    Delayed Restriction?

I am so glad you posted about this. I'm experiencing the same thing! I actually came here to see what I could find about delayed restriction. I was banded on May 13th and had my first fill June 26th. Before the fill the nurse withdrew the Fluid that I had in the band and found that I had 5cc's. I have a 14cc band. She put the 5cc's back in and gave me 2 1/4 more cc's. I was on liquids for two days, mushies for two days and then regular food. On the mushies, good heavens. I could eat everything - no restriction! I didn't eat everything but definitely ate more than I should have. I still ate healthy, but ate more than 4-6 ounces at a time. More like a cup or two! Since I went to regular food after mushies I've been so hungry and able to eat without incident - no PB or throwing up - nothing. Oh well...hellooooo.....until Monday night. Good grief. I PB'd, threw up a little....I can't much at all! I can chew and chew and chew and the food is like lodging in my chest and feels like it's going to come out my back. And I'm not hungry. It's TIME to eat, but I'm not hungry. It's like my band is getting tighter and tighter. I'm not worried, but it's so weird. Did my restriction just come on a delay?!

    Barilla Plus

It is a great Pasta. My husband hates it because it fills him up too fast! LOL And he says it cleans him out! But if I make regular pasta he says it doesn't fill him up and he feels "blah" so whole wheat pasta it is! He loves to hate it, I guess! I like it. It tastes good and I can make a lot of things with the Barilla Plus pasta. Doesn't take much pasta to fill me up either.

    Error in Band Placement

If I were you I'd be in that surgery in a flash. Get that band placed in the correct position, girl! If your doctor sees what happened and is willing to correct it, go for it!

    Do you use straws?

I use a straw when I'm having one of my shakes. It doesn't cause any problems for me.

    unsure about lap-band surgery

I researched the band for 3 years before making my decision. I've been over weight most of my life. If I could go back and have this surgery done at 20 years of age I'd have done it in a heartbeat. Follow your heart. Do your research, but above all, go with your heart and what your gut is telling you. If you feel that you can modify your life (the band is hard work - trust me) and exercise and let the band 'help' you, not do all the work for you, then go for it. There are plenty of great doctors out there who will help educate you on the band and on how to eat properly. Don't settle for a doctor or a team of doctors and nurses who don't meet all your needs. I found that I had to come to the place in my life where I was just tired of being overweight. Having HBP and then being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes corked it for me. I HAD to get the weight off. It's the best decision I've ever made - besides marrying my husband. Follow your heart.

One hamburger = diet??? I'm in trouble!

Isn't it amazing what people think of as normal? I'm learning how to eat like a skinny person and it's so not normal to me. I was never one to pig out, but I'm learning my portions were WAY too big. My family isn't a big over-eating family, but they eat what they consider normal sized portions. My uber small portions are just shocking to them. It's pretty funny. Good on ya for just the one burger. You're on your way!

    Umm...Sex Drive

Sounds like your friend might be making up for lost time. If so, that's too bad. She really is putting herself in danger. As for the sex drive after lap band, I know mine has improved. I attribute it to my weight loss though. I feel better about myself and my body feels better - healthier. Consequently, my husband is thrilled. Sex is more enjoyable, more fun and I want it more!

I am I the only Failure

Don't give up. This isn't your fault. Your surgeon should have had you on a pre-op diet. I would contact your insurance company and see if you can go to another doctor. In the meantime though, start the liquid diet. I know it's hard and yes, if you could do liquid diets you might not need lapband surgery, but four weeks of liquid diet will get you to the place where you can have the lapband surgery. Once you have the lapband it will be easier to keep off the weight you lost on the liquid diet. You can do this!! There are plenty of great liquid diet recipes out there. Four weeks may seem an eternity, but it's four weeks in the rest of your life! Start the four week diet now, start contacting your insurance company and see what happens. You can do this!! And remember to drink plenty of Water and exercise. Walk walk walk. That will help you drop the pounds as well. Hang in there and keep the faith! Don't let this get you down - you will succeed!!!

