    San Antonio

Well i got approved by the unsurance company and will be having my surgery on Aug 11th!!! Can't wait:thumbup: Now that i have all that insurance crap behind me i have a whole new set of worries  Main one being what if this doesn't work for me. What if i am that small percentage that doesn't loose weight :crying:. but i guess i just keep telling my self to exercise and watch what i eat. No cheating amd it will all work out. (i hope)

    Pre-op Diet

Hi sara, i'm in San Antonio, TX, but was born in lubbock  Well for most doctors there is an automatic pre-op diet to help shrink the liver so when it's surgery time your stomach is more accesable (sp?). I would call and ask about it and if not i suppose if you wanted to just to be on the safe side you could. Usually it's an all liquid protien shake (low in surgar and varbs) for meals 2 week pre-op diet. But for sure call the doctors. Also about the food there should be a link on the left hand side of the main page that says food and nutrition that might have some high protein info.
  5. Well first off you might want to try and give your insurance a call. Find out if they cover weight loss surgery. Ask them if they require any weight history or supervised diets. It's pretty common for insurance companies to want a 5 year weight history (from doctors visits) and a 6 month medically documented supervised diet. not all require this but many do. Next don't feel disapointed if you don't find anyhthing out or they are uncooperative many insurances will try and give you the run around so don't spend to much time on this. Next try and look up to look up where the bariatric surgeons are near you. You can look that up on the inetrnet. Many if not all will have a seminar that you must go to. Take your insurance card and an ID. At the end of the seminar they most likely will take all your info including your insurance info to get you set up with a consult with a doctor. While waiting for your consult (it might be a few weeks from your seminar)the people who work for the doctor's office should call your insurance company to find out if they cover weigh loss surgery, how much, and what they require to deam the surgery medically needed. So again if when you call the insurance company they tell you they don't cover it go to the seminar and let them call you insurance company because sometimes when they call youy find out they do cover it. if it turns out you do need a 6 month diet or weight history the doctors office should help you with all that. if it's not covered you can do self pay. But i don;t know much about that. Mine was covered  Again this is my experience. Not really sure this is what you should expect. Good luck!

How long did your approval take??

depends on your insurance. i had to go a 3 moth diet/exercise thing for my insurance and i had my first appt march and just got my approval last week. no matter how long it takes i say you should stick with it. Good luck
  8. :tt1: i had been approved for about 4 days but just got my date today:tt1: Aug 11th! it's a late surgery time. 4:00 pm and i have to be there at 1. So that means i have to stay overnight at the hospital i really didn't want to but my doc only does evening surgeries. Oh well small price to pay for something that has taken me 5 months to get  Good luck to akk the auggies out there
  9. I am trying to set a date for my surgery. i am wondering if the day after surgery i will be able to attend a class for about an 1 and 1/2 hours? i won't be driving myself and all i need to do is sit there. If not by the next day will i be able to handle it by the second day? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks so much!
  10. Ebeth thanks you so much for the quick reply !!! i will definitaly keep you posted
  11. i did my diet program with the people i am geting the surgery with and they made it pretty affordable becaus they new so many people had to do it, i was charged 18$ a visit. my exercise classes were a bit more 45$ for 1 visit and i had to go once a month for 3 months. more expensive but still affordable. And i am sure when you go to the seminar you can ask if they theselves offer any diet or exercise classes.
  12. well i have never heard of anyone getting around it. It's their way of making you jump thru hoops so that you might give up and decide not to have the surgery. it sucks but it goes by faster then you would expect. Don't let them keep you from getting what you want.

    Approved

i have been on this site many times and have posted a few times but never told my story. I felt like i might jinx myself if i did this too soon. I live in san antonio tx and am 25 years old. i first started this process in feb and just found out today when i called humana ppo that i was approved. :thumbup:I had to do a 3 month diet and 3 month exercise course:sleep:. I had all the paper work turned in on tues and they actually sent the letter of approval out yesterday so it only really took 2 days for the approval . i am so excited about this. i hope to get the surgery done in aug in between my summer and fall classes. i wish everyone out there luck in their process and don't give up even if you hit a bump or 2 in the road:smile2:
