    Painful Port Incision

Most my pain if not all comes from the port site. Are you still taking your pain meds? i am just for my port pain. i also think people expect to be pain free and healed very fast b/c it is a laproscopic surgery but i say give yourself at least 2 weeks before feeling 100&. Because, laprocopic or not we still had a major surgery with a foreign object now placed in our body. Give youself time to heal.
  2. i just got banded on mon and now i have the hiccups. Not small ones either. i am a bit worried, does that cause band slipage????? it doesn't hurt but it does cause a very odd sensation.

    Hiccups and band slip????

    ok.. willtry... thanks
  4. so my surgery date was mon the 11th and today is the fist day i don't feel bad! thank god!!! almost no pain... just some soreness and i can deal with that. Still keeping down all my liquids with not one instance of vomitting ! and for anyone who didn't read my post right after surgery here it is. just so everyone can know what they might feel like after surgery: well i had my surgery on aug 11th and here i am. i did it! but let me tell you my experience because all i read about in this site was how painless and drug free this postop time is. now don't get me wrong i don't regret my getting the band at all. :wub:for some reason i just remember reading about how some people only needed their pain meds once. Not me! When i first woke up was the worst part of it. I wasin pain and i could hardly move and yet they were asking me to roll around for an x-ray! :mad2:the sholder pain is the worst. i think i remember people saying it's b/c of the port but whatever the reason my left side hurts and makes it hard for me to breathe. now as long as i take my pain meds i can knock out and just sleep through the pain. Now i hope not to scare anyone and again i don't regret it. just telling it like it is. :cool2: on a better note i have been drinking Water and beef broth with no probs of nausea. juat a little nausea due to the anesthesia first day post op. again i hope i don't scare anyone:blushing: but maybe for those who are thinking they might be back to normal 2 days out.... well just don't plan on it because we are all different.
  5. thanks for every one who has responded! I feel even better now then i did this morning the only thing is i hiccup and it.... well it doesn't hurt but it is an uncomfertable feeling  plus i hope it doesn't cause band slipage:sad:

    banded 8/5/8

oh man! i am drinking that protein water and it is soooooooooo SWEET  i have to dilute it with my water. Also you might want to look into getting some "protein shots" from GNC. i have also seen them in walmart. They are in what looks like a plastic test tube about 9 inches long. Go to GNC and ask for New whey liquid protein.

    Lap Band vs. Realize

well i can tell you what my doctor told me. the diff bt. the lap band and the realize band is like comparing a chevy and a ford. Maybe tha helps. but i do hear that the online benefits that comes wih the lap band is very helpful and there might be a diff. in how much saline the band can hold. hope this helps. if not call someone at the doctors office. they should be ablt to explain. GOOD LUCK

    Humana PPO

oh yeah well i can say this for sure that the pain is much better day by day :Banane37:. Well as far as the drinking part i was given ice chips and water about 2 hours after surgery. (the nurse offered me a diet soda but as far as i know we aren't supposed to have anything carbonated so i just didn;t drink it). the water stayed down with no feelings of nausea. I only got a lil nausea when i stood up to walk up and down the hall which was about 3 1/2 hours post op. my surgery was schedualed for 8am and i was out by 2:30 ish. Now i am drinking water. and i mix in some of that kelogs potein water to get some protein. My insicions are doing well except for 1 that is well sorry if this is TMI but it's ight under mt breast and it kinda is rubbing on it. I just put a paper towel on top of it to prevent running. no gas problems but i been using the gas-x strips just in case. i take bout 2 a day. as far as home i live with my parents but really i can do everything for myself. i showered the next day after surgery but immediatly took something for pain. i do work but i have 2 weeks off before i go back to work or school :sleep2: oh yeah andi don't have any children but if i did i wouldn't be able to care for them much. i have pretty much just beenlaying around on the couch for the last 2 days. oh and also it is painful to sleep laying down so i have been sleeping on the couch sitting up. i have heard people say it is very comfertable to sleep in a recliner.

