Everyone is different. I am 13 days post op and down 14 pounds. A loss is a loss - don’t compare yourself to anyone. This is your journey. And, who knows, they could be lieing to make themselves look good! 😊

Ugh so I got so excited and emailed my nutritionist and got a big fat NOPE. Seems like I’m on same plan as you. On phase 2 Protein liquids. Only 2-4 oz Soup w Protein Powder whisked in, yogurt, Protein Shakes, sugar free Jello and yogurt and milk 😢

Seth here. I just had my VSG at UC Health's West Chester Hospital (University of Cincinnati). It was on the 28th. It went well, though the surgeon told me I had an odd shaped stomach. It went would more than a banana shape. He said it should make losing weight easier for me.
I was in some pain on the surgery day. They gave me pain meds just after the surgery and later that night. I did not ask for any the next day.
I got up and walked around the halls quite a bit. I also drank Water only. I was discharged after one night.
Currently, my incisions are still sore but I do not need any pain meds. Now I am just trying to figure out what my "Full" point is. I am so worried that I will bust my staples that I am probably being way too cautious.
Today, I've had about 350 calories and almost 33oz of water. I am setting an alarm every 3 hours to try and drink more slim fast advanced nutrition. I also set a timer after I drink the Protein Shake to make sure I do not drink for an hour afterward.
I am only drinking about 1/2 of the 11oz shakes over a 30 minute period.
My program only allows liquid for the first month. On 2nd month we can move to puree. The 3rd month we can eat soft foods and on month 4 we can go back to eating anything that fits into our routine.
I think this is the most restrictive after surgery out there.

Quick check in. Wednesday marks 4 weeks since my surgery. I am allowed any food that sounds appealing to me, in small amounts and chewed well. There are many things that I have loved all my life that simply don't smell or taste good to me anymore though. Scrambled eggs, which have been a mainstay Breakfast for me just don't do it anymore. I did make a breakfast casserole for family brunch yesterday and ate a couple ounces of it and it tasted and settled well. I highly recommend people add in foods one at a time so when you feel unappealing symptoms (nausea, heartburn) you'll know what caused it. Because I spent Memorial Day weekend out of town with a big group of family, I sampled too many things and some did give me problems though tracking what did is tougher with that much variety. Lesson learned: It's okay and important to go slow. I'm still drinking at least one Protein Shake a day to ensure I'm getting enough Protein and calories.
I am down 16 lbs. since surgery and 38 since what I think of as "the beginning." Feeling better and better every day!

I started puréed food yesterday but was afraid to eat so I had a few tablespoons of Oikos Triple 0 Greek yogurt. It tasted like Heaven! Today for lunch I had a few tablespoons of Starkist chicken creations. I had the lemon pepper which was very good, though I though the lemon was a bit overpowering. Maybe it’s my tastebuds since that’s the first real piece of food I’ve had in over 3 weeks. Keep drinking your Protein. I’m down 13 pounds since surgery, 18 since I started my liquid pre-op

There are lots of different post surgery plans around. Some restrict certain foods that others allow. Some shorten the time at each stage others make them longer. But it’s always best that you follow your surgeon’s plan.
Re eating red meat. This is very individual. I can eat red meat without issue, could from very early out. Others struggle with chicken (especially breast). I can’t do oily fish or mashed potatoes. Some can’t eat certain foods at the beginning but after several months they can. Some develop sensitivities or allergies like developing a lactose intolerance.

I would bet you’re smaller than a 36 band size! I think I remember you mentioning plastic surgery? I had mine in January. My poor boobs were just empty sacks. Now post PS I’m a 32F. They’re awesome :) I can go braless if I like and they stay put.

So did I! Had my first post-op nurse visit today. Down almost 10 pounds. Was told I can start puréed food Saturday. Start with yogurt and work my way up to chicken. At least it’s a start. How are you feeling?

I'm a fan of the Costco/Kirkland Protein Bars. They are 190 Calories with 21 g Protein, 2 g sugar (slight variation from flavor to flavor). I like the Cookie Dough & Brownie flavors. I can't stand the Cookies & Cream.
As a backup, Luna, Atkins, or Pure Protein bars are OK. I'll eat them if I am out of costco bars.

My stage 2 (days 4-14 from my 3 sessions with the dietitian shows this for grains/starches: "Cream of wheat thinned, cream of rice thinned, thinned mashed potatoes, all thinned with fat free milk or broth". I like the broth. There's not much else on the 4-14 list other than something called liquid Gelatin. Still trying to figure out if that is microwaved Jello or what! I'd call and ask, as you need something beyond liquids to quell the hunger.

We had the same surgery date. Glad you’re doing well! I ended up constipated. Not going to get into details, but it was painful and disgusting. I’m still on full liquids until Saturday when I start 2 weeks of puréed food. Keep us posted on how you’re doing!

Those are all post op symptoms. I didn't weigh myself until I was over a week post op, when the bloating and edema had subsided. As to the inability to concentrate, that is also really common. Every system in the body takes a back seat to healing and your body is going through a significant change. Be sure you're getting adequate Fluid intake. Dehydration is a common cause of mental fatigue and concentration issues. Mostly though, be patient. Your body needs to adjust. Stay on your program and the weight will begin to slide off you. Best of luck.

Maybe I’m expecting too much too soon. Had my bypass surgery on 5/19. Weight myself this morning, 5/22 and only lost 0.8 pounds. Is this normal? Also, has anyone’s eyes gone “batty”? It’s like I can really focus on what I’m reading. I told my nurse at discharge but she didn’t seem concerned. Any help/comments/etc. is appreciated.

I also had mine on the 19th. How are you feeling? I also got my hernia repair which I’m happy about. I came home this morning. Just a little discomfort on the left side. I was able to shower and took a walk this afternoon.

Give yourself a little time—you are still swollen from the surgery, and I am sure you are still holding gas. At my two week
Post-op—I lost 15 lbs from my surgery day—it will happen. I was brain foggy for a good 10 days. I still can’t read for long periods of time. (I am almost 3 weeks post-op). The 2nd week is better but not ideal—I didn’t feel “myself” until this past Tuesday. Hang in there—it will get better every day! 🥰

Well that's good that they repaired that and that you're up and moving around!
I went home yesterday around 3. I was only given Water while in the hospital and did well. Never felt sick or got sick. Got in 18 additional ounces of water once home. Have been able to take my meds with no problems, even the big ass metformin pills, and so far today I got in about 55oz of liquid (which consisted of 2 premier shakes, 20 oz of Tomato soup/1 can Soup 1 can water and the rest Gaterade Zero). The one thing that hurts on me is my right side more towards the middle but the doc said that's the spot most have issues with as it's where he pulls the stomach through and so it's a larger incision spot. I really feel tight and sore when first getting up and wiping after peeing. LOL Now that a lot of this gas has moved through I can't wait for this stomach/muscle soreness to get gone and I will be great!! I slept good last night in bed but sitting up. I was afraid to lay down for risk of turned in my sleep an stretching the incision sites.
So far, so good! I am really happy thus far with how I feel and how much I've been able to get down relatively easy. I've also been up and walking around a lot inside and outdoors.

Honestly I was very uncomfortable for the first 5-7 days. I thought that the removal site of the port would hurt but it didn't. It was the site where they removed the stomach. Today I'm 11 days out and feeling and moving so much better. Actually just went and walked a mile. I've got to get back at it. I wasn't given anything but tylenol and flexeril to come home on. I wish you the best better days are ahead.
