  1. Hi! I’m almost 10 weeks post rny surgery. I keep having a long lasting bad taste in my mouth. (Yes I’m taking my reflux meds!) I was trying to pay attention to when it’s worse and I think it’s after I take my Calcium chew! I switched to a different brand and it’s the same taste. I’m wondering if calcium citrate chews cause a bad taste for anyone else? Maybe it’s something else and I’m way off but I feel like it’s the chews! Thanks for your time!

  2. I was surprised that I have no restriction. 8+ weeks now and I’m fully on solid foods and still have no restriction. I’ve even pushed it a few times to just see what I can eat and it’s safe to say I have no restriction at all. I’m also hungry. I’m nauseous off and on and I just feel like the surgery hasn’t been a success at all. I was NOT prepared for that.

  3. Hi Everyone,

I’m 8 weeks post op and I’ve been having nausea throughout the day for about three weeks now. My doctor ordered zofran and I wouldn’t say it’s been helpful, the nausea still comes and goes all day or lasts for a few hours off and on. My mouth will just Water terribly and it feels terrible and I don’t want to do anything because I feel sick. With the nausea came a bad taste in my mouth off and on and nothing tastes the same that I eat either. The thought of even my favorite foods sounds yuck. I’ve paid attention to try and pin point what is triggering the nausea but I see no rhyme or reason to it!

(I take omeprazole 40 mg twice a day, which I’ve taken for 10+ years.)

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or has any thoughts? Is this normal? I’m a worrier so I worry something is wrong.

    thanks for the help!

  4. I walked to go to the bathroom and get myself drinks and meds throughout the day. Otherwise, my team said to walk regularly so in addition to that I walked five times a day, five times around the outside of my house and spread that throughout the day. I pumped my legs frequently.

honestly, one minute every fifteen minutes is odd. (I am a nurse, and I’ve never heard that specifically.) If you’re finding that hard to do, or likely, interfering with resting and getting in fluids and causing anxiety, I would probably get up every hour instead and walk around for say, five minutes around your house. When you’re awake and laying down or sitting pump your feet back and forth a few times. Wiggle your toes back and forth. If you want to see if that would be a safe option give your team a call! I’m sure they would give you their approval!

    sending you a speedy recovery!

  5. I’ve put just a can of peaches in the freezer and it made a fantastic sorbet! The creami is so versatile!

Here is my recipe for Protein Shake ice cream:

    1 chocolate fairlife shake

    1 tbsp light cream cheese

1 tbsp Sugar Free Chocolate pudding powder mix

    2 tbsp pb fit

    1/2 cup milk- any

(I add a packet of sweet n low)

I blend that then put it in the container and freeze. I spin on light ice cream, then I add about 2-3 tbsp of milk right on the top and hit respin, you can respin again if you want it very creamy. This recipe to me tastes like a frosty.

  6. I had gastric bypass but I was in a tremendous amount of pain at the hospital and I felt like it was barely controlled. I should’ve spoke up more but I’m quiet and I try not to bother people. 🤷🏻‍♀️ My dr eventually ordered me morphine and even that didn’t help. Idk what was going on! Anyhow, by day five I felt like I had turned the corner and felt much improved.

That’s great you’re meeting your fluid goals so soon. Yay!

As to not feeling any restriction, this is not uncommon. liquids go through your tummy much more quickly & it is unlikely you will feel any sense of fullness or restriction until you are on soft or solids foods. It is also important to remember you had a lot of nerves cut & damaged during the surgery & they take time to heal. Best to tread carefully while the messages aren’t getting through to your brain so you don’t overdo it & strain your healing system. You may discover that your real hunger & full signals are very different than before when they come back: nose running, sneezing, etc. This includes learning what is real hunger vs head hunger. (For me I get restless & think something isn’t right with real hunger & I never crave a specific food or flavour.)

    All the best.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it ❤️

When I had my sleeve I was struggling with fluids but when it was revised to RNY because of gerd I was able to drink shakes and broth and Water and pretty much any Fluid pretty easily. I remember being in the hospital the day after surgery and being able to drink 8oz of crystal light no problem while having a conversation with my surgeon at the same time. He wasn’t worried so neither was I. Fast forward to purées and soft foods and I felt full much sooner.

