  1. Congratulations on your surgery! You must be ready for that next phase of the diet. I know I couldn't wait for my soft food stage after 2 weeks of liquids. I hope you are healing well & that you are able to incorporate more foods soon. Good luck!

    I feel like I’m failing

Hi Bluesupef04, I am sorry that you are frustrated and feel like you are failing. Congratulations on your weight loss, it sounds like you lost around 70 pounds, that's awesome. You are absolutely not failing. I am also almost 3 months out. The weight seems to come off fast on pre op diet and the first month after the surgery. From what I understand average loss can be about 10 pounds a month for the first few months after surgery. Some lose more & some less. Stalls are also common for many WLS patients. I am sorry that you feel like your doctor isn't being helpful. I was surprised to read that he suggested eating once a day. Have you also been working with a nutritionist? You may want to meet with one to help you see if there is anything you can do with your food plan to help. I wish you luck moving forward & hope you achieve your weight loss goals.

    Breakfast ideas?

When I moved on from the liquid phase I started with Oikos Triple Zero yogurt, farina cereal with almond milk, sweetener & cinnamon. During the soft food stage, I added scrambled eggs. When I moved on to the modified regular diet, I had eggs with other cooking methods, high protein/ low carb bagels with light cream cheese, oatmeal with mashed banana or sweeter & cinnamon. I have also had protein waffles & pancakes with sugar-free syrup. I recently purchased the keto bread from Aldi and had that toasted with egg & cheese for the first time today. I often still start the day with a protein shake, just to make sure I get that protein in. I think I want to start making smoothies with some fruits, veggies, & added protein now that I am getting close to 3 months out. I hope you get some good ideas! It is helpful to hear what others eat!

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Hi Soonlee_W! I'm sorry that you feel like you are losing slowly. It is frustrating when you feel like you are putting all this work in and not seeing the results you expected. I am Just throwing some questions and thoughts out there to see if perhaps they might be helpful. Was your doctor's only advice to increase exercise? Did he/she suggest modifications to your meal plan or suggest seeing the nutritionist? Are you having difficulty eating foods or just get full fast? Did you try looking at other food plans to see how it compares to yours? I know my plan put limits on the number of egg yolks per week (3). Are you looking at calories, fat, carbs in addition to volume of food? Do you track your food (i.e. Baritastic), so you can see if you are eating enough nutrients? Perhaps there is nothing to change, and it is just matter of following the plan & waiting it out. I think seeing a nutritionist might be most helpful, maybe they can help you find targets for calories that would maybe increase loss. Thank you for sharing, as others might be having this challenge as well. I hope you figure out what is causing your progress to stall & start seeing results that you are hoping for. 😊

    blood pressure

Hi Lisa, Sorry to hear about the high BP. Is it elevated (higher than your normal) or high (at dangerous level)? Check the BP charts averages and make sure it is not at an unsafe level. You should call your doctor or go to the ER if it is abnormally high. As Lizonaplane said, different monitors and cuffs sizes can affect the accuracy of the reading. If it is elevated, drink some water, relax & recheck. You can also see what your doctor recommends to help it get lower. If you already take BP meds, perhaps you missed a dose? I hope you are OK & figure it out with your doctor. Keep us posted! 💜

Indymom -Thanks for sharing this, I definitely want to try it soon! ATeam -those squash potstickers sound good, too! 😋 They would be great to bring to a gathering/party, so at least you know you can eat one of the apps without going off your plan much. 👍

    Constant Nausea 8 weeks post-op!?!

There are also over the counter anti-nausea pills & Mylanta that may be helpful in the meantime.

    Constant Nausea 8 weeks post-op!?!

I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with nausea. It must be frustrating to not know what is causing it. I was given anti-nausea meds by my surgeon for after the surgery. If you don't already have a prescription for that, perhaps you can ask your surgeon if that is appropriate. I agree it might be a good idea to see what your primary doctor thinks, too, maybe they have some suggestions to help figure it out. I only seemed to get nauseated at night before bed and it was right after taking my nighttime medications & vitamins. I think it was connected to the vitamins in my case. The anti-nausea medication helped, and I continued that for a few weeks & changed some of my vitamins & timing of them. Dehydration can cause nausea (& so can blood pressure changes), so you could be right that it could be a contributing factor. If you suspect you are just slightly dehydrated, maybe you can try incorporating electrolyte powders (Liquid IV, Pedialyte). I know it is tough to get those fluids down the first few weeks, and even harder with nausea. I hope you figure it out & feel better soon. 🤞 Keep us updated. 😁

    Hot or cold?