    Humana PPO

for my insurance i had a choice between a 6 month diet or a 3 month diet plus exersice(sp?). the 3 month one option meant i had to pay a littlemore because i had to go see 2 seperate people but it was worth it to speed things up. After my paperwork was turned in i called the insurance company to see if i was approved and it only took 3 days from when they received the papers. got the official letter about 7 days from when they received the paper work. As far as does it hurt i am gonna copy a post i meade today about just that : well i had my surgery on aug 11th and here i am. i did it! but let me tell you my experience because all i read about in this site was how painless and drug free this postop time is. now don't get me wrong i don't regret my getting the band at all. :wub:for some reason i just remember reading about how some people only needed their pain meds once. Humana PPO

hey there! i'm in san antonio tx :Banane37: i have humana ppo and was approved!!!! i just had surgery aug 11th :sleep2: As far as for the psych consult it's just kinda like common sense. don't sound like you have any psych probs or like you have unreal expectations from this surgery and that this is not a quick fix but more a tool to be used along with a healthy diet and exersize. good luck and feel free to ask me any questions :crying:

    UTI before my surgery

well i may have some info to give you. i was banded on aug 11 and i did my preop labs including a urinalysis on july 28. Well i wasn't told until 15 min before i was rolled into the surgery room that i have "bit of a UTI". The nurse said it didn't matter b/c the anibiotics they put into the IVbag should take care of it. good luck :crying:

    First day after my op

well the difference between clear liquids and any other type of liquid diet is the fact that a clear liquid is thin. so thin you can see thru it. hence the name clear liquid. So one of the main points of the clear liquid diet is to keep anything put into the stomach thin because a thin liquid has less of a chance of getting stuck or irritating and causeing vomitting. (vomitting could cause a band slip) so i am betting that the optifast is a fairly thin liquid and if not just add some water to it. But in the end it is always safest to call your doctor and ask why am i not on a clear liquid diet. good luck

    Hi! I'm Paula from Texas...

well i am from san antonio tx and just wanted to say good luck to some fellow texans
  21. hi there. well i am sorry about your situation and maybe i can give you some advice. Well if you are just 1 week post op i figure your diet is mostly liquid. And if what you are digesting is all liquid them i am afraid so will your (for lack of a better word) poop. Your poop might become more solid when you start intruducing some food with some bulk to it. Now as far as the gas from what i have read on this web site is that it can stay in your system for up to 2-3 weeks. I have read on this website it is due to the surgeon putting air in your stomach during the surgery. i have heard that there are these gas-x strips that dissolve in your mouth that help ( i just stocked up on some for my surgery) or others have said that any anti-gas medicine might work. well good luck! i hoped this has helped a little.
  22. hi there! well i was thinking of having the surgery during my summer courses but i decided to wait until the week break bt summer and fall semester. i think that you will be able to do school right after this surgery but the only thing i will tell you to prepare for are the probs i have read that others have had the fist 2 days post op. many complain of nasea, weakness, and well diarreah. now we are all diff and hopefully and most likely you won't have to deal with all these probs. I have read that manypeople were up the next day. the only other chanllange is that it might be painful to drive. some people are so sore it hurts to hit the break. again these are just some not all people. Just be prepared and good luck. :w00t:

    Just the Begining!

well really it depends on your insurance. some insurances require a 6 month doctor surpervised diet. i only needed a 3 moth diet and exercise for my insurance. I had my first meeting with the doc in march and was pproved in july and my surgery date is aug 11th. Some other insurances only want a 5 year weight history and no pre op diet. Now if your self pay i have heard it can take as little a 1 month. so it really depends insurance. good luck!

    Got my referral letter

i don't have any co-morbs but i have a bmi greater than 40. My insurance paid b/c of my bmi being over 40. Most insuraces say you need to be a bmi of 35 with 2-3 co-morbs or just a bmi greater than 40 and it will be covered.
  25. Have you gone to the San Antonio thread? if you look on the left side of the page click on the part that says local lap band support groups. You can find a link to texas then to san antonio. I think i have seen his name thrown around a few times. I am having my surgery with Dr. Duperier with New Dimensions.
