I went the swim shirt & shorts route. I’m very fair so the more sun protection the better for me.

So I had my surgery on Monday and oh my gosh… Ouch! I’ve heard people talk about trying to get enough Water down to leave the hospital but I just needed to get off the drugs they were giving me. Everything hurt and the drugs made it hard to do anything but sleep. I’ve been home since yesterday and I feel 1 million times better. Fluids are going down pretty easily and I’ve actually managed to stay awake today which is progress for me these days.

    PREOP liquid diet UPDATE:
So I spent all day on this issue. I found some solutions on my own. The problems were:
    1. I can't tolerate the Premiere Protein Shakes (or any other shakes) because the Calcium is too high and I have high calcium already (probably hyperparathyroidism- still having labs). 2. I don't have much of a sweet tooth so shakes all day isn't fun for me—its a bit barfy. 3. I want to control how sweet the Protein liquid is, so maybe I can keep it down. 4. I want it to taste real, like something healthy, not like junk food or candy. I want a savory option also.
Ok. So here is what I found, but it involves a DIY approach. I'm going to try Forager cashew milk (I've had it- it tastes like cashews and is not sweet- it tastes healthy in a good way) plus Isopure Protein Powder (zero carbs, zero sugar), plus a sugar free Monin Syrup, because I can use just a small amount so it is gently sweet, not vomitaciously so. (like all prepared shakes, for some reason).
This accomplishes the protein in a prepared shake with lower carbs and fat and much much lower calcium, and will taste natural. I'll try this when it comes in the mail tomorrow. I'm going to use 1.25 scoops of powder, probably a tbsp of Monin Almond Syrup, and 4 oz. of Forager Cashew Milk, unsweetened with a ton of ice in the blender. I may throw in some nutmeg and a pinch of salt.

    It will be
150 calories 31g protein 2g fat 2g carbs 8% calcium 0% Vitamin C For now, I will grind up my Multivitamin and put it in there until I have to stop taking Vitamins 10 days before surgery. My surgery is on the 28th, so very soon.

I've also been trying Brodo bone broths for savory protein and liquids- they are great, but too expensive. Good to know about though.

I've also sprinked a bit of Ranch powder on some celery and asperagus (I'm allowed 2 cups veggies and 2 tbsp fat free dressing a day-- so I'm doing that-- it's pretty good, and I'm not even a Ranch person)

I'll try this smoothie recipe tomorrow. I hope it helps someone else who might have hyperparathyroidism. Obviously, check with your surgeon on this before doing it.

I had revision surgery from lap band to sleeve on July 7th. The surgery went way better than I expected it would. After surgery I had no pain, no gas and no nausea. The clear liquid diet after surgery is not bad at all thus far. I look forward to sipping on warm broth. So far I am a happy sleever and look forward to what my new skinny future holds. Good luck to you all.

Soooo…I’ve been sleeved! Overall, everything went well. I was in some pain in my abdomen when I woke up from surgery…and nauseated, too. Both of those sensations lasted for a few hours, but eventually went away (for the most part). I haven’t had much difficulty getting my fluids in. I believe I’ve consumed a total of 47 oz. since the surgery this morning. I’m just so relieved to have the surgery behind me!

Thanks Jenfs5 & Candace76 for sharing food ideas! Jenfs5–how did your surgery go? ❤️

*Headphones* for sure!! I also got an *eyemask* off Amazon that was sort of moulded so didn't touch my eyelashes like the regular fabric ones? Imagine a little face bra 🤣 it was fab for getting rest in the day. *Meditation app* really helped when I was nervous waiting to be taken down and when I woke in the night (I like Insight Timer, and listen to lots of Glenda Cedarleaf relaxation.. find someone's voice that works for you!) Also really glad I took my own *small pillow/cushion* from home in a super soft pillow case - nice to have an extra one, and was such a comfort to hold against my front on the car ride home. *Lip balm* helped a lot, and I was glad of a *second nightshirt* to feel a bit "fresher" the second day in hospital.
Once home, I liked my *wedge cushion* for sitting up watching TV and dozing, and couldn't have survived those first couple weeks without a *blender* and a *pill cutter*. If you've got cash to splash, get yourself some nice *little bowls* and a *water bottle* that you enjoy drinking from! You'll be doing a lot of that.. depending what your hospital recommend, you might also want to have a look at *clear Protein drinks* too.
I made a box like a little christmas hamper with some of the first foods I could have, nail polish, nice hand cream, which sat on the kitchen side ready for me to come home so I didn't have to look for them!
Good luck all of you July crowd!! I had an RNY on June 15th and am doing great. It can be nervewracking but this community is great for answering questions and offering support.

Hi Everyone! In my online search to find a group, I find this site. I am scheduled for the 15th, it’s coming up quick!

This pre-op diet is making me so weak, I’m on day 6 of it. My cycle came on yesterday and my cravings are out of this world! Eeeek!
