I got a Mary Berry cook book as a wedding present 49 years a go. I [and my family ] am eternally greatful to the lady for the simple recipes and good pictures in it. I enjoy cooking because of that thoughtful present. I don't mind Pru Leith on the show, she plays second fiddle to Paul Hollywood but I admit she needs to loosen up a bit. I do look forward to seeing what bad clothes and plastic 'jewels' she has on. Noel and Alison are a good team but she is everywhere on English TV and its a bit same old, same old zany stuff. I don't want to see her anymore for a few years. I have never seen the NZ GBBO but oh boy the Aussies have murdered Masterchef. My badge of hate goes to the one time footballer and now advert for face lifts, Gordon Ramsey. He is a proper tit. Why would you want to watch an ego that big. I would smash his unperfect face with a big cast iron frying pan for ever daring to speak to me like he does. The people on the show just need help. They should not need embarrassing along the way -

My surgeon did not agree with protein shakes so I never had them. I drank full skim milk instead. There is a lot more protein in it than you would imagine. Make your own shakes with fruit, esp banana, peanut butter, greek yogurt. I could manage PB2 powder. Good luck. -
Never be afraid to go back a stage for a few days. Make sure your food has enough sauce/gravy with it. Dry foods are the devil to eat early. Especially chicken breast. It is so difficult early on when your internal stomach stitches are swollen for food to pass through. I really struggled and ate lots of nutrient rich homemade soups and stews. I was advised to eat 6-8 times a day, very small meals. At about 3 months your real restriction will kick in and it will be easier to judge when to stop eating before the over full feeling

My mum was terrible cook. She got married in the war and the lack of ingredients didn't help. I think she hated cooking. Food at our house was the cheapest cuts and cooked without love. Not because of monetary reasons either She always had body issues, She died from cancer at 85 weighing 70 pounds. She said she always wanted to be so skinny........ She would feed us on greasy stews with dumplings. Pies. Suet puddings. Tripe. Wesel. An occasional salad in summer. My dad used to make potted meat with pork heads. He never shaved the heads so the brawn was really vile and hairy. Whatever I didn't eat was put out for my breakfast dinner and tea untill I had it all secreted away At 16 I had my Gallbladder and stones removed, the surgeon said it was my diet that caused it. He also said that I was the youngest patient for this surgery. Its hard to be angry with a dead person but it raises its ugly head now and again. -

I use this recipe but omit the oil and use 1/4 cup egg whites instead of the egg and fold in the seeds with the cheese and flour before adding the egg. Thank you, they look delicious

I have always cooked 99% of our family meals. They were healthy and full of vegetables. My problem is because I love my own cooking. I would eat a huge amount especially carbs. Oh and butter...... Oh and chocolate ....... I took me a long time to be able to eat solids after surgery, I had a swollen internal scar so I had to stick to liquids. Once my restriction kicked in at about 8 weeks I could eat soft meats and some vegetables. After that I could run with it At about 2 years out, I tried carbs again and could eat a tablespoon of rice, noodles or a slice of good seeded bread. I have left them off my menu so long that eating meals without a pile of them is no big deal. I don't miss the over stuffed feeling. I can't say this will last forever but I intend to keep a check on my calories because I am the skinny person I always wanted to be. I still have butter and chocolate in small amounts. I will watch that. -
I would love to try this recipe. Do you have the full recipe ?

Hello and welcome in the forum. There is a whole thread listed as Bariatric grief, its very worth a read. I had mine pre surgery. Anything with noodles was my thing. I had lots of Asian food funerals. I promise, it gets better. I eat everything I feel like except I cook it or it comes from a quality restaurant. I live in a part of the UK with out fast food places and the only one is a Dominos Pizza, I dislike the price £20, so would make it at home if that was my thing. I can eat a good amount of good icecream and some good chocolate, too much and I puke. I can eat a Magnum for instance. I eat Falafel with Tzatziki regularly and thats the first time I ever heard of it being off anyones menu. I bake it rather than fry it. I have had some Pad thai but its not really a thing for me anymore as I can eat so few noodles. I will go for Tom Yum or Tom Kha at our Fav restaurant. I can not eat anything ultra blitzed like Guacamole, shudder ... the puree stage has left a memory on my soul. I tried making it chunky but my brain will not accept it. All those slimming classes did have something to tell me after all. Being skinny is better than a bowl of the very best tasty noodles. Saying that .... if I could eat them I would, but not every meal, every day or week. -

TBH the smell and look of puree made me puke. I skipped it all together. I bought Heinz soups and seived the bits out. I had to go back to the last stage a few times. It gets easier when you can feel your restriction. Before that I had to rely on a runny nose or a sneeze to tell me I was full. This really is the hardest stage to master because its all new and we are so frightened to get it wrong. This forum helped me loads in this stage -

I am 3 years out this month. I track my food religiously every day. I try to eat clean and cook almost all of my food. My calories are on average 1500 a day and as this was my first trial number at maintenance, I was lucky. I don't restrict myself to diet foods. I eat full fat versions. It eat good quality food, even chocolate. I weigh myself every few days. My exercise is limited to walking a few miles, a few times a week. Oh and window shopping in town, once a week. I also stay on this site and read it almost every day as it seems to keep my focus. -

Will seriously need to try the sweet recipes. i swear I can smell it cooking with a sugary, buttery, cinnamon mix on it. I have never heard of / eaten squashes this way. Its always savory here. Always in soups or roasted. -

I just chop them in half, scoop out the seeds. Rub it with oil and garlic and add salt and pepper. I roast it in the oven, I don't own a airfryer. You can also rub it with any spice rub of your choosing, I love za'atar and it tastes delicious with mint,yogurt sauce -

OMG please do not compare yourself to anyone else, its the road to ruin. This is not a quick fix, it may take over a year to loose your extra weight. My journey took nearly 3 years. If you stick at the program you will get to the weight of your dreams. Everyone who does this surgery has a different regime to follow. Some can have solids straight away, some have liquids for 4 weeks then puree for 2 weeks. Some eat low calorie, zero sugar, zero fat etc Some of us [me] eat full fat. Some have Carbs, some of us don't [me] Some exercise, some don't. What I am trying to say is don't try to compare to the unknown. You are doing amazing. Right on track. Follow your teams regime. You are just beginning. Slow and steady wins this race. Any time now you may have a fright when you don't loose anything, your body needs these stalls to regroup. -

Hello and welcome to the forum. There is a huge piece in the forum headed - Grief after Surgery. I bet that your feeling are the same. You are better prepared than some of us, I couldn;t get therapy. I had a lot of help from this forum. -
You are very early in your recovery and your inside, stomach stitches are not fully healed. You dont want to push food that might do some damage. Do you know that you can't drink with food ? because that would push your meal straight out of your stomach. It is said that the hungry signals are false and could be too much stomach acid working on no food causing the rumblings. Some say its dehydration. It is always best to follow your surgeons regime at this time because it seems to be different from anyone elses. FYI, I was still on liquids at three weeks. It is a massive change in our eating habits and it take a while to get your head around. At about 6-8 weeks when your stomach has healed, your true restriction will kick in and you will be surprised how little you can eat. Just try to hang in there until you get the go ahead to eat meats etc again. They will stay longer in your stomach and you will feel full for longer
