  1. This is a friendly, kind, safe and helpful place. We are all really glad that we found it. I have found great help here and hope I pass some forward too. I do not know anyone personally who has had this surgery done. I did not tell anyone but my son and husband initially. Women can be really bitchy and I did not need the uneducated backlash. Now that I have lost all this weight, I am more mobile and can get out and about. I have started to grow my circle of friends. I volunteer at a charity shop one day a week, its great fun and I love it. Its great to look forwards to some thing again instead of being almost housebound

    Bloating & Gas Pains

I have really noisy burping if I have eaten to quickly or eaten carbs [ potatoes mostly] I suck a tablet called Wind Relief in the UK. I hate this uncomfortable feeling
  3. You have a staple line or stitches across your new tiny stomach, this early in your new life , you need to be careful of them. You have a way to go to heal properly. Learning how to eat again is tough. Eat with a small spoon. Slowly. Wait for the full signals. It gets easier as you go through the food stages. Then you will feel a proper restriction. I never got hungry signals just acid gurgling and churning. Some people do though. If you can manage a 1/4 cup then that sounds ok. It is only very soft food after all. It might take longer to eat fish and meats. Everyone is different, I could only manage 2 teaspoons of yogurt but I enjoyed them. It gets easier after the first week or so
  4. I had the one with low carb veg too. 3 weeks..... I roasted them, with and without spice Made them into Thai style broths with water noodles. Made them into curry, lots of curries with cauliflower rice. Made loads of veg soups and vegetable dips Had a great variety of salads with sugar/ fat free dressings I wished I knew more veggie recipes. At the end I was so over it

    Afraid to eat.

I had so much trouble with salmon, so much so that I have really stopped eating it and before the surgery it was my favourite food after noodles. I can eat smoked salmon but I hate the taste now. Potatoes are also still off my menu, I got the foamies last night after trying them again for supper. Try foods with sauce like bolognaise, chilli, braised meat and veg. If you need something softer - try chunky soups, soft scrambled eggs, ricotta bake, crust less quiche or chicken thighs lightly cooked in Pho or broth with a few veggies. Do not be afraid of eating, just go back a step, be patient with your toddler tummy. We are not all the same and you are very early in your journey PS My team said it was ok to have tiny sips of drinks [ they said hot drinks were best] PPS You wont get slated in here, we have all 'broke the rules' because every team has a different idea on any given subject

    Constant pain during work

I am going through a similar thing. I begun volunteering in a charity one day a week. Its very physical for me and entails lots of steps and carrying. I come home drained and aching all over. My calories are low, 1000 to 1200 so I run out of energy quickly and need to eat a protein bar and drink a glass of milk just to get me through. When I get home I collapse on the sofa. I need to build up my muscle mass again. I hope it will get easier in time because I love this little job

What to expect for your preop

You know the game where you guess how many gummies are in the jar ? An infinite number ? That's how many pre op diets there are. TBH I have never come across the same one twice. So its impossible to help with that aspect without knowing what yours is I can say you are lucky, yours only lasts a week. Its going to be tough but we all knew that its to shrink our livers so that they are not in the way when the surgeons operate. That's what kept us all on the straight and narrow. By day 4 you will be used to the regime and will white knuckle it to the end. I spent my time cleaning my house as a distraction. My hubby was so understanding and cooked his own meals and I stayed out of the way while he ate them. We all fear it, its the unknown. Please contact us again when you know more

    Onederland

So I did it, I got to onederland, a place I dreamt of but did not ever believe I would attain. I thought loosing 100lbs was a reach but I ran through that. I was on a super high until I wanted to change my next goal weight. The BMI doodah says that I am still in the obese range, damn. 150 to 180lbs is still classed as overweight, do I really need to get another 49 lbs off my already skinny bod to be in the 'normal' range ? What are your thoughts on a new goal weight ?

