Thanks! Avoiding the scale sounds like a good thing to do at this stage. I think I'm going to keep the batteries of mine in the office. Otherwise I'll be weighing myself non-stop 🤣

Congrats! The final couple of kilos came off surprising quickly for me, though I think that's how it felt because I wasn't paying much attention to the scale at that point. And I absolutely know the feeling of weighing less than you ever have as an adult. I haven't been under 70kg since I was a young teen. It's a trip!

  3. Thanks

3 Days is still fresh wounds, you're going to feel rough after major surgery like this. It took a good two weeks for my bypass + hernia repair to feel comfortable again. You have to be patient and give your body the rest it needs to repair itself.

I've not lost any significant weight over the past two months or so. The scale barely moved down from 83 kg but I noticed some changes on my measurements. The clothes that I bought three months ago are loose now but not to the point that I have to buy new ones.
I didn't weigh myself for almost 10 days and you can imagine my excitement when I saw the number on the scale

I can't remember the last time I was below 80 kg. Maybe in my early teens. I'm now 9 kg away from my target and I can't wait to shed those. Fasting certainly helped break the stall for me. I hope to lose 5 kg more in the remaining 20 days of the fasting month.

Clothes browsing and wish-listing was honestly the best distraction and motivation pre and post-surgery. You'll be startled by how quickly you shrink through the sizes on your way to goal! Absolutely advise buying second-hand during the losing phase where possible, because the window of time with each size down is maybe a month or two. I ended up passing on items to goodwill that I didn't even get to wear!

I was rushing to get something from a nearby shop before they close and ended up running for like 150m or so. I managed to get there in time and I was not out of breath or nearly dying. I don't recall running in the past 20 years of my life. Time to get running shoes I guess 😃

I finally had the self confidence to go for the haircut I’ve always wanted: a white blonde pixie! Also got a very small thin septum piercing. I feel more like myself every single day and I love this feeling. 💕

Three weeks past surgery date— I was able to put a ring on that I haven’t been able to wear in 5 years. The inflammation in my joints is finally calming down!
    YAY!

If I did the math right, you went into surgery weighing 190. I’m not sure what your expectations are regarding the speed of weight loss after surgery, but it’s safe to say they might be a bit unrealistic. Your anatomy was just rearranged, your body is in shock trying to heal and all of this is happening while taking in very few calories. The hospital will pump you full of fluids that can take a days to release, plus you’re inflamed and probably haven’t had a decent bowel movement yet if it’s only been three days. Take a step back, breathe and remember that surgery isn’t a switch that turns on fat release. It’s much more complicated than that. This entire process is life altering, so take it one day at a time and read up on the posts provided by @GreenTealael. It’s gonna be okay! You WILL lose the weight because it sounds like you’re following the program. Just give your mind and body more time. 🧬

Thanks to this forum and all the wonderful people here, I feel mostly ready and know what to expect. Still scared of course, but ready. I will be back with an update...and probably lots of questions! Lol Take care, all!

two months is long for a stall - you may have thrown yourself in maintenance. Have you tried cutting back on overall calories?
EDITED TO ADD: If you were under 200 lbs - (you're 5'10", so pretty tall), I'd guess that it was probably because you're close to your new set point. But if your current weight on your profile is correct, you could still potentially drop quite a few lbs. I'd cut back on calories and see if that does anything.

You are doing so well. I really struggled to get Protein in too, its tough in the beginning. The advice I was given was just do my best every day. You will loose your stamina if you don't keep your calorie count but you have a few weeks grace yet. Eating high protein yogurts and drinking a shake a day should give you 50 grams of protein. This is a great boost of energy and if you choose wisely, low cal too. At the end of my day, I total my protein, using a app and if I am short I have some cheese, skimmed milk or a protein pudding. It will all get easier in the weeks to come

The IV going in can hurt, not gonna lie, but it's over with quickly. Just breathe deeply and slowly and keep chatting to the nurses and anesthetist, they deliberately chat away to you to help your nerves. Once the IV is in, they'll give you sedation and you'll fly off into a delightful high and you won't care from that point on. Then they'll start the anesthetic, and there will be a total time skip. You won't dream or even have any sense of time passing like you do when you sleep. Instead you will suddenly wake up again as though a mere second has passed. You may have pain while waking up, and if you do, they'll quickly give you strong pain relief like morphine. If they ask you if need more during your stay, always say "yes"!
I know it's scary when you've not had surgery before, but this is a safe procedure now, and you have an entire TEAM of excellent professionals whose job is looking after you and keeping you safe. Let them know you're nervous when you go in! They have drugs that can help.
    You'll be fine!

I easily hit all my Protein goals with protein fortified soy milk (which I used for unsweetened matcha lattes), scrambled or marinated tofu, and shakes/protein Water during the soft-food phase. It's such a short period of time, you're not going to become deficient before more options are available to you. The post-op Vitamins will certainly help with that anyway.
I was still having Protein Shakes post-op, which I loathed and switched out for vegan protein water which was a nice double-up towards protein and water goals and a lot easier to stomach. I still use protein water to this day.
Tofu, edamame, mung Beans etc can all be turned into nutritious Soups during the puree and soft food stages, before you're able to eat solid foods like seitan. Soy based yoghurt also has a good protein count.

Smanky reacted to Tomo in Do you think I can lose 70lbs naturally? I'm at a crossroads :(
Some people can do it without surgery. Unfortunately, I was not one of them. Like the others, I would lose weight, only to regain it, and more each time. One thing that you will see in these threads are people saying they wish they did it sooner. I am one of those as well. I wish I didn't put it off. I wish I did it in my 30s, it would have saved me years of frustration and pain, mentally, emotionally and physically. I guess that's why I am sharing my thoughts with you. I wish someone sat me down then and told me that I needed help, that it was only going to get worse. Instead, they just kept telling me "just don't eat so much". No one in my family understood overweight people. To them, it was simple but not to me. It still isn't. I still have to work on it every day. WLS saved my life in so many ways.

If you do decide to do it without surgery, it would probably be helpful getting a therapist to help you with your relationship to food and to be successful.