Joe Horn cleared by grand jury

This is a difficult one to answer because we weren't in Joe's position. My family has first hand knowledge of this type of thing. My 16 year old cousin locked himself out of his house and was crawling in through a window when the next door neighbor, thinking it was an intruder, shot and killed him. Tragic? Yes. Horrifyingly so. Did the neighbor think he was doing a good thing? Yes. He thought he was defending his neighborhood. While I don't now personally own a gun (I have in the past) I believe in our right to own a gun and protect ourselves and our property. If it had been me finding intruders breaking into my neighbors house - I would have called the police. If I didn't have a gun, I'd get a description of the guys and record it all the best way I could (video tape, etc.). If I had a gun, I may have run out to the street and told them to stop, I had a gun and the police were on the way. If I found intruders in my home and I didn't have a gun - I'd attack. I'd beat the ever loving crap out of them with whatever I had on hand (lamp, bat, etc.). If I had a gun, I'd use it. Point it and if they attacked, I'd shoot. Nothing will come between my loved ones (and that includes my animals) and me. We really don't know until we're in that situation. About a year ago my husband and I were sitting in our living room and I looked out the patio door and saw a young man (20 years old or so) standing at our slider attempting to get in (it was late afternoon on a Sunday). I gasped (loudly) and my husband followed my gaze. My husband is a very muscular, strong man. He's about 6'1" and 290 pounds of (mostly) muscle. VERY intimidating. He flew out of his chair, threw the slider back so hard it rocked off of it's track, slammed into the wall and belly busted the young man standing there. My husband towered over this young man and all I could hear coming from my husband was this booming voice demanding, "Just what the f$%* do you think you're doing!?!?!" all the while bumping him with his chest and belly. OMG. I was frozen to my seat. I kept saying, "Dave! Dave!" I guess my husband got sick of hearing that because he didn't even turn around and reached behind him and slammed the slider. I thought - this is it. My husband is going to rip this kids' limbs off. The kid was scared crapless. He couldn't even speak. His mouth was just dropped open in terror. I could hear my husband shouting and I thought so this is how it's going to go down. They're going to take my husband to jail - they always take the big man. Well, after a little bit my beloved comes in and tells me that the kids' girlfriend (who lived next door) had locked herself out. She sent her boyfriend around back to check the slider (we were in a townhouse). The boyfriend passed by his girlfriends condo on the end and went right to ours. Poor guy. I'm sure he crapped his pants for a week after this. Once my husband calmed down he went next door and apologized, but told the kid, "Dude, you have to be careful. You never know who's on the other side of that door. Pay attention next time." I realized from all of this that something primal, instinctive and animalistic almost comes over a person (especially a man) when his home or territory is under attack or seemingly under attack. Something rears up that says you're not going to allow an intruder and you will do whatever it takes to stop the intruder. Do I condone what Joe Horn did? No. Do I condemn him for it though? No.
  11. Go back to the diet your doctor and nutritionist set for you. It's there for a reason. It is difficult to remain on liquids and mushies, but it's necessary and will help with your healing. Just keep telling yourself it's only for a few weeks. I was on full liquids for 2 weeks, blended for 1 week and mushies for 1 week. Once you have a fill you'll feel restriction.

    does it hurt?

I've had one fill and it didn't hurt at all. They didn't numb me either. The nurse had me lay down on the table, pull up my blouse and breathe in. She felt around for a long time and then put the needle into the port. She pulled out what Fluid was in there to measure how much was already in the band and then reinserted the fluid and added more fluid. She covered it with a cotton ball and some tape and had me sit up. I drank a Dixie cup of Water and left. I felt no pain and it couldn't have been easier.

Who's the man Obama or MCcain?

I'm voting for McCain. Obama doesn't have enough experience and I like McCain's attitude and stability. Plus Obama has too much negative baggage attached to him. Oh and the final nail? Oprah supports Obama. No-thank-you. Her support was enough for me to really dislike Obama (although he's given me plenty of other reasons as well).
