  1. Wanted to agree with this. Just because labs are showing 'normal' doesn't necessarily mean that's the normal for your body. Lab tests have a normal range and your body may function better at the higher end of normal. B vitamins from what I understand are water soluble so if you take an excess it will exit your body in your urine and thus its difficult to take to much. Definitely try to increase your iron even if it's slightly low. I'm not sure what thyroid tests you had ran but if it was only a TSH you may need more in depth testing. There are a variety of antibody tests that most doctors won't run unless its requested and thyroid issues can hide behind normal results of just the basic tests. I would also experiment with your diet, add more fat, more carbs, even more sugar (within reason) and see how that makes you feel. Carbs can be brain food and if you are super restricted it may result in some of these symptoms. Don't give up, I hope you find something that helps you feel better!
  2. I'm sure this varies greatly from program to program. I doubt anyone can answer that for you outside of your specific surgeon and program. Hopefully you hear something soon!

    Little struggles

I'm six months out and still struggle with eating slow enough when I'm on my own. I find the social aspect of eating with others helpful for pacing, or even if I'm alone at my desk at work I take pauses to do things (ie I'm eating lunch right now) but my last meal of the day in the evening when I'm alone I tend to just go too fast and make myself sick. Trying to work on being more mindful though.

    Hungry

Hot broth was amazing for savory cravings during pre-op. If he's making dinner, I'd try that. It's a tough period and you'll still be hungry but somethings something nice and salty instead of all the sweet stuff is a much needed reprieve. You'll be on the other side soon enough!
  5. Anyone get married while still in the weight loss time frame and purchase a wedding dress? I'm getting married in May of next year, almost exactly one year after my sleeve surgery. I need to choose and order my dress as soon as possible and I'm not sure what to do about the size. I'm currently a standard size 12/14 and so far in the dress I like best a bridal size 18 fit almost perfectly. However, I have no idea how much more weight I may lose in the next six months. I know dresses are easier to size down than up in alterations so I'm afraid to order even a size down in the case that I don't lose any more weight. Anyone been through this? Or in general have thoughts or words of wisdom? I'm already on a tight timeline with a short planning phase and worried if I need serious alterations it's going to be impossible or incredibly expensive. ugh.

    Wedding dress size?

Thank you! I have an appointment with my surgeon next week so I think I'll ask for his best estimate on what my continued loss will look like. And you're right a conversation with the tailor would probably be my best bet on how to order. Hopefully between the two of them I can make a good decision.
  7. I 100% also read every page of this thread during my post op diet 🤣. I also spent an unreasonable amount of time looking at food videos on tiktok. That post op mind hunger is real.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I'm about 58lbs down since surgery and 80lbs overall since I started looking into WLS. I just crossed into Onederland yesterday and hopefully will stay there. I've recently been stalled for about 3 weeks which was incredibly frustrating but dropped yesterday and today so hopefully regular progress will be resuming again. I really need to get the gym more often and increase my exercise. The goal for success my dietician set was 180-200lbs so I'm technically within that but I would personally like to get down to 175 maybe even 150 if I can. I'm hoping to start trying to conceive this coming summer after I hit my 1 year mark and get cleared by the surgeon and I'd like to be as low as possible when that happens to avoid gaining too much back. Stalls are so hard on your head but I'm really hoping things move along again now.
  9. Italian seasoned chicken with a balsamic sauce, roasted Brussel sprouts and potatoes. My meat is cut up toddler sized because I split my chicken with my son and it’s just easier to precut it all lol. I forgot how much I love brussel sprouts.
  10. I can't offer assurances but I can commiserate. I was sleeved 5/12 and am very much in the same boat. My weight has remained pretty steadily the same for the last 3 weeks approximately. So frustrating especially because I'm soo close to being under 200lbs. And similarly I'm feeling less restriction and getting hungry more often. I'm trying to eat more slowly as that really helps with feeling the restriction. But I'm mostly just trying to stay on course and hope my body will eventually move forward. I'd hate to think I hit the end of the road at only 5 months. I see my surgeon in a few weeks for a 6 month follow up so perhaps he will have some advice. Good luck!
  11. I consider mine the weight I was at the appointment that I decided to explore WLS. For me it's also my highest recorded weight outside of pregnancy.
  12. My team was pretty adamant about measuring by volume only, specifically telling us not to use a scale. You'll find with a lot of foods that you'll get more by weight than volume. I often eat the greek light and fit yogurts that come in a 5oz container so I like to use that container as a frame of reference. They told us around 6oz by volume for meal so I try to visualize if I could fit my meal into that container.
  13. I'm only on the second box since surgery. I would say I enjoy them about the same so far though. I typically opt for the carb smart options since they are more in line with what I should be eating. There are definitely recipes that I would have chosen before and cannot now but I still enjoy the 'healthier' options. A meal intended for 2 adults will generally feed myself, my fiancé and my toddler and sometimes still have leftovers depending on the recipe. We get in ruts with cooking so I like having different recipes to change things up and nights where I don't have to plan anything. Hello Fresh lets you skip weeks as often as you want so it's pretty low pressure.
  14. Salmon with a Dijon chive sauce; zucchini and potato wedges from a hello fresh box. I had half a salmon portion and probably quarter or less portion of the zucchini and potatoes and didn’t finish that.