Depending on your surgery, how much swelling and inflammation you have, things may be easier or harder at each stage. If you’re still concerned, talk with your surgeon and they’ll be able to reassure you.

Thank you for your reply, I hope the same happens when I get to purées and soft foods!

  9. Hello, I am 6 days post op and I find that I’m able to get in my fluids just fine, my Protein Shakes go down well and I feel nothing. I can eat my sugar free Jello and pudding, and I feel nothing. Zero sense of my stomach, no restriction. This may sound stupid but I’m just worried that my new stomach isn’t working. I keep reading how people can’t get their shakes in and I’m over here meeting my Fluid and Protein goals just fine. Is this normal?? Is my stomach not small enough?

  10. I’ve had quite a journey already and I haven’t had surgery yet! I was suppose to have surgery in November. Then covid shut surgeries down at my hospital. I didn’t get another date until June 8th. That was rescheduled for June 22nd. So, the night before my surgery on June 21st the hospital called me at 10:16 at night to say that my surgery was canceled due to my surgeon getting covid! So, my new date is August 10th. Phew! My very first doctor appointment was June 3rd of LAST year! Haha! I’m having gastric bypass with hiatal hernia repair.

How did your pre-op go? Are you getting nervous? Excited?

It went well, thank you! All my paperwork, and my blood work is done. I’m stocked up on everything I think I could possibly need at home. Now I’m going through the house and doing a big deep clean. I’m neither excited or nervous yet…. I almost feel like it won’t happen! I finished all my pre op things back on November 3rd but covid shut down my center and I was told that my surgery would be this month, then next month so many times that it doesn’t feel real! Haha! If you believe in prayer will you say one for me and my surgery that things so well?

My surgery is 10:20am tomorrow. I just finished school. My kids (8th graders) were so sweet. We have a group text on our phones so my husband can let them know when I’m out of surgery. 🥰
I’m having my acrylic tips removed right now, and I’m thrilled at the length of my nails and how healthy they look. Trust me, though, if I can be back here on Saturday getting myself put back together, I will be.
DH purchased the extra long phone charger, and I want to get PJs and maybe other stuff. Shopping keeps me occupied. 😊
That’s it for now. I’ve been 800 calories/day since last Tuesday. Yesterday I was hungry and had hunger pangs. I kept having ice pops and drinking Water. Today I’m good. My go-to drink has been zero calorie blueberry iced tea but it’s kind of a purple color and my pre-op instructions say nothing red or purple 48 hours prior to surgery.
My Covid test yesterday was negative which thrilled me because it is going through school like wildfire.
Wishing you all heartfelt prayers for easy surgeries and uneventful recoveries.

    Good luck tomorrow!

  13. I’m so sorry for your loss. Try to be gentle with yourself as you grieve. Take care of yourself. Get sleep, hydrate, take some warm baths. Hang in there. Sending you a hug.

I’m the same exact weight! My surgery is June 22nd. I’m nervous too. (Also nervous because they put my surgery on hold due to all the covid cases for 7months and during that time I gained weight. I’m really nervous about what they’ll say at my pre op appointment.) I’m nervous about complications. But I keep thinking that at my weight, I’m at risk of dying everyday! 😬 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hang in there!

  15. I was wondering if anyone else found themselves gaining weight during the preop process. My last appointment was a month ago and it’s been a stressful month for me and I stress ate. I have an appointment in a week and a half and I’m honestly pretty much crash dieting to try and be just what I was at my last appointment. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I didn’t realize how much I had gained and I’m glad I got on the scale. Uggh. (I know I need to learn some new coping skills going forward.) just wondering if anyone else gained during the pre op process. I’m disappointed in myself. I feel like I should have my head in the game but I had extended family members test positive for covid, my husband just put in his notice at work, I’m worried about so many things and it got the best of me and I stress ate. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think by the time of my appointment I’ll be the same (ish) as I was last time but I’m worried it will be embarrassing to go and not lose. Wondering if I’m not the only person who is having a hard time in this area. Thanks for listening.