    Pain

I am assuming that you mean 4 weeks past surgery. Its such early days. Eat slow, tiny bites, wait a minute and repeat. Try and stop before you get the pains. Until you get the restriction feeling it is hard to guess when enough is enough . I got a runny nose or sneezed when I had eaten enough. Don't be afraid to go back a step for a few days. Introducing new foods to our new stomachs is like throwing a cat in a with a pack of wolves. You can guess what will happen, it may be successful but probably not. Just keep going back to the foods that your stomach objects too. Chicken took me 12 months and pasta !! well I have given up on that. Don't feel afraid, just try new things at home. Find something to do after eating, I walk, change beds or hoover, the exercise seems to shift the food and the stretched feeling gets better

    Nausea made better by eating

My twice a day PPI helped me turn the corner with my terrible nausea. I also got a wedge pillow for my bed so that I was more elevated at night. Nausea is the pits, I hope you get the nausea meds real soon

Anyone been to Pompeii in Tijuana?

Hello and welcome to this forum. You will find everyone here so supportive and helpful. As an ex smoker I know how hard it is to quit, it is worth it if you can. Good luck and go get your new you
  14. It can be a rough ride in the first few months. Be really kind to yourself, this a a big surgery and we need time to adjust to all the new things we need to learn. The anaesthetic makes you feel spaced out for a while Once I got to the liquid goals, I felt incredibly so much better. Then as @Happy with two says I came off my BP meds too. This stopped me feeling dizzy. It took me a few months to get to enough calories inside me so that I had energy to do my daily chores. I am not a spring chicken. Little by little, my calories increased and I could do more. I always carry a protein bar and a drink when I am out. At times my energy levels still drop and I get a glass of milk or a skinny latte and a protein bar to get me through. Listen to your own body, rest as much as you can, treat yourself like a princess for a while. This time will quickly pass and you will be flying along again
  15. When I started the puree stage I began getting a runny nose or sneezed when I was full. When you start real foods you will feel your restriction for sure. You have to begin to eat a lot slower so you find the restriction point for you.

    SLOWER WEIGHT LOSS

In the first 2 months I lost 32 pounds after surgery. At my size, age and disability, I knew my losses would be slower than than a fit, young person with a active lifestyle. My team told me I would l loose for 18 months to 2 years after surgery. Its a bit like the tale of the hare and the tortoise, we all get to the end of the race , some take longer than others You seem to be doing good. What does your team say?

    Worried I won't lose enough

I am a old'ish woman who has managed 141pounds so far with the sleeve. I can do very minimal exercise beyond walking and housework and one day a week working in a charity shop. I have dodgy knees. Anything I have done then you can too. I was not given a weight goal but my team were overjoyed in January when I weighed in and they did the math. I was way over the 60% expected weight loss Its your journey to better health, don't take too much notice of others. That route can be unsettling. I keep changing my goal, just to see if its possible. I dont know if I can reach 180 but to be honest, I am super happy at 199. I look fabulous now in the mirror [without my glasses on] I am amazed how good my sleeve has worked for me.

    Surgery date changed [emoji849]

Fingers crossed for you for May day. Its a holiday in the UK
  19. I am an ardent coffee drinker, never needed to give it up. For a big energy boost and because I love it, I have a large sugar free, Starbucks skimmed latte on the station every time I go to town, I live in the back of beyond so can not get Starbucks locally. I buy Iced latte's from the supermarket in summer. Life is too short to worry about the sugar in this occasional treat.

    5 weeks post op

This surgery makes our hormones go wild so that could be the answer but you should go see a doctor to be sure.

    Hair Shedding & Hair Loss

Its very scary but it does stop. Lots of us cut our hair really short to hide the loss. I dont believe there are any products that help with hair loss. I dont know if its my age but I have not gained any thickness back yet but I love that I dont have to spend hours dealing with my long hair any more

    Feeling pretty low

Yes I know how you feel, I went through this buyers remorse too. I hated cooking smells, couldn't eat, couldn't drink enough. My restriction was so extreme that until the internal swelling abated I struggled to sip water. It passed and every day after I felt better. I got a double dose of anti nausea meds and that changed my nausea slowly for the better. Take it hour by hour, day by day. Rest as much as you can. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. I promise you that soon you will feel better. Just getting to your liquid goal does make you feel so much better. It takes a while but you will get there too

  25. Different scales will always weigh differently. Just go with the one scale weight. Make sure to keep hydrated. Ring your team if you are worried I was 325 pounds on the day of surgery and a month later I had lost 31 pounds.