My nutritionist recommended room temperature liquids, at first, but I think it was just because it is believed to be most easily tolerated by many people. I did follow her recommendation for the first few days, but was able to switch to cooler or warmer liquids quickly. I did avoid hot or ice cold liquids for the first 2 or 3 weeks just to be cautious. Those were fine once I had them as well. (I do seem to be able to drink the protein shakes (Fairlife) easier at room temperature, though.) You may want to try different temperatures to see what your new & healing stomach prefers. Just get the approval of your team if they gave you specific instructions. Good luck!😊

My story... I caused my own stalls.

Glad to hear you are back on track toward reaching your goal. Thank you for sharing your challenges with us. The stalls, ups and downs & difficult aspects of bariatric surgery are something that many, if not all of us, will face at one point. Hearing your experience can help someone know that it is possible to overcome their own obstacles in this process. Wishing you continued success & keep us posted on your progress. 😊

    Encouragement needed

The other posters are right, it gets better and this all sounds normal. The first week after surgery, it seems some people lose a lot and others not as much. You will see results soon. The water, protein & vitamins may be hard to get in the first few weeks, just aim to reach your goals the best you can. Hang in there, you got this! 👍

People and their comments pre and post wls

Your post just broke my heart. I'm so sorry that people are being rude, and have been rude. There are people who really need to learn how to treat others respectfully. I don't understand how people can intentionally say things that would hurt someone. I can totally relate to strangers, family, aquaintances, or "friends" making rude or insensitive comments about your weight. It must be so disheartening to continue to hear comments after losing weight, too. Do not listen to them! I know it is hard. You feel good, don't let others ruin your success & happiness. Wishing you happiness & sending support 💜
  18. Hi Footballmom92! You can try to do searches in the forum to see if there are posts by others that started out at a similar weight. I found the article below about a young man that had weight loss surgery. He was close to 600 pounds. Have you started researching doctors yet? Perhaps you can see if your doctor or one you might go to has patients with similar starting weights so you can use the same nutritionist or be in same support group if they have one. Maybe there is a group on Facebook you can find so you can connect with others there. This forum is also a great support system, we all may have different amounts to lose, but can easily relate to, share advice with & give support to each other. https://www.treatedwell.com/i-would-not-be-here-today-kingsport-man-says-bariatric-surgery-saved-his-life/ Wishing you lots of success on your path to a healthier weight.😊

    July 2021 Surgery People!

JMTaylor, eholmes89, & laurenantics, It sounds like you are all doing so well! Congratulations on your weight losses.👏 It can be hard to avoid comparing your weight loss with others. We need to remind ourselves that we're all different. I think it also may even out, somewhat (of course there are extremely quickly or slow losers), some lose a lot right away & then may have longer stalls. I think we all just want to get to our goal so badly. We'll get there! 😁🏆

    274 to 150lbs

    Congratulations, you look amazing!
  21. Wow, I didn't realize salad was considered a slider food! Popcorn is definitely something I might get in trouble with, so I need to stay away, at least during weight loss phase! That was always a weakness when I went to the movies. I couldn't say no to popcorn once I smelled it. 🍿 I will definitely need to measure it out once I have it again.
  22. Sorry to hear of your bumpy start, but I'm happy to hear things are starting to turn around. It should continue to get easier as you heal & move through the different phases of the food plan. Perhaps the sugar free icepops may go down easier or a warm broth. It is a lot of trying to see what your new stomach likes. For me, I get on little "kicks" of things I like for a bit, and then want nothing to do with them, but I think it is from being so limited at earlier stages. (I haven't wanted soups or tuna for weeks!🤣) Good luck recovering & healing from your surgery. Wishing you the best on your weight loss path.

    Hello!

🤣Yes, I know there are a lot of factors going into how much you lose!😁 I think we (well, I did) secretly hope to be at the higher end of the weight loss averages at first, but realistically I knew I'd be in the middle or lower end (especially with having Hashimoto's & PCOS). I was just trying to congratulate Bill_VT & express that 66 was a lot to lose in 2 months, but I also understood hoping (wishing) for more! ☺ (Really, I'm pleased with my loss so far & trying my best to stick to the plan😉)
  24. Candace76

    Hello!

Congratulations on losing 66 pounds already! It sounds like you have lost a lot to me. My surgery was about 2 months ago, and I would love to have lost 66 pounds by now! I think I expected to lose more my first month, but I'm just happy it is coming off. Hoping your foods start to stay down better soon. I wish you continued success with your weight loss.

    Got the call today...APPROVED!!!!

Congratulations on getting approved for surgery. Yes, take pictures! (I don’t love pictures of myself, but had my husband take one right before surgery. Still have not wanted to see it, yet.) I wish I did it earlier, since I lost some weight pre-op. I found it helpful to research meal plans (just to get an idea, many are similar), get meal ideas for the different stages, & sample protein shakes. I also started logging food, journaling & habit tracking pre-op, which I found motivating. Wishing you luck & looking forward to hearing more about your story.
