There are meds that will work for this but you have to get the right diagnosis first. Good luck!!

Have you been checked for an ulcer? Usually you can just take the meds for a few weeks and you will start to feel better. It does seem to be slow process though. Hope you figure it out and feel better soon.

Imagine you're in an airplane, and it's heading straight towards a mountain. The mountain has many names; Mt. Diabetes, Mt. Depression, Mt. sleep Apnea, Mt. Early Death, everything you mentioned. Time is running out, and it's getting bigger, and bigger in your windscreen...

In a few weeks, it'll be two years post for me, and hindsight is so enlightening. I tried so many things, over so much time, and for so many reasons that mountain still kept getting closer. When it became unavoidable, I took evasive action, and had the procedure. It was like Top Gun man... the nose rotated up, fired the afterburners, and next thing I know, the mountain is below me, and I'm in clear skies, all those conditions gone, or handled. No one knows how it ends, but it feels damn good to be flying, instead of crashing.

Bringing it back, right now that mountain might be all you see. It's scary, and it's intimidating, but you can absolutely overcome it. Congrats on starting the process again. Wishing you nothing but the best!

Edge13 got a reaction from Jeanniebug in How did you select your goal weight?
My ideal BMI is 190 lbs. I'm at 240 lbs now. We have to realize regular exercise is part of our life now. I've actually gained about 5 lbs from my minimum, and still lost waist sizes in that time. No medical issues at all; dropped diabetes, apnea, etc. Waist under 40, stronger, more flexible, no more back pain, healed my neck pain, doctor is happy.
I guess 190 is always the goal, but if I can stay healthy with no health issues, I'm good.

I have sleep apnea, arthiritis, fatty liver and high cholesterol and am scared as well but I'm also scared of all of these conditions I have and developing more later in life if I don't take control of my obesity. So I have made the decision to go through with the surgery for reals this time and not cancel like twice before.
All I can do now is do everything I can to help this surgery go smoothly. I'm three weeks out and am following a semi liquid diet (even though my doctors office told me it wasn't necessary because I know shrinking my liver and more weight loss before surgery is safer and better)
I take all my supplements and more (with Dr approval) I make sure to get my Protein in to promote faster healing and I've begun therapy/support groups. I'm going to try to take as little pain medication as possible after surgery because too many opiods and surgery dont mix. It seems like all these "celebrity deaths" (Kanye west mother, Lisa marie presleu) after surgery had opiods as a factor. I currently had been taken tylenol codeine #3 (a mild opiod) three times a day for arthiritis and that stopped today. I'm not taking any chances even with this mild one. When I have pain I will use creams or tens therapy or hell even book a massage but I am doing everything In my power to prevent complications.
I've read books and gained a lot of knowledge about the surgery and have asked patients here how they've done it. That's all we can do and then leave the rest up to God/the powers that be.

Hello all. I’ve been away a very long time. I had my surgery in 2009. The journey has been very interesting. I kept it off for 9 years. Then it started to creep up again. So heartbreaking BUT on April 27, 2022 I got on the scale and noticed I was up to 291 lbs. I had gained 91 lbs! I started a 1200 calorie diet and exercise plan that day and have been on it ever since. To date I’ve lost 51 lbs. it’s so hard but with determination and wanting to get back to where I was I’m getting there. What I want to throw out there, don’t take your tool as a magic wand. Really work to chance your habits and lifestyle and it’ll be all worth it. I’m glad to be back if y’all will have this old chicken

When I went into my surgery 17 months ago, I had an A1C almost at 8, and that was with control. The day after my surgery they took me off all diabetes meds. Just had a very comprehensive set of tests done, and it was 5.4; not even pre-diabetic anymore.

Walking was my main thing until they cleared me for normal routine. Then stretching. Then rowing. Then stability. Then core and back... LOTS of core and back! Then weights.
Set goals, stay hydrated, wear earbuds, have fun.
When you're able to, I can't stress the importance of stretching, and getting our core and back in order, enough. It makes every single thing so much easier.

Congrats bro! I still couldn't get into running. For my cardio, I fell in love with the rowing machine. It's my moment of Zen (almost) every day.

I went to buy new shirts for work last week because the ones I bought two months ago became baggy and loose. I started with size "M" first which was still big and finally got size "S" slim fit shirts which fit me like a glove haha. I've never thought that this would be possible 🤣. Here is me in my new size "s" shirt and 31" pants. I need to lose some more weight from my thighs.

I was at the mall yesterday and saw them putting some shorts and T-shirts on display. One year ago I'd have taken a look and wished I could wear those. Not this time haha. I went in and got my first shorts in more than 30 years. It feels strange but awesome lol.
I'm now wearing size 33" pants (52" before WLS) and M/L T-Shirt (5XL before WLS) which was a nice surprise. No longer going to the beach wearing jeans after this 😃.

I have 2 non-scale victories this week. One weird and one not-so weird.
Weird: When laying on my side, I can feel bumps in my thigh (the side facing the ceiling). I assume it's cellulite. Weird. LOL!
Not-so weird: I can now wrap a regular bath towel around me and the ends overlap. This one made me so happy to discover, I nearly cried.

Was traveling home yesterday and spent a few hours in the airport. Brought out the laptop to do some work. About a half hour into it I realized I was actually using my laptop on my LAP for the first time. I have a lap!!!

So I don’t think phentermine is working perfectly for me. It doesn’t give me energy at all. I actually took a nap yesterday on it and I am doubting its power to control cravings. I have to admit I am celebrating a belated bday because my husband was in hospital during mine and I have had two bday lunches where I was able to skip the bread and substitute salad with my Protein so that’s better but I am still hungry at night which is my biggest problem I think. I am supposed to try this for a month and check back in but I see my family dr today who has also been trying to help with my weight so I am hoping maybe she can adjust the dose at least today while I am there. Fingers crossed that one of these meds helps me.

I tell everyone. It is literally my metric now on who to cut out of my life. The folks who are supportive, I appreciate. The folks who are genuinely concerned, I reassure. The folks with nothing good to say, I cut out of my life. WLS wasn't just a procedure for me. It was healing, physically and mentally. The same way I wouldn't hop in a vat of acid, I won't deal with acidic people anymore. It's not good for me.
The other reason I talk about it, is because if I can help someone who was in my situation, I should. You see the hesitancy in them just asking about it; that kills me. I try to be as open, and reassuring as possible, because I was there before, and lucky enough to have a friend share his WLS journey.

I must be on a really low dose cause I don’t even feel more energy. It’s 15mg. Haven’t been hungry though. Had to make myself eat something for lunch so maybe it’s gonna work. Not sure about night time. That’s when I tend to snack and I feel like it will wear off by then so we shall see.

My only advice with phentermine is to check your pulse throughout the day. Mine ran 115bpm when they had me on that. Saxenda, Ozempic, Victoria, all did nothing for me. Like, absolutely nothing. Luckily the bypass worked wonders, along with the mental part the psychiatrist worked with me about, and the yearly followups with their dietician. I hope you find resolution. 🤞🏾
