Awesome! Whatever you decide to "celebrate" with, be sure it is protein-based, moist (don't try eating dry foods) and very small portions. I've found that my tastes have changed dramatically, and foods I love and looked forward to eating don't taste good. In some ways this is a benefit since I don't feel like "cheating." In any event, start slowly and stick with the Protein first then veggies, fruits (go slow) and maybe hold off on complex carbs for another couple weeks.

Hi all, 1 month post surgery today, I've lost 40 lbs overall , 20 since surgery. I've been experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall, its frustrating but not unexpected with all the forums about it out there. I started riding my bike again, I don't like walking and started a at home exercise regime. Doing yard work is my best exercise! I'm trying to get more than 600 calories a day, it's tough when I'm not hungry, I've been focusing on getting Protein. I don't miss my Diet Dr. Pepper habit, which i thought would be the hardest part. food selection hasn't been too bad, I do like the ricotta bake, I add shrimp and mushrooms. sugar free Jello for Snacks and tons of yogurt. I can start regular foods next week but I don't expect I'll be getting too adventurous until I get further out. . I've had a few colleagues ask me if I've lost weight as my face they see on Teams calls is much thinner, I've told a few and not ashamed by it. We booked a trip to Nassau, Bahamas next month and I look forward to not being the beached whale. Hope you all the best, John..

I always think you should listen to your body—pain is an indication that you need to take it easy for a few days. I am 23 days post op, and I tried playing golf on Monday—it hurt so bad, and It exhausted me. I am going to give it a few more weeks before I try again. I am not an expert on depression, so I don’t want to give you advice on that—except I will say, it seems to be common in bariatric patients. If it doesn’t go away or gets worse—call your doctor. In any case, take it easy and don’t be too hard on yourself!

So I am post op +5 days, and have not had anything close to flavorful for several weeks until thinned potatoes! I've discovered they were serious when told not to take in too much, so recommend taking it slow and thinning potatoes with chicken broth (and eating with a small toddler spoon!). They taste like heaven after the past few weeks!

My stage 2 (days 4-14 from my 3 sessions with the dietitian shows this for grains/starches: "Cream of wheat thinned, cream of rice thinned, thinned mashed potatoes, all thinned with fat free milk or broth". I like the broth. There's not much else on the 4-14 list other than something called liquid Gelatin. Still trying to figure out if that is microwaved Jello or what! I'd call and ask, as you need something beyond liquids to quell the hunger.

Just make sure not to over-do it the first two days. Mine was like yours; didn't feel like much was done, but I found out jostling in the car really made me sore later. Walk when you can, but lay off car rides as much as possible for a few days! Lesson learned

My surgery was May 20th and went well. They told me going in that I needed to get there 2 hrs before surgery to go through paperwork and get prepped, then 1 hour for surgery (gastric sleeve) and 4 hrs of observation post surgery. They want to make sure you can walk a couple laps around the nurse station post op, and can drink at least 8+ of the 1 oz cups of Water and ice cubes. At that point they discharged me and we were outta there.

Looking for other May 2021 folks to share the journey with! I'm scheduled for May 5th and start my liquid diet in just a few days. Anyone else on/around the same time? What kind of pre-op diet do you have? I admit I'm super nervous about how I'm going to manage the next couple of weeks and keep up my energy at work.

Hello everyone, as I stated before I was scheduled for surgery today so I wanted to provide an update. I came in at 8:45am was scheduled to come a 9:30am did all my pre surgery stuff. Need to get 2 IVs nurse could only find one. The second one was place in while I was in surgery. I went to surgery around 11:50/12. When I came to it was almost 3pm. My stomach was kinda in pain but nothing extreme. I was giving a pain medicine n it was better. I kept falling asleep and waking up. After maybe 2 hours I came to my room and ask can I walk, I handsome doctor said sure. I walked a good distance with no assistance. I came back to my room and now laying down. I am so confused because it doesn’t feel like I just had surgery my stomach just feel weird not really pain more like discomfort. But for the most part everything went well. I don’t know how I am up like nthg happen.

Had gastric sleeve on the 20th so 5 days out. 3 hours before surgery my doctor had me take a medication to lessen nausea post-op and boy did it work. No nausea this whole time, I had to pick up at my pharmacy a few days before and I took it on the way to the hospital. It’s named emend and it was $42 for one pill but so worth it. It’s prescribed for chemotherapy patients for nausea but I guess a drug rep talked my doctor into trying it out on bariatric patients. He can’t say enough about how this drug has helped lessen or eliminate entirely nausea issues post-op
Anyone else here prescribed this drug?
