It seems like more and more new users forget to use the sidebar with surgery info and progress.

While it's obviously anyone's choice to keep the information private, it makes it so much easier to help with questions when you have an idea of where people are in their journey.

I'm wondering if it's simply because more users are mobile-only? Maybe they don't see the sidebars (I use BP on desktop only)? Maybe they don't even know it's there? It's especially helpful when someone asks about nutrition, complications, phase-specific worries and stalls to understand right off the bat where they are in their journey.

There's a world of difference between stalls happening for a BMI52 duodenal switch patient who had surgery 7 weeks ago and lost 10 lbs total and then a sleever who's a year out at BMI24. It's getting harder and harder to tell as fewer and fewer new users use the sidebar.

Maybe we the site could help nudge people to fill in the info?

It took me quite awhile to actually work out how to add the info and how to keep my progress up to date, so maybe other people are having the same issue they just don't know how to

So you are allowed Coke Zero? My surgeon said medically I am allowed but they still strongly suggest to steer clear because of the correlation between soda (even diet) and obesity even though they have no idea why they just know it happens. I am just curious what other countries doctors are saying about soda because I do miss my Coke Zero on occasion. If I know myself I will not be able to have just one or two though.

I think because soda is usually drunk with junk food and vice versa. I drink coke and soda Water sometimes i get a bit of a pain if i drink to fast or too soon after eating. If i am honest i guess it could have contributed to the slowing of my weight loss.people who drink soda/ssoft drink tend to have poor diets and people with poor diets tend to be fat so i guess that is the reason. I dont have it everyday but certainly more often that i should as i am not a fan of plain water and i cant stand anything with artifical sweetners.

  3. That's a hard one yes it reduces your hunger to start with, does it stop you thinking about food? no it doesn't I find I am thinking about food so much more. It has reduced a bit now 7 months out. But oh gee I remember thoughts of food and what to eat driving me crazy 🤪. In saying that though I always hard trouble deciding what I wanted to eat unless I craved something. You will feel "not hungry" faster after eating and I say not hungry because personally I haven't experienced that "oh my God I ate to much" full feeling since surgery. I have discovered that if I don't drink enough when I do eat I get an empty pit feeling my surgery buddy experienced the same but once I worked out it was thirst not hunger I sorted it out by having a small drink 10 minutes before eating. Everyone is different this has been my experiences. My best advice is to find something you can fully emerse yourself in that will take your mind off food it will help you in the early days.

I am 43 and 13 mos out. I started experiencing night sweats at about 8 mos out and wake up EVERY single morning completely soaked. My legs are even slippery. The sheets and i are both completely soaked in sweat. It happens pretty much every night. I do eat something before bed every night but that hasnt worked for me. I also was tested and am NOT in the change. My drs have no answers. So crazy to see so many around the same age with the same problem n drs still cant figure it out. Im gonna end up having to buy a new bed but dont want to until this stops. Have to wash my nightclothes after only 1 wear everytime. GROSS GROSS GROSS

Those "hormone " test the dr's do to test to see if you are menopausal are not very good indicators as in the early stages hormones can fluctuate daily . You could very well be peri-menopausal. Keep an eye on your cycle that will be your best indicator.

  5. I think the time you need is really unpredictable. I had decided to take 6 weeks off so I could get through the liquid and puree stages on a normal eating schedule as I do shift work and 12 hours shifts as well. But I ended up taking nearly 10 weeks as mentally the surgery knocked me around but going back to work gave me some of my old routine back and helped me get out of my funk but I certainly wasn't expecting what I went through to happen. We have also seen people post about being back at work going to the gym etc after a week 😳 I don't know that exercise other than walking is a good idea so soon after surgery but anyway I think 2 weeks depending on how physically demanding your job is. Is about average.

Congrats to all on a fast and uneventful surgery. I'm almost 1 week out. Everyday is different. I'm very low energy but trying to stick with Keto diet, at least in the beginning because I lose weight so slow normally. I have some health issues which aren't helping the low energy issue. Sometimes I'm surprised I'm hungry. I heard that generally in the first stages you aren't that hungry. The good news is having 4 oz of Protein Drink gets rid of the hunger. But its a good thing my refridge and pantry are emptied of anything I shouldn't be eating right now! I suspect I'm much older than a lot of people on this board.

You should only be on liquids at 1 week out

I am 2 weeks out and worried that im going to regret it. I think about food more than i ever have and im still in a lot of pain around one of the incision sites. It burns every time i change position or cough and i cannot use my core muscles without pain. I'm also freezing all the time. Im down 14 lbs so far, although it doesnt feel like ive lost anyhing and its starting to slow down. But i know there will be starts and fits with regard to the pounds coming off. I dont regret it yet but ive gotten close. Maybe once ive lost more weight (and actually feel like it) and i fit into jeans that i havent been able to wear in years ill feel more positive about things. But i dont regret it yet.
point is that you wont really know until you do it. I keep thinking of the positives and the reasons im doing this- to be healthier able to more fully participate in my life. maybe ill regret it if i dont achieve my goals or maybe ill realize that im still healthier even if i still weigh more than i want and cant eat all the things i could before. I wont know or be able to say, if i regret it until im farther away from surgery and back to somewhat of a normal life.
in looking at why others regret surgery or not, you have to consider why they regret it. Is the regret due to a temporary complication or long term failure to achieve goals, or something else.

i had the support of my family but not of my best friend, however i had to make the decision for myself, just like you. Regardless of what you decide, you have my support. And all the people here.

