  1. At my consultation they took my height, weight, bp and a full medical history. I also had a EKG and my labs were done. I met the surgeon and then the nurse also came in and they explained the procedure to me, what to expect the day of surgery and we went over the pre-op and post op diets. We also discussed my insurance and I was told I have great insurance.:lol:I was nervous going in but it was very informative to me and there is nothing to be nervous about. If you have questions make sure you write them down. I had a page full and took my dh to ask any that I may have forgot. Good Luck to you!
  2. Well I have not been banded yet. The sista who is my wight loss advocate had the procedure over four years ago. She lost 120 pounds and she said that she had very little issue with loos skin. Just a bit on the back of her arms. I know our skin can adjust and endure some things better than others, but I am worried about loose skin around my tummy and the back of my arms. So I am planning on having some things returned to there correct place if it becomes an issue.
  3. You can do it!!Focus on the positives!
  4. I have always loved to take pictures. Up until I really did not like the image on them. I could not believe that it was me in some of them. I have pictures from when I was a child, through a teenager and through my first preganancy and then for four year I have none. I begin taking them again to chronicle where I am starting from.
  5. My name is Lakeisha and I am 33. I am currently awaiting approval from my insurance and I am looking for a mentor here in Houston. I am not telling many folks what I have decided to go through becuase I have heard too many negative things. My husband and one of my daughters are the only ones that I have deicided to tell. I have been married eight years and mom to five ( two of my own and three wonderful girls from husband's first marriage) I love to read, cooking for my friends, and spending lots of time with family. I have tried all of the diets and weight loss things out there. ( atkins, weight watchers, etc) I am looking at the band as a tool, knowing I still have to do my part. :tt1:
  6. That is great news!! Septemeber will be here before you know it.
  7. Today is Saturday July 12th. I began my process back in November but I got cold feet. My personal life was a mess and I was not ready. Now here I am six months later back to the beginning. I have alreday had my lab work, EKG and weight history done. I am so done with being overweight. I want to be the fly sexy diva on the outside to match the way I feel on the inside. I want to be healthy and I am sick of hurting when I sit down, when I get up, etc...:frown: I am hoping to hear something about approval soon, that way I can begin my new life right along with my birthday.

  9. My file was submitted yesterday. I was told to call back on Tuesday to check the status. I think I am going to start calling the insurance on Tuesday instead of the center.
  10. The same thing happened when I went for my labs. The sista drawing the blood just shook her head and said " too many folks having this surgery":mad: I told her everyone was an adult and could make their own choices. Needless to say she and I said nothing else to each other. That just made me so angry! Mind your business! This is a hard enough choice to make without everyone's two cents.
  11. :embaressed_smile:Well I have a question and I can not make myself ask it face to face with my doc and hisstaff. So here goes.. Things can get a little rough sometimes in the bedroom and I wondered if there were things I should avoid so that it does not put my port in danger.:embaressed_smile: Even witgh my weight having increased, I have remined pretty limber ( cough) well dh and I are both worried that things may not be as fun as they were before. Thanks.
  12. How soon after you got approved did you start your pre-op? I have a tenative date of 8/1 and I am afraid I will not have enough time to do my diet.
  13. I just had this conversation with my husband about five minutes ago. I work customer service and I am going to use short term for one week off. I work 10 hours four days a week. I have thursdays off. So I am hoping to schedule my surgery for a thursday and start short term from that friday to the next and it will come out to about 11 days total before I have to go back to work.
  14. I am planning to use short term disability. One girl at my job had it and she was off two weeks. I am hoping to have to be off only a week.
  15. Right now I am not telling anyone except my husband. And I swore him to keep it quiet. I am not wanting to hear eveyone's two cents on the matter. When I am ready I will tell those who need to know. Mine reason is not about culture, it is just privacy. I have always been "thick" and I just want to be healthy again.
  16. My name is Lakeisha and I am 33. Born and Raised in Houston Texas. Married for 8 years. Five children ( two of my own and three from my husband's prior marriage) I work for a major retail electric company. I am sick of struggling with my weight and I have been doing that for over 18 years. I am waiting for insurance approval and hope to have a date set for August before my birthday on the 24th.
  17. I find that very odd. Ask for a detalied written explantion of what the fee covers. I only have to pay my co-pays to be responsible for.
  18. Welcome Misty! I am a fellow Texas and Houston gal as well. Sounds like you are on the right path! Good Luck!
  19. Can I get an invite please? Thanks!
  20. I am wondering myself of how that will be. My DH has already told me that he may send the kids to my in-laws. If I have not eaten I usually turn into the biggest Bi#&*h. I have learned to control it but, I know this is going to rough the first few days.
  21. I would ask your doc and see what they recommend. I was on Depo for 2 years and when I took my last shot it took almost two years for me to get pregnant with my son. My doc said the longer you have been on it, the longer it takes to get out of your system.
  22. I went in on the 3rd for the diagnostic evaluation and had my blood work done, the ekg and i submitted my five year weight history completed on this wendesday. They said we were shooting for a 8/1 date. My concern now is that I may not have time to do the liquid diet. I think I should get started just in case.