    Hospital Bag

I was in for approximately 24 hours. I way overpacked. I honestly did nothing but snooze and try to sip for the entire stay. Didn't even turn the TV on until the last hour I was there waiting for discharge. I used my phone and charger, comfy clothes for the ride home, hair brush for when I left, and I brushed my teeth a couple times because my mouth felt filmy and gross but I used the toothbrush they provided for that. I don't think I even took my toiletry bag out while I was there. I was not allowed to shower for a day or two after I believe. Assuming everything goes smoothly the time will go quickly and you'll be home before you know it.
  16. First and foremost I understand that stalls happen and patience is required. I'm only 4.5 months post so I know my journey is unlikely to have stopped this early. That being said I'm at a weight I've gotten to before when I've been successful with dieting. Twice prior to surgery I was able to lose 40-50lbs and get down to right around 200lbs and then that's typically when I started to regain. So I do think this is a bit of a set point for my body. Is there anything to do in a stall beyond waiting it out? Increasing protein, decreasing carbs? Or is it best to just stay the course and let my body do it's thing? I think it's extra frustrating being so close to one-derland and not being able to get over the tipping point. 😫

    Hydration

I'm bad at remembering to sip sip sip all day like is recommended. So I'll instead set goals for myself like within the next half hour I'll drink my entire 12oz bottle of Gatorade zero. And I'll go through the day drinking bigger chunks every so often instead of constantly sipping.
  18. I took my toddler to a local amusement park for the first time yesterday and was able to fit in all the kiddie rides with him!

    Irregular periods

Yes this is normal, I had a very similar experience. I got my first period then a small break then another one that lasted for what felt like forever. It was more like light bleeding for about 2 weeks. By the time my next cycle came around things leveled out and have been back to normal since. I would give it another cycle or two to even out then reach out to your surgeon or gyno if you feel you are excessively bleeding.
  20. Can you provide an example of a typical day of eating? This may help people to pinpoint some advice. Speaking in general terms I was told my team that 6-8oz per meal is the maximum quantity I should be consuming. Even years out I was told not to surpass 1 cup in volume at a sitting. A calorie is a unit of energy, only a finite amount exist in a piece of food. Your body can fail to absorb the energy if the food were to pass right through but I don't think it can create extra in a given piece of something. Perhaps your doctor just meant you have a slower metabolism and your body doesn't burn the energy off the same way as others may.

    Fantastic! Congratulations!

    Family event

Came to say the same thing. People don't notice or care. I do the same thing, take a bit of everything, eat what I want and toss the rest. Luckily I also have a toddler to share with so truly no one notices.

    Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass

I take zoloft, my dosage has not adjusted at all. I've had no adverse effects or changes. I only take 50mg if it makes a difference.

    May Surgeries - check in!

Here is a random day in my log: Breakfast: 1/2 a scrambled egg, 1 turkey sausage link, 1/4 biscuit snack: premier shake lunch: 1/2 seared tuna salad snack: coffee with milk, a bite of a donut dinner: 2-3 oz grilled chicken with grilled veg 1/2 ear corn on cob so this totaled 633 calories, 69g protein, 37g net carb and I had about 64oz water. And honestly I probably ate another snack after dinner that I forgot to log so it may have been closer to 800 calories. I always have 1 protein shake a day and that's half my protein needs so it's easier to get the other 30g through food. My hunger levels vary so some days I may only eat 600 calories and some days it's over 1000.
  25. My pre-op diet was one of the less restrictive ones. It was shake for breakfast, mid morning high protein snack, shake for lunch, afternoon high protein snack, dinner is 4-6oz lean protein, veggie and small carb if you want it, if still hungry another protein shake for after dinner snack (I generally skipped this). High protein snacks included hard boiled egg, jerky, lunch meat, string cheese, 2-3oz lean protein, greek yogurt etc. Basically at least 10g protein and less than 200 calories. It worked out to around 1000-1200 calories per day, 80-100g protein and less than 100g carbs. Definitely less restrictive than all liquids but I still lost around 10-12lbs I think and it was livable. Something like that may be easier to stick to since it's not enforced by your program.
