3 Meals vs. 6 "Meals"
summerseeker replied to LouLouM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had great problems eating and drinking since my surgery 24th Nov. Foaming every meal and it lasted all day and night. I was miserable. I had to stay in hospital 5 days. At about 12 days things slowly improved for me. I just drank liquids till I began to feel more confidant. I eat 5 or 6 tiny meals a day. Occasionally I struggle with breakfast because of the amount of medication I have to take. Ideally I start my day with a glass of milk, Then low fat yogurt, Then pureed thin soup. I would try to extend my diet in the early evening , Pureed Dhal or pureed avocado with smoked salmon. In the evening I love to pick on the tiniest slivers of cheese and sieved cottage cheese, I am tracking my diet and dont get 400 cals yet. My surgeon doesn't really do protein shakes and says I can catch up on the next stage If anyone could have burst my tummy It would have been me. I am fine but a little behind my peers. I am ok with this. How many cals are you getting a day ? Knowing that will help your dietitian decide what is good for you -
Anyone else depressed after surgery?
summerseeker replied to BariJen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery the same day as you. I also had a extended hospital stay [5 days] because of swelling in my new tummy making me constantly vomit up every time I ate or drank. I had a miserable 2 weeks of this and felt like a fool for putting myself through this. My family were very worried for me and that made me feel more depressed. Then I got a urine infection turning my urine bloody which meant more meds to take I rang my dietician and she said - look just take the liquid penicillin. Try and drink as much as possible. Eat broth and rest as much as you can. Taking the pressure off worked after 2 days. I have 6 tiny meals a day, 2 of yogurt, 2 of soup and 2 of sieved cottage cheese. I am much better now and can sleep laying down. My mood has lifted and I am now taking all my meds and vitamins. I will play it by ear as to progressing to the next level next Wednesday. I hope you get the break you deserve too and see a little light down the line. -
Its day 15 for me and I am beginning to feel human again. I was able to sleep lying flat instead of sitting propped up. Almost cried at the comfort. Yesterday I had 4 hours of a vomiting spell, I dont know the reason for it, I only had a small amount of thin soup beforehand. Could anyone on my time line let me know what you are eating and the amounts please. I am drinking well and dont have a problem there.

cx_wife How are you doing now ? -
No longer feeling confident about having surgery
summerseeker replied to Angelina1210's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
However well meaning your pastors wife is - She has no input you should be concerned about. She has not got all the information she needs to help you make any decision on your on or off journey. My biggest worry was that my surgery would get snatched from my grasp at the last minute. I needed it so much. I also felt it was too good to be true. In these last few days you will be more anxious, its normal and healthy. You can always postpone but you will be angry at your self. Hug yourself for me -
The first rule is never trust a fart, not pre op or in 2 years time

PreOp Liquid Diet…. Struggling hard.
summerseeker replied to cx_wife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today is my 12th day after surgery. Yes I heard it called Dramamine on TV -
Its brutal and you need to grit your teeth and get through it. I cried like a baby in my second week. I would cheerfully strangle the SOB who put me on it. I must say I directed some bad vibes his way. I did it though and would never do it again. Good luck

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)
summerseeker replied to xKirstenx's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I cant believe in yet another version of the diet. Have you tracked it calorie wise. Mine was 3 weeks and didnt get more than 800 cals a day If you have lost weight in this run up then you will already have lost your water weight. Some people dont loose weight and their liver has been reduced enough for surgery. You should have gone with bricks in your pockets to bump up your weight and gained a big loss when you needed it. It seems brutal that you are being asked to do the pre op before you need to put yourself through it for real -
PreOp Liquid Diet…. Struggling hard.
summerseeker replied to cx_wife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry I am English and we call things differently. You take them on car journeys if you are car sick. On aeroplanes if the turbulence bothers you or on sea voyages. Glad you found something that works a bit. I feel for you. Keep us posted please -

