Hi there, Congrats on your surgery. Give yourself an easy time for a few weeks, sleep, drink, eat and rest some more. You will soon be through the worst. Everyone on here will help you in any way we can.

Hydration is a full time job!

The sooner you can meet your goals, the better you will feel. I struggled for months to drink enough, I was so very nauseous, warm sat the best with me. I survived but felt lousy until I did the drink quota. Soon you will be able to do bigger sips and then its so much easier

    Not Allowed To Gain Weight

Ok the system is brutal, be sneaky. At your initial consultation, wear heavy clothes, sew weights into your clothes. Wear boots. Carry coins in your pockets. Wear heavy jewellery. Drink loads of liquids and try not to pee, have a full bowel...... You get the idea. It should be possible to weigh at least 15 - 20 pounds more than you actually do.

    Infection

Thankfully you had the good sense to go to the docs for antibiotics. If you feel any worse go to the hospital. Don't worry about your incision site, it will not hurt to be reopened, you will be a sleep or had local anaesthetic. Everyone having this surgery has their hormones all over the place, so feeling discouraged and depressed are quite normal. Lots of us have the ' OMG what have I done ' moment. Roll on a few months and you will be ok and super happy that you did this. Hang in there and take things as slow as you can. Hugs

    Alcohol consumption

I had a Bloody Mary at 2 months out while on holiday. I drank it slow and it was delicious. The buzz didn't last long but it was ok. Its a holiday, I would
  6. I can't imagine that you will be able to get any insurance to cover elective surgery. I isn't a typical holiday, so holiday insurance will not cover it. Ask your team

I love the symmetry of your weight lost to current weight. Such an amazing achievement in a short time

Gee why didn't I think of that!

I told my Husband and son. When I visited with my immediate family later that year I told them then. I did not want any scare stories or negativity.

    What was your “Moment” ?

Mine was a few things I was put on ' house arrest ' by the UK government during Covid. My husband had to stay inside with me as our house was not big enough to have separate areas. I thought it was because I have breathing issues, 2 years later, I realised it was because I was obese. Two years of not seeing my family, I was distraught. This indoors two years, I put on another 40 -50 pounds and made breathing really hard and exercise a distant dream. It would take me years to gain my fitness back. I lost all my confidence and began to like hiding indoors I was now Diabetic.
  12. I am so cold in the winter. I wear so many layers. My husband wears very little indoors because he can not stand the heat.

    Exercise Before Surgery

My exercise pre surgery was down to zero. All covid we were confined to the house, two years of house arrest later and I could only vacuum a room and I had to sit down. I was really worried that the Anaesthetist would say I wasn't fit enough for surgery but they passed me. I started walking very carefully after surgery and slowly gained confidence and stamina. Now with almost 150lbs off me, I gallop about. Pre covid, I used to do Aqua fit classes 3 times a week at 1 hour a time. It is so much fun and so easy on joints. I wish they had the classes in my area now

    Pureed Food Recipes

I just could not do puree, The texture was very no no to my jumbled up taste buds. I strained soup and ate soft cheese, protein yogurts and made set egg custards

    Liquids with food

Me too. One day this week my food would not shift and 3 hours later I was so thirsty. I drank. I ended up with the foamies, then I was fine

    Sleeping help

Seek the advice of your team. We are not medically trained to answer these types of questions. You may be taking some medication from your team that would react against this melatonin. You are very early in your recovery and you could easily aggravate your new stitch line in your tiny stomach.

    heartburn, nausea

We have a tiny stomach but the same amount of acid as pre surgery so this is why its an issue. I am on a PPI twice a day and antacid as needed. It helps to have a wedge under your pillows to elevate you in bed or put a book or brick under the top end of your bed. Do not eat for 2 hours before bed

    Food harder to tolerate

Yes this is a thing, I found it so wasteful. It seemed like all my very favourite foods before surgery were no go foods to me. Humous and salmon are still yuck foods to me. I have just started to eat eggs, avocado and pork. Feeling never hungry is also a thing, we all give ourselves a set time to eat each meal. My meals were tiny so I had 5 or 6 a day and a glass of milk. You will get very weak if you don't get enough nutrition, forcing ourselves to eat is a strange thing that I never had before It does get better, just give it time
  20. If you do this surgery and when you have got through the rough first weeks, you will know you have done the right thing, my diabetes, high blood pressure and breathlessness just faded away. I know your Apnoea will go soon too because many others on here suffered with it. Hold your nerves if you can, everyone is very nervous, we all jumped into the unknown and I am fairly sure we would all do it again tomorrow
  21. I was told that you are expected to loose 65% of your excess weight. Any after that is a bonus
  22. Hello and welcome in. As the above have voiced, be kind to yourself, do not rush into exercise. If you struggle with meds and vitamins, food and liquids - just do your best. You will get there. Around two weeks is when the pains subside. Hugging a pillow to your tummy when rising does help. Good healing

    Hi, I’m New! 😬

Hello and let me be the first to welcome you in the forum. I found it very helpful to read the back pages, they hold everything that you will ever need to know about the surgery and recovery. Don't read to many scare stories, its a really safe surgery.

    Weight Loss Stopped?

My losses slowed down about the same times as yours. Once I went nearly three months before I lost again. I tend to go down in blocks of 5lbs at once. I try and walk more. I am thinking of going swimming again but the loose skin is holding me back. Try and change things up a bit. Finds some new foods. Expanding my diet like being on holiday has really been good for my weight loss. I think that at some point we have to call it a day but I am sure you will go further than you are at the moment, My problem is that I am not too bothered if I stay at this weight.
