    Morning all,
Today is my surgery day. Just got dressed in my super cute surgery gown, lol. So far, feeling calm. Not nervous actually. But hungry! First time. But, it's due to my own issue. I was so focused on drinking extra Water that I forgot to drink my last Protein Shake. Nurses getting me ready are great.

Hi @Newlyfe2021 I was sleeved 3/31 and I had no nausea AT ALL. And barely any pain. I don’t know how rare that is, but I just wanted to let you hear a non-horror story!

I'm kinda torn about it...I do feel the same as you Zury G, that kinda 'What? I wasn't good enough when I was heavier?' thing but I also know people comment with good intentions! And it is really nice to see that your hard work is being noticed.
That being said, there was a good article I read recently where it was suggested that we as a society should get into the habit of complimenting people in a non-weight based way. The author had actually enthused to an acquaintance she had not seen in quite a while that she looked so wonderful "Wow - you have dropped a lot of weight, you look terrific" and the acquaintance responded something like "Thanks, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago and that's why I have lost weight".
I know..it's all hard to navigate, we are damned if you do, etc. As I said, I just try to remember the intention behind the comments and honestly, it is almost always meant with sincerity and admiration!

I'm fine giving people a number. I'm proud of that number!! But it makes me feel uncomfortable when they tell me "You look great". I appreciate it, but like you, It makes me wonder what I looked like before. I usually come back with, Thanks, the important thing is I feel great!

When there is a change, and it appears that you are doing it intentionally, people are going to compliment you! Just like if you get a new haircut, everyone will say "I love your hair" but it doesn't mean that they thought your old hair was ugly!
The only time I don't like a compliment is when it's followed by "how much have your lost?" b/c I don't want to tell them! LOL!! I don't want people doing the math and figuring how much I used to weight! I'm usually vague, play dun, or outright lie! LOL!!
    Best of luck to you!!!

Yeah, I cant wait for this to be my problem. lol. I do hate when people comment on my weight but for me it's usually my mom saying I've gained weight or to say I look smaller when I know its not true. I can't wait for it to be true! I'm losing now but I don't look much smaller than I did before.

I will say that I do not believe you are "too sensitive." Feel how you feel! Women (including me) often dismiss our feelings with phrases like that. Instead, I find it helpful to examine why I feel that way.

Congrats on completing your requirements! We're in the same boat but I still have a couple of nutrition classes and pulmonary visit to complete. It's exciting and nerve-wracking going through this process, but I'm so ready! Good luck and I hope you get your date soon!

Hi Everyone! New to the forum. Decided after years of being overweight and uncomfortable in my own body, to finally take care of me. Have had all my pre-op testing. Passed everything with no issues. Hoping to hear from pre-op coordinator on my surgery consult date next week. Would love to get surgery scheduled by the end of April!

    Me Too!
And same as you, I hadn't been in the office in about 8-9 months (was at a client site) and when I went to a team lunch after losing 120 lbs, my boss didn't even bat an eyelash. The others at the table tried to follow his lead, but their eyes were visibly bugged out. My boss was cool as a cucumber, and just said, when I walked up to the table, "So good to see you! It's been a while." ❤️
...and for the the first time in many, many months, I had a nice meal without anyone talking about me, my weight, what was I eating, etc. etc . It was just lunch. And it was nice.

Thank you everyone so much for the positive messages and wishes! The first 24 hours were honestly kind of brutal. I was incredibly nauseous and just kept dry heaving and throwing up. I was afraid I was going to injure my sites or my stomach. The hospital staff was incredible though and tried all sorts of different medicines to help me out.
I came home the next day and was dry heaving once, but I haven’t again. I’ve been doing my best to get in all of my Water, I’ve been walking a few times a day and doing the breathing exercises.
The only issue I have now is I’m nervous to move onto drinking broth or Protein water as I’m worried that the bold flavors might make me nauseous again... I think I just need to get over the fear of that happening again. Other than that, my biggest incision site is kind of sore, but I have just been icing it. Hopefully the worst is past me, and I’m still so grateful to have done it!

I talked to my gynecologist about this surgery and he said he has known sooooo many women to have it and even those who have experienced complications still are glad they went through with the surgery. It would be interesting to know if that’s the same case with the community here.

I feel this, especially with people where there has been a history of harmful focus on your body and fat shaming. I am proud of myself for having the courage to take the steps to get WLS, the resilience to do the hard work involved, and the self-love to prioritize my own well-being. Unfortunately, many people in my life would miss all of these aspects that I find worthy of pride and focus on praising me for getting skinny. I don't want to be the recipient of this kind of praise and while I will enjoy many aspects of being smaller I don't want to hear praise for my smaller body at the expense of my bigger body. I want both to be shown love.

Welp, I have my surgery date. God willing, I will have my procedure on July 26, 2021. That gives me time to get ready and also have a little more tenure on my job (I just started in January). I paid my first 10% deposit today (fully-refundable as long as I give 30 days' notice of cancellation).
The doctor warned me that my stomach might not be completely flat, it might retain some roundness, which made me laugh. I'm not expecting a six-pack or anything, I just want to get rid of some of this bulk! Just being able to put on a one-piece swimsuit without a skirt will be monumental!