Hi, Dont worry it gets better I am 7 months out now and feel better about having the surgery I have come to the realization that without it i would still be fat, I still think about food alot but no where near as much as i did in the early days. I think you will be fine

I thought about that but im afraid that ill “accidentally” chew it and swallow it then want more. I can wait out the cravings, its just frustrating that i have them. I wish i had more of an aversion to eating. Or at least eating certain things. Im worried that as i heal, it will be harder and harder to stick to a diet.

I thought the same but it is much easier than I thought. I think you do have to allow yourself to have what you crave every now and then other wise you will drive yourself crazy and binge. For example I allow myself a coke and chocolate every other day (small portions) and last week I wanted it everyday but this week I have have only fleeting thoughts about consuming those foods/drinks and not had any. once you get into the habit of making better choices it gets easier.

  9. Yes very normal, all sorts of emotions and perceived realisations will emerge. it does get better and half of the "realisations" are not real for example I was convinced I would never eat or drink normally again ........wrong you can. I realised food was my best and sometimes only friend and how much, I relied on food to fill the empty spaces in my life that was a hard one to deal with. But you will get there remember alot of this is caused my hormones as well and once they settle down your emotions will too. 💖

I wish i could break up with food. I'm almost 2 weeks post RYGBP and i find myself having cravings that ive never had before. Im craving all kinds of unhealthy food like french fries, fast food, Pasta, candy, etc. i did not have these cravings pre op and it was always fairly easy to avoid these types of pitfalls. Im not saying i ate perfectly pre op but Portion Control was my biggest downfall, not necessarily what was being consumed. i haven't lost my taste for anything apparently. I haven't given in and tried all things i want because im still so soon post op but i hope this stops quickly because its really hard to have a Protein Shake when all i want are french fries. Anybody know of french fry flavored Protein Shakes? Lol
how long did it take for people's taste to change?

you could try what I did, just lick a chip (french fries) :) to get the taste in your mouth without eating it

I knew you were out west but couldn’t recall where exactly - Conclurry? My family is in Gatton & mum told me this morning they’d had 17in since early Wednesday. I’ve had similar in Brisbane. All our farms are flooded, Water through packing sheds & through the offices. Higher than 2011. Mum & both brothers are isolated because of flooded roads & bridges & subsequent damage. One brother had septic back up in his house & same issue at the offices & packing sheds. And it’s still raining. Will be a huge mess to clean up. Said to mum: everyone is safe & healthy. Everything else is just stuff. We are a land of droughts & flooding rains.

Cloncurry yes, Yes that's for sure stuff can be replaced although cleaning up after floods is a very mess and hazardous Maybe we should privately message rather high jacking the OPers post to chat :) or we could start a new thread for general chit chat :)

I like capsicum but am allergic to chilli. At least you can pick the capsicum (pepper) out @OnMyWay1956. Try to go out to eat & order something without chilli these days. And they rarely identify it on the menu either or use terms that might indicate the presence of it. I have to ask if it’s in what I want to order every time I go out. It is frustrating when they recognise certain allergies but not others. I’ve had a wait staff tell me there’s only a little bit in the dish & it isn’t hot after I’ve told them it’s an allergy. They wouldn’t suggest someone with a nut or seafood, etc. allergy eat a meal with their allergen present.

Oh gracious, a Queenslander with a Mango allergy - 😱. You’ll be kicked out of the state 😆😆😆. I love mango but they tend to make my restriction kick in if I have more than a couple of bites so sad.

(You getting any of this rain @SleeverSk or are you too far west?)

lol yeah people are astonished when I say I cant eat Mango or banana. No not getting any of the rain, I am up near Mt Isa. How about you much rain? Looking at friends posts from the SE it looks terrible

I’m 8 weeks out. Maybe I am pushing it a bit and should cut back a little. Hopefully my dietitian will give me some guidance if they ever get back to me.

oh yes at 8 weeks out it probably is a bit much usually they say 1 cup of food per meal at this stage, doesnt sound like much but it actually is a fair amount

I haven’t been given a plan, that why I’m asking. I’m in the uk so not sure if it is different here but they haven’t given me any set amounts of food to eat apart from 65g of Protein a day.

How far out are you?, I am 7 months out and that is roughly the amount I Can eat too. I can eat almost all of a 2 egg omelette with baby spinach, tomatoes, cheese and bacon in it.

I didn’t feel restriction until I got to regular food and even then I could eat more than I was expected to if I wanted. I still have to measure my food or I could easily overeat. According to my doctor this is rare though. You should be able to feel restriction with recommended portions around when you get to regular food.

I am the same as you, its a bit frustrating.
