My Fitness Pal - Wanna Be Friends?

Im on myfitnesspal, name is megsmaroo. Add me. One day at a time...
  2. I had my first meeting with my actual surgeon who will be doing my surgery. I LOVE him, very nice, super friendly, took his time, knowledgable, and not to mention but HOT. woo! hahaha. With the insurance I have (Highmark BS in Central PA) they require a 6 month pre-op diet under supervised care. So, I go to start that next Thursday at 3:30. Then I have til rougly the first week of September for the end of the diet and I can get my surgery date. In between now and then, I also have to get with psychologist and have that done as well. Nervous, but excited. And it's weird to be opting into a surgery, although I did opt in for my gallbladder removal, but that was pure agony. I guess being overweight is pure agony in it's own right. So, here we go. I've already lost about 3.2 lbs. since February, not as fast as I'd like, but something, esp. after gaining 10 lbs in Jan/beginning of Feb (thought I was pregnant, was super sick and wasn't working out and was eating really bad). I'm back on track though. Some days are better than others though. I keep my calories around 1800, as recommended by the dietician through Highmark as of right now. I do cheat sometimes, as far as a peice of candy or some ritas italian ice/bruster's ice cream. But I try my best to measure, count calories and be aware of what I'm eating. It's hard work, but being overweight is hard work, so to lose weight and help my asthma/allergies/lessen my chances of cancers/diabetes/heart disease, I'm all for it. CW: 282.8 // GW: 170-180 // Size 24 pants // Size XL/XXL shirts // 40/42 DD // 10 shoe // 7 1/2 ring size (ring finger) Can't wait to get the band and get things started.

    Consultation with surgeon/dietician

Update: I am almost done with my 6 month supervised diet! I'm getting super excited and nervous too. I go for my 5th visit on August 19th at 10am. At the end of September, they will submit to insurance and hopefully it won't take too long for approval. Looking at having surgery in October. I'm going to my 2nd support group meeting tonight at the hospital, tonight's topic is exercise and weight loss.

    Coventry in Kansas City, MO

I use to actually work for GHP/Coventry of MO and I can tell you it def. depends on what your employer chooses and whats offered, I would def. call Coventry/GHP and ask them if Univ. of MO covers lap band, they should be able to tell you even though your not covered just yet.

    6 month supervised diet

Hi. I'm about halfway through my 6 month pre-op diet with a nutritionist. I thought for sure I would be super impatient throughout the process, but I think it's better than someone who can fly right through the process and be banded right away. This process of 6 month's def. helps you to really learn what your getting into, your strenths/weaknesses, food, attend support groups, talk to others, get your head on straight about it, I think it def. prepares us better. I find myself getting impatient now, a bit. I have my 4th nutritionist appt. next Tuesday the 21st. I gained about 1.5 lbs last time, so I'm hoping I'm down again next week, I believe I am, but only the scale will tell the truth. I'm trying not to focus on the weight so much, but more about being healthy and being to be me, while I'm still young. Good luck with your journey! Keep us posted.
  6. Going to my first support group meeting tonight. I had my psych. eval. last week, went well, I truly enjoyed it. And that is who is speaking tonight, the psych I saw. My mom MAY go, not sure yet. I'm getting closer to surgery day! Still have 2-3 nutritionist appts left, then gotta wait for insurane approval.

  7. The gas pain of which you talk about, isn't what you're thinking. It is from the gas they pump in so they can see your insides better, however, the pain afterwards is in your shoulder/back, that's where the gas goes once their done. I had my gallbladder taken out about 1.5 years ago and they said it will be just like that surgery. It's not farting/burping gas, although I'm sure we'll have that too, but the gas you refer to is in the shoulder area.
  8. I can also definitely recommend the Weight Loss Clinic in Harrisburg, I'm also going through the 6 month supervised diet and will hopefully be banded in October as well. I am going with Dr. Matthew Davidson, HIGHLY recommend him. Good luck!

    Consultation with surgeon/dietician

So, a bit of a bump in the road. I was scheduled to start my pre-op 6 month supervised diet on April 7th, however, I ended up with a viral stomach bug for about 6 days that week, so I had to reschedule it until tomorrow April 19th at 3:30. So I can't wait to get that started tomorrow. I believe I have lost about 4 lbs since my last post, partially from being sick and then I tried to keep it off since then. I lost 11 lbs while sick over 3 days, if normal weight loss were so easy, huh? So rougly around September 19th, I should be getting my surgery date. Can't wait! Super nervous about it, but who isn't?

Hello all. The name's Megan, I'm 23 (24 in December). I'm not as far a long as most of you, but I'm just waiting on the phone call from the surgery center here in Harrisburg. However, I lose my insurance in December, due to being 24 and no longer a full-time student. However, I'm in a BIG rush to find a full-time job at the moment, have been looking for over a year, but seem more confident with applying for 6+ jobs recently. Anyways, I'm really hoping this is for me. It's nice to see a Twenties section on here and have so many successful stories, very uplifting and positive outlooks, I can't wait to get it done, IF I decide this is for me. I'm at my highest weight ever, I've tried everything, cutting things out, exercising (2-3x a week, still do), cutting back on this, on that, I did the Atkin's diet in 2002/2003 and lost 30 lbs, but it made me really sick, so I stopped and gain the 30 lbs back, + 40 more. UGH! Frustrating, plus I've had alot of stress the past 4 years in my life, health issues, school woes, boyfriend issues, you name it. Anyways...my stats: 270 lbs. (was 277 last November, lost 9 lbs, gained back 2 lbs recently). 5'5" I was roughly 190-230 all throughout high school and I'm just appalled at how much I am now, but glad I'm not alone. I want to get to a healthy weight of about 160 or less would be great too. So I've got about 110 lbs to go, hopefully all works out. I'll keep everyone updated throughout the process.

I have my consultation next Thursday, July 24th at 1:30pm. It's just an informational session, then I'll be given some "homework", just one step closer to deciding if this is what I want...