Help… I cheated on Pre-op diet TWICE!
summerseeker replied to MsTina1984's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Could you drop your serviette on your plate and quickly catch a big piece of food then it wouldnt look like you didnt eat. You can hide it back under the serviette when they collect the plate Men always think they notice things but have you ever seen a guy looking for anything in a place you told them to look ,,,, joke I did 21 days and found it hard going. I am sure its to break your old food habits. I never want to repeat it. You are giving yourself the best ever present. A little slight of hand will help. Goodluck -
My first 9 days post surgery were quite traumatising. I was not ready for the sleep depravation and symptoms of a swelling in my new stomach. I had constant foamies, all day and night for 9 days. I was honking foam like a over powdered washing machine. I have been unable to take my medicines and vitamins In a fashion all I have managed to eat/ drink is squash, broth and coffee [ I am allowed] Day 10 arrives and I feel better. I tried some well pureed ramen broth with chicken and vegetables and later that day a banana milkshake with peanut butter added. I am allowed to drink milk instead of protein shakes, just adding extra dried milk powder and to it. Protein shakes are expensive in the Uk and unless I have to I will stay on milk. I need to work on getting a breakfast into my regime. At the moment it may be another milkshake but its getting my liquid content up too. I feel like I am a week behind my peers. So I will do a week of these liquids before moving to the next staging post. I have no hunger and get full signals on so little liquid, About 4 oz. Should I continue with the soup/ milkshake at a later time ? Or call it eating over Any help gratefully received

You will know it as soon as you get it. It is over eating and in my case drinking too quickly. It causes like regurgitation of compact white foam - like bubbles. It fills your mouth and you have to spit. It doesn't stop till you throw up.
-
No I haven't but I will try to introduce some day by day but I know they will restrict my drinking time. I am so thirsty. Some of my tablets are tiny but I am a little apprehensive about them getting lodged and starting foaming again. I will have to be brave and pull up my old lady pants and get on with it.

Help… I cheated on Pre-op diet TWICE!

How lucky do you feel ? , how much do you weigh ? You are risking your surgeon opening you up and stopping the surgery. Stress will always be with you and going down the route of fast food will not get you the results you crave post surgery. Do you think you may need extra therapy ? People on this forum have cheated and gotten away with it. I have read 2 where the surgery stopped. It can be very risky with a large fatty liver. Please come back and tell us how you doing -

On this forum it doesnt matter that we live out of America. I am from the UK. We are all at some part of our lives in the same boat. Have the same hopes and fears and expectations. The best part is the people on here go back years and have so much knowledge. Its so comforting. I love raw fish, the rice is 2nd My first meal will be quality raw fish in 5 weeks. I may only eat a little bit but boy oh boy will I enjoy the experience. Good luck -
Feeling full vs feeling satisfied
summerseeker replied to Tamyj41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We will not feel the restriction until our tummies are healed and we are eating real food. There is a little search box at the top of the page, write ? Always feeling hungry .... or never feel full. There are tons of people who trod these forums before us and have all the knowledge. Apparently you will know it when you get it. You are working the program so well, a few more weeks will see you fine -
I keep making dumb mistakes and suffer for them. I had egg salad in a little ramekin and cleaned my plate as pre surgery - foamies ! we are not friends
-
Shrimp salad, crab salad. Shrimp and avocado. Thai style chicken soup, Casserole and veg. I am only 10 days out and was planning my next phase today. These were some I fancied

I am so pleased for you. I hope you have a good recovery now

November Surgery Buddies!!!
summerseeker replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got home last night after a five day stay in hospital. I had swellings and struggling still to get even liquids down. I also really struggled with the tablets getting stuck, who knew dissolved tablets are not really dissolved. I have no pain at all but am just weak and wobbly. I am glad I got everything prepared in advanced. I will need a few days more than everyone else to feel it was a good idea to go through with this -
hope you get everything sorted today. When we are vulnerable its tough to have something else to worry about . Big hugs
-
I always think being prepared for something makes the event less daunting. I read an great number of these posts going back years. All the information I needed is in them and they calmed my nerves no end. There is so much knowledge on here and no criticism. Good luck on your journey
