    TriCare Approved Now I Wait:(

Tomorrow is the day. Best wishes and all will be well. Let us know how it all goes.
  2. Hey everyone. I haven’t wrote anything note awhile. I’ve been hyper focused on making life long changes. Today I went for my appt and was told I’ve completed everything needed for authorization. They have recommended the sleeve with HH repair. I feel good and very nervous. Now for questions… 1. Those with Tricare, any issues with approval? 2. VSG and HH repair… what are the good and bad; if you’ve had it done? 3. How long were you out of work for recovery? Thank you all for you answers. They are greatly appreciated.

    Package submission

Oh wow. I am going to try and see if I can work remote while I recover. Currently what I do, it can be done at home from my bed; I don’t have to be in the hospital for that. If they agree to it, I will come back to work when I’m on soft food. I am definitely anticipating pain from the surgical site and referred pain. I am starting to prepare my family for how I need them to help me.
  4. Hey all!! Today I had my first weigh in appt after the consultation. It sucked…. I did not lose any weight. The doctor thinks it’s because I’m either consuming too much protein or the type of protein. I was drinking 3-4 protein drinks a day due to my wonky job schedule. I’ve been drinking premier protein and protein2O. My doctor said that he’s noticed that the patients that drink the premier protein are either not losing or they are gaining. This was really frustrating being that I have been diligently working hard at losing weight. So I will now only drink 1 protein water and 1 protein shake a day. My questions are… what protein shakes are y’all drinking during the pre-op weight loss phase? Has anyone noticed an increase in weight with the premier protein? They keep pushing bariatric advantage, but I fearful because my stomach is ultra sensitive to some dairy things. im really trying hard to not get discouraged. I would help to hear others difficulties during this phase to know that I am not alone or weird. Thanks a lot. Trying to live a good life
  5. I saw the nutritionist today. She said that I’m doing everything the way that I should. She recommended that I only drink one protein shake a day and make sure I add some carbs to my meals. She reassured me that this phase is the prep phase for my soon to be new way of living. She said that some people don’t lose weight before they go on the pre-op liquid diet. However, when I start that diet I will lose some pounds. All in all I feel better. She has not seen any weight gain due to protein brands, but think that my lack of a loss was due to too much protein. Now I am focused on eating 2 good nutritious meals, my 1 protein shake and listening to my body. I was trying to walk 5 days a week, but it’s hard when you work overnight. So I’ll do 2 days of walking at home. When I’m at the hospital walk up the stairs, take the long way to the units… anything to get mg heart beating and steps in. last thing… I thank you all for being there. This forum has been great.

    Zero pounds…

I am a plain Jane when it comes to cooking. I grill my fish in the air fryer. I only eat green veggies that are steamed… I am super picky. Not to mention I hate weird textures. Thank you…you too!

    Zero pounds…

I appreciate your transparency. I still have 8 weeks left until we set a date… I guess. So I will just doing the best I know how and listen to the nutritionist.

    Zero pounds…

I was going to ask my nutritionist. I am already a very picky eater. When I show my good log to the doctor it’s all good, but I didn’t lose. It’s so frustrating.

    Zero pounds…

That is what I was saying. So you only ate 1 real meal a day. I think that’s where I am going wrong. I’m drinking 3-4 protein drinks (shakes and water) and eating 2 real meals a day. I usually mix my shakes in my coffee as the creamer, sugar, and all. I’m really hoping that the nutritionist can offer some more advice because I am really trying hard to not feel discouraged. The doctor said we just want to see you lose “some” weight before surgery. By the way…. I am still in the working up process. I do anticipate a lot of weight during the 2 week liquid diet liver shrinking phase.

    Zero pounds…

I am pescatarian and eat 2 meals a day. My day usually consist of: protein shake for breakfast, fish and veggies for lunch and dinner. My snacks are cucumbers, avocados, nuts, etc. I log everything I put in my mouth down to my vitamins. I meet with my nutritionist on Wednesday so I can her take on it. I agree that I am more than likely taking in too much protein which is stalling my weight loss vs. the brand. So 1 protein shake or protein water a day for me. For those who had the surgery… did you encounter any let downs or difficulties during that phase.
  12. Hey all. Like I’ve said before I am starting on this journey. I had my first consultation appt on Aug 31, 21. I’ve completed y lab work and psych appt. Psych has cleared me for surgery. I have my nutritionist appt after my 1st official WLS weigh in appt. I AM SO WORRIED that I won’t qualify. The doctor told me that I have to lose 15-20# before I could have the surgery. My thoughts were if I could lose weight that easily then why have the surgery. The problem… I’ve been watching what I’ve been eating, working out 2-3 times a week, eating low carb, low fat, drinking the 64 oz of water, 90g of protein, and the one meal a day; YET I’ve lost zero and gained 2. I’m starting to think I am cursed. My family has been helping me by not bringing crap home, making sure they are being supportive. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone else gone through this? I’m trying to stay positive, but I feel this is my last resort to living life. Please help…all advice is welcomed. P.S. My genetics are baddddddd….. I want to be around to see my baby marry. She’s only 11 and I may not see it.

    Anxiety vs. Fear

Thank you all for the good advice. To answer some of your questions: my team wanted me to substitute 2 protein shakes for meals. So I usually eat a sensible lunch since I work night shift and I’m not as busy vs day shift (I’m a nurse). I log everything before I even put it in my mouth. If I don’t eat it all, I don’t alter the entry’s. I keep the calories for it. I think the weigh gain was due to my monthly BFF. However, I’m still anxious and worried about having to lose this 15-20 pounds. I know I will probably lose most of the weight when I start the “liver shrinking” diet. I’m just being ultra tough on myself because I’m tired of not living due to the excess weight. I’m eager to see what the nutritionist has to say. I use my fitness pal app to log everything. I am going to buy a food scale tomorrow. I am a pescatarian so I have to be very aware of my foods to ensure I am getting my protein in my food as well. when y’all were going through the beginning, were you nervous about the pre weight loss before surgery? How did you sike yourself out?

    Dairy-Free Protein Shakes?

I’ve tried Orgain, Vegaone, and Muscle milk non dairy. They all are tolerable. I try to do non dairy as much as possible because my stomach is funny acting. However, I’ve been able to tolerate premier protein shakes. I was SUPER skeptical.

    Starting the process

My insurance only requires 3 months to have the scheduled appts, lab work, Nutritionist, psychologist, endoscopy, and vascular appts. I received most of my labs back already. I’m so ready to get my date though. My husband told me to take the required time off for recovery. We’re already making plans to prepare financially by paying things up for 2 months. My next change is to start walking 3 days a week for 39 minutes. I work in a hospital 5 days a week and while at work I will work to go up and down all 6 flights every night. Being that I work night, my meal times are different. However, I’ve noticed that I do much better when I’m prepared. I usually bring lots of fruits and veggies with me to snack on.
  17. Hello everyone. I am new to this forum. I had my Weight loss consultation on August 31, 2021. I am super excited and ready for this new journey. I’ve been overweight most of my adult life and now it’s time to regain control over my life. I’ve been given some guidelines to start implementing vitamins And at least three proteins shakes a day. I’ve been monitoring what I eat, making sure I get my steps in, and being mindful of my feelings and relationship the food. I was told I needed to lose 15 to 20 pounds prior to surgery. This is kind of stressful Being that I’ve been trying to lose 15 to 20 pounds for the past year and I’ve been unsuccessful. However, I’m going to continue to do my best, roll with the punches, And trust the process. Good advice is welcomed 🤗
