  2. Start pre-op: 112 kg / 247 lbs
    Surgery: 108 kg / 238 lbs (- 9lbs)
    1 mo: 99 kg / 218 lbs (- 20 lbs)
    2 mo: 93,5 kg / 206 lbs (-12 lbs)
    3 mo: 87 kg / 192 lbs (-14 lbs)
    4 mo: 84 kg / 185 lbs (-7 lbs)

I started at BMI 35 so my weightloss has not been as fast as others, but I'm happy with it.

I'm almost 5 months post-op right now, so I don't have more data. I'm just a few pounds away from a healty BMI and my weightloss has definitely slowed down. I've also been struggling since the holidays. Have been eating more crap than I should. Having trouble getting back on track. Would ideally like to get down to 70 kg, but I can't even remember ever being that weight, so I honestly don't even know if that's a realistic goal.

  3. I paid privately (in Belgium) and literally had one visit with the surgeon (lasted about 10 minutes) and one meeting with a dietician (lasted about 5 minutes). And that’s it. Choose which surgery I would want and picked a surgery date.
Since I had quite a low starting BMI (35.5), I didn’t have to do another appointment with the dietician. Other people had to record their eating for a week and discuss that with the dietician. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Leading up to the surgery I also had to do some bloodwork through my GP. But that’s it. Got a leaflet explaining the pre-op diet and that’s it. 😅
I already knew everything I needed to know since I did lots of research myself, so I didn’t really mind all of this, but it did seem quite weird to me, compared to the hoops people have to jump through for insurance.
One advantage of being self payed was that at my hospital they always do the self-pay patients first, so I was actually first of the day and done by 9 in the morning. 👍🏻

I’m two days shy of being 15 weeks po and I’ve lost 70 pounds (32 kg)

I am so proud of myself 😃🥺

I can hardly believe it! I can almost taste the 99 kg mark, if I keep losing at this rate I’ll reach it mid January!

    That’s awesome! Great job!

I’m almost 4 months post op and have lost 23 kg (50 lbs). My BMI is now 27.4. Only 8 more kgs (~17lbs) till I’m in the healthy range. I can’t believe it. I can’t remember the last time I was this weight. 😃

  5. I have been on 6 meals a day from day one. Usually about two of these meals are something like a Protein Shake or yoghurt. I think for Bariatric patients about 5 to 6 meals a day is the most common around where I live. I personally love it. I eat every two to three hours and therefore are never really hungry. Also I wonder how people get their Protein and calories in on only three meals a day. I’m 14 weeks out and eating 800-900 kcal a day (85g protein). I don’t know how I would be able to get in in only three meals?! Also I read that your body can only process about 20-30 grams of protein at a time, so I like to spread it out throughout the day.

Just make sure you’re committing to the meals and don’t start grazing.

  6. The bruising lasted about two weeks around one of my scars.
When everything was healed (around 4 weeks post op) I started using silicone scar tape. I am now almost 16 weeks post and they look a lot lighter already. I plan to use the scar tape till about 6 months post op (for new scars, at least 3 months is recommended I think).

  7. It’s impossible to predict. I’ve lost about 50 pounds now (5ft9-195lbs) and have lost maybe one pants size. I blame the stretchy jeans though. I think I used to wear them too tight and now they’re kind of loose, so it may be more than one size, but I still have a lot of older jeans in my closet that I still don’t fit, even though I’m at the same weight I was back then. I think my weight has been distributed differently over the years. Hopefully the inches will start coming off quicker now that I’m getting closer to a healthy BMI

  8. I’m 2 months post op right now and losing about 2 pounds a week. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. I’m fine with that. Pre-surgery I would lose the same amount a week on a 1500kcal diet, but I would be struggling mentally to stick with the diet. Now I’m having no trouble at all sticking to my Protein and kcal goal.

  9. I think ‘a lot’ is a good answer to give. I honestly can’t think of something better to say. In the past I’d sometimes say I didn’t know exactly, just to avoid further questions.
Thinking about is, it’s actually really rude to ask someone how much they’ve lost or how much they still have to lose. Fortunately most people just compliment me. I do get an occasional question asking how I’m losing the weight. I’ll answer that I’m eating less, eating more frequent and doing low carb (which is not a lie).
I do get comments on how little I’m eating sometimes from colleagues (“Are you only eating Soup? Again?” (I was still in puréed and soup was easy!)). Those I find really hard to dodge. Sometimes I’ll take twice the amount of food with me and just leave half, just to avoid any questions. I’ve also gotten non see through plastic containers, so they can’t see the amount of food in my container unless standing next to me. Oh, the struggles keeping wls a secret, lol.

  10. Based on my personal experience, you’ll be able to do most things by yourself. Make sure you clean your house thoroughly before the surgery and get all necessary groceries. I didn’t do any laundry or clean the house the first week. I also was afraid to walk our 200 pound dog the first few day, just in case he’d pull on the line very suddenly. But other than that I did everything myself. Even went home alone the day after surgery (about 4 hours public transportation to a different country).
After about 5 days I felt good enough to do groceries, walk the dog and do some cleaning. But again, this was my personal experience.
    Best of luck to you!

  11. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Sounds like you’re doing fine. Maybe only weigh once a month or every two weeks, just so you won’t get disappointed every time. If you do want to add some exercise on your days off, I would suggest something like swimming. But mostly I would suggest weight training. By adding more muscle, you’ll burn more calories and it’s just better for your overall health. Maybe start with your upper body?

  12. Every surgeon requires a different pre-op diet. Mine wasn’t even a liquid diet, just Protein based. I had to buy a ‘Bariatric box’ that included things like chicken nuggets, bread, pancakes, Soups and Desserts. I had to eat 6 meals a day and every meal was different. It was absolutely awesome. I was never hungry (even though the meals were only 80-100 kcal per meal) and most things tasted really good. But like I said, every surgeon has his own pre-op diet. My surgery was in Belgium.

  13. I mix unflavored Protein Powder with a little bit of flavored powder. Takes the sweetness down a lot. My unflavored powder has kind of a weird taste when I only mix that with milk/water/yoghurt, but when adding a little bit of flavored powder, it masks that weird taste and gives it just enough flavour/sweetness. Try it!
I can’t recommend any brands since I live in Europe.
