I am a few days away and so excited and nervous all at the same time.
Thank you all for sharing and keeping us updated. It helps so much for us who are waiting and have questions.
My surgery is a revision from sleeve to bypass due to Hiatal Hernia which my surgeon will repair, GERD and never getting to goal with some weight gain.
    2017 HW 284 I’m 5’3
LW after sleeve 194 after I juiced for three days to break the 200’s.
Then two years ago I gained up to 224 and I turned vegetarian. Got down to 187. Then COVID hit. I have gained and lost the same 30 lbs for the last few years. Now my current weight is 225. My revision is set for Thursday, 2/17. I am hopeful all my efforts will get me to goal this time. I’m scared to end up the same. Wish me luck.

Well, had my pre-op visit with my surgeon and pre-admission testing done today. This is it! I told the dr. that I was feeling frustrated and like I'm not following the diet instructions because I've hardly lost any weight (6 lbs) in 1 week and he reassured me that the idea is for the liver to shrink, it's not for me to lose weight, so that made me feel a whole lot better. They also gave me the name of some vitamin patches (which I can't remember right now 🤔) that they want me to use for the first month so I'm ordering those today. I need to arrive at the hospital by 5:30am and confirmed I am his first case so I joked with the nurse when I told her, well that's good! He will have had a good night's sleep so he'll be fresh and ready to start with me haha!! 8 more days to go! 😀

Only 4 days post op but feel confident to say that the prep week was harder than the surgery! I was hungry all the time with zero energy. Try to stict as close to the prep diet as possible as it really does make your surgery shorter, with fewer complications and less residual pain. Mostly because the more you shrink your liver, the better off all those things are. Heard that from Bari and Hysterectomy surgeon. If you slip (which I did 2 times) in that week. I had 1 or 2 bites and followed it up with lots and lots of water.

Day 2 and I’m feeling really good! I was home 7 hours after checking into the hospital. Anesthesia kicked my butt so I slept for hours. I wouldn’t say pain but discomfort and exhaustion initially. I went for a walk this morning and made it around the whole block. Now it’s just focusing on hydration.

    How is everyone else doing?

I had sleeve and I feel that my team prepared me for the surgery pretty well. The one thing I didn’t really absorb (although I know that they told me) is how easy it is to “eat around” the sleeve. In other words it truly is only a tool. If you wanted to you could eat a little bit every hour and still get in a huge amount of calories. It really is up to the individual to make better choices. Wish I could explain that to all those that think this is the easy way out.

Had my surgery on Monday 1/25 and I had a 2 week pre op diet of 2-3 shakes and a Protein and vegetables for lunch. sugar free Jello for desert if needed and 64 oz Water. And Clear Liquids day before. I think the pre op diet is a great way to start getting yourself into the mindset of you aren’t going to be eating a lot… I lost 16 pounds on the pre op. As for time off the dr is giving me 6 weeks because of the physical job of being a lineman. It’s only the beginning of day 3 and so far so good!!! Good luck with your surgery.

I am going in this morning for the sleeve. I was good up till this past Monday and Wed where I always in complete freak out Mode. I talked to a couple of people who have had the surgery and that put my mind at ease. I have been good and confident the rest of the week. Remember you are choosing this surgery to take control back. To get Healthier for a long life ahead of you. Try to wrap your head around that and you will be in better head space. You just have to get through the pre diet which I breezed through losing 15lbs and the first few weeks. My people say it gets much better and it’s a decision you will not regret especially after you see your numbers go down. Good luck to you

Here is something that has helped me a lot...
I watched an interview with a Navy SEAL trainer, where he talked about people dropping out of SEAL training. Roughly 75% of the people who start the training drop out. He said the people who fail have a "long horizon." They are miserable in this training -- wet, exhausted, hungry, angry -- and the people who fail say to themselves, "I can't handle five more days of this." They think that every moment will be like the one they are currently experiencing and they quit. The ones who succeed and graduate have a very short horizon. "I can make it until dinner break." "I can make it until they let me take a 20 minute nap." "I can make it through sundown." And when they reach that horizon, they set a new short horizon.

Just tell yourself, "I can make it until I take a nap." Then, "I can make it until dinner time." Then, "I can make it until bedtime." Keep giving yourself short horizons until you've gotten through this stage. You can do it!

@ElseeGee181 I understand the struggle with pinpointing the core issues and triggers that caused me to emotionally eat. I chalked it up to boredom and just loving the way crappy food tasted. I went through months of self reflection and found so much insight from eating mindfully. Each time I impulsively ordered DoorDash or ate candy, I checked in with myself to find out what prompted the action and urge. I recommend looking into HALT self check. It stands for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired. It was so helpful for me and at least gave me a starting point to work through the underlying issues.
    Good luck!

It seems we aren’t alone and many of us are in the same headspace.

when I’m having a ‘positive polly’ day. I pop on some tight clothes, do my hair, put make up on and feel great and remind myself how far I have come. I look back at photos from a year ago and create comparison photos to remind me actually how lucky I am that I have managed to get through this. My health is much better. I am much happier in general….

however we all have those days where we feel a little bloated or chubby. Clothes don’t seem to feel right, we find bits of skin or something we never noticed before that now starts to annoy us and we concentrate so hard on the smaller issues such as that damn scale!! I also crave attention from others to tell me how skinny i am and how great I now look..

i guess the conclusion is —— it doesn’t matter what size you are. What the scale says… or how your clothes fit you. We will ALWAYS find flaws and bits we aren’t happy with. We looked at ‘skinny’ people and longed to be them because from the outside we assumed they were perfectly happy with their bodies.. truth is they had hang ups just like us.. maybe just not as noticeable.
but we will continue to work towards changing our minds.. we changed our bodies and now it’s about learning to live and LOVE our new us…

(can you tell I’m having a positive polly day )

That's such good news. I take 6 pills daily and the size of them concerned me. From what I hear, there can be mood changes during recovery so the last thing I need is to have difficulty ingesting psych meds...
