I am well into my two week pre op liquid diet and I sweat this is killing me. I'll admit that I ate a tuna packet early on, then took some magnesium citrate to get it out of my system. DO NOT CHEAT! I promise it is not worth it! Magnesium citrate is a fate that I wish on no one!
My only advice is to diversify what you're eating as much as possible. I went from Premier drinks, to Fairlife Protein, to different types of Soups that are validated under the liquid diet. I was craving salty things, so the soups definitely helped me out with that!

It's definitely a hard pill to swallow and I actually just died my brown hair blonde because I noticed that my hair was thinning. The blonde makes it look far less noticeable on my head. I didn't have the most hair to start with, so when I noticed that it was coming out a little more than normal, I panicked.
However, from what I've heard, the hair can come back because the hair follicle itself isn't dying or being damaged, it's the hair coming out of it that is weak. While I don't know if that's 100% true, it gives us hope!!!

I brought my iPad logged into Netflix and that was more than enough to occupy me the little time I was awake and not walking or drinking or eating (broth).

I just had surgery on Aug 16th. I'll be honest - I planned on reading and futzing around on my phone/tablet at the hospital, but I did nothing. I didn't even turn the TV on, which is weird because at home I am always listening to music, having the TV on, reading, something. The first day I was dozing in and out and the second day I was so focused on trying to drink and taking small walks around the ward that it seemed to fill the hours. Bring something you can entertain yourself with (books, tablet, whatever) but don't be surprised if you don't touch it much.
Once I got home, I did a lot of reading, writing and jigsaw puzzling. I had all these other plans of what I would do with the extra time, but honestly again I was so consumed with trying to get all my fluids in, as well as napping now again, that I just let my body guide my decision making on what to do or not do. Especially in the first week - it got better in week two, I felt like much less of a slug.

It really is exciting. A little scary, but exciting to know that things are going to be changing for the better. Today was the first day I went for a walk in shorts since high school and it felt so liberating. I never thought I would feel comfortable enough to do that again.
I imagine my success in the future is going to break through those barriers even further and I'll have even more "firsts" to accomplish. I look forward to my future and I hope you do to!

Typically it depends on your insurance and your surgeons availability. I had to wait about 3 months out because of scheduling, but my best friend only had to wait 3 weeks. I'd contact your doctor's office in order to get a solid answer.

Today I was walking through the center of town (closed to cars) and was people-watching... how easily they moved, how energetic they seemed to be.
I'm having a lot of trouble reconciling the idea that a year from now, if I stick to the plan and keep working the way I know I can, I could be that way.
I've been so obese for so long that I can't imagine a life where I can just... go to a store and buy pants. Or just... decide to sleep somewhere else without having to pack up my CPAP. Or just... run for the sake of running. I literally cannot imagine it. It should be a source of motivation, but it's impossible for me to wrap my mind around it. And then I get all overwhelmed.
I've failed so many times before, that I don't dare let myself hope.

sierra.1834 reacted to MarilynJ6354 in Gaining Weight on Pureed Food!
I have gained back 5 of the 23 lbs I lost, just since being promoted to pureed foods. Tomorrow I am supposed to start on soft foods but I am scared to death. I am pretty sure I will get a fill on the 16th, but I thought I would still be losing at this point. The doctor told me last week that I could advance to my regular workout instead of just the treadmill, which I did. Do you think it's muscle? I have a hard time believing I gained that much weight in a week just in muscle. I am getting scared. Should I go back to liquids until I see him on the 16th? Has anyone else experienced this? I log my food, weight and exercise in livestrong.com so I know I am keeping between 900 & 1200 calories per day.

I'm just started my puree diet today and I was worried about the same thing. I had my surgery on the 26th of July and I lost about 10 pounds pre-op, and I lost about 20 pounds since my surgery. I would hate to see the scale go up, but I understand that my body is just running its course to get back to "normal."

I'm almost one month out and my complexion is awful!!!!!! At first I thought it was an allergic reaction to something, maybe all the whey Protein isolate or something. Then I blamed a new pillow. Now I'm thinking it is VSG related.

I make salmon in the air fryer. I just season with salt and whatever else I'm feeling like that day, spray both sides with olive oil and "fry" at 380. Time depends on the type of salmon. For wild sockeye, 7 min seems to be the sweet spot. For farm-raised - 9 min works for me. I've done cod the same way too. I've made shrimp in it too, but you have to watch the timing as it's so easy to overcook. Usually about 5-6 min. for shrimp.

Another thing that helped me through week one was sonic ice (you can buy the bags, or if you don’t have sonic whatever place by you that has ice chips) and Powerade zero blue (or whatever your favorite sugar free drink is) I did all ice then a splash of that and ate the ice and it felt like a snow cone lol

I got the great value brand powdered Peanut Butter from Walmart and I’ve been adding that to my yogurt and shakes because I miss peanut butter so much! It’s actually pretty good and it has protein in it so bonus.
