I've been lurking but wanted to post on this. I had my VGS on 6/21. The first couple of weeks I was having hunger pains too (literally). Everything sounded good, even stuff I don't normally eat. I also had that period of "panic" that maybe I would be miserably hungry for the rest of my life but it got much better. I get the hungry stomach feeling sometimes but not intense - will usually pass if its not time to eat.

Did you ask for a PPI, sometimes it's acid reflux, and medication can help?
And sometimes it's hunger, prior to this episode were you getting in all your Protein goals, and liquid goals? Your body is in a deficit compared to your prior caloric intake
We need more info in order to help.
But what you did was a binge. Your head was in charge.
Were you preparing food for your family, what set your mind in motion to eat this food? If you planned this meal for your family - next time eat YOUR food prior to fixing their food, or ask someone else to fix their food. This food was planned, you don't suddenly have all that appear out of thin air. The Beans and cheese are okay as soft food, the meat might be a little harsh, you are not completely healed yet. The beans and cheese would smoosh down pretty good, and the 4 bites of taco meat maybe did not put you over your limit?
I am sorry you had this slip, I am surprised you didn't get sick, or 'slime'. Count your blessings, and take heed, you might not be as lucky next time.

Hey all! My surgery was on 5/12. I can hardly believe it hasn't even been 3 months yet. I've had good days and bad, and feel like they've all been great learning experiences (today's a good day though... ask me tomorrow, hah)
Until recently many foods - even the sight of them - would make me feel nauseous. Tastes and textures I'd loved seemed foreign. I've come to understand that happens with a percentage of people who've had weight loss surgery. I feel like it is improving and my diet is as well. I know this is the "honeymoon" phase of WLS, and the real challenge for me will be maintaining good eating habits, but I'm thrilled with the weight loss and am having fun shopping in my closet I'm down 51 lbs since starting my pre-op diet in April and 36 since surgery.
Cheers to all you amazing results! It is always inspiring and informative checking in with you all.

I had my sleeve on 5/18. In early April, I was 285 pounds and felt every bit of it throughout my body. I woke up every day feeling like I ran a marathon the day before. Amazingly, today is 7/24 and I'm down to 208 pounds. I haven't been this weight for about 22 years. Last week, I had a bad stretch of 3 or 4 days where I wasn't able to eat much and was vomiting. The doctor had me take an extra Omeprazole and I added Famotadine and that really helped the reflux issue. I didn't have much reflux before and wasn't taking the Omeprazole. That was a mistake. I'm doing so much better now.

My surgery was 5/26. Overall I feel I am doing great. My recovery from surgery was with no issue but I did hit a 3 week stall. It was in week 3 and it lasted a little over 3 weeks. However, in the past week weight is dropping. I struggled to get in enough Protein and Fluid for a while. I am now comfortably getting my protein and Water in and exercising without issue. I am like you as far as food. I often don’t get to my vegetables because I am full after eating my protein portion. I also am never hungry and have to make myself eat because of that. As of today I am down 38 pounds and was told at my surgeons office last week that I am doing great. More than anything, I feel so much better than before and am sleeping better than I have in years!!! So thankful!

I was May 19th. Doing good still here as well. Haven't had any issues with anything and I'm thankful for that. Since surgery I am down 42.9 lbs.

I’m down since surgery (5/24) 40lbs over all since starting in feb 2021 70lbs total.

The Vitamins are horrible!!! I have changed brands so many times. I can’t wait to be able to move to my normal chewable.
food wise I’m struggling some. I start to eat but then I feel like it’s coming back up. I’m assuming it’s reflux but when I take my meds for that I feel sick. This could all be in my head though. I’m officially allowed to eat “regular” food but soft is still my buddy.

    good luck everyone!

I'm down 30 since end of May. Started regular Vitamins (not chewable) today, those things are huge! (Bariatric Advantage) Got them down, but definitely felt it.
No food issues, still "full" after 3-4 oz. Have not incorporated grains yet, as I still can't eat all my vegetable portion. Full after the Protein. I really have to watch myself to make sure I don't eat too fast, especially with Snacks.

Hi everyone, I had my surgery on 5/18 and after working through some adjustments, I’m very happy to see the weight coming off. Not as fast as the first month, but glad it’s still moving in the right direction. HW 289 SW 260 CW 225

I have thought about all the milestones (negative) that I hit before finally turning to surgery.
These were NOT tipping points for me:
-needing seat belt extender on flight
    -struggling to tie my sneakers
-Winded walking to my office or up the stairs
    -prediabetes diagnosis
And so many years of dieting struggles

    The tipping point was
-getting an A1C test of 6.9 and a Diabetes diagnosis.
    - getting prescribed diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure medications.
-And Not being able to go on bike rides with my daughter

I felt so hopeless until I finally followed my cardiologists suggestion to attend an informational session for bariatric surgery. After another 4 months of considering all the risks (real and perceived) with taking this step, I could not imagine any other way that I would be able to lose the amount of weight that I needed to get healthy again.

Just over 3 months later and 54 lbs down, I am only sorry I was so resistant to the idea of surgery to help lose weight. I feel more than hopeful again. I have a long way still to go, but it feels doable now. And I already feel so much success to be able to move more comfortably and no longer need the medication prescribed just 8 months ago! And I am getting my bike tuned so I can go biking with my daughter on the nearby bike path that I have avoided riding for over 5 years!!

I have so many tipping points! as I know many of us probably have, its hard to chose like one particular thing bc just being obese is a reason bc it is linked to so many issues, not just physically but mentally. being obese messes with your state of mind, I think just being obese stops you from being who you trully are meant to be. its stops you from many things that an otherwise healthy or not obese person would do, bc they would not have the same issues that me with my experience with being obese does. I dont like to make obesity into a negative thing, bc there are plenty of obese people that are comfortable in their bodies, but I was not one of them. it really did hinder me from enjoying or doing things and I knew it was only a matter of time that I got a more serious condition that would only further my inability to enjoy life. I wanted a more healthier quality of living. so atleast I can live and be more normal and be a part of society and be comfortable in my own body.

My tipping point was when my weight reached 100 lbs more than when I was 18, and a BMI of 40. Years of constant dieting only caused me to continually gain weight. I was ready to give up and try to be happy with the way I was, it didn’t work, and when I had trouble bending over and getting out of breath going upstairs I knew I needed to do something that was permanent. I had my surgery on 6/28 and am doing great. I wish I hadn’t waited so long.

In the last 5 years I gained around 50lbs - my tipping point was joint & mobility issues. I have been overweight my entire life. High of 270, low of 170. I was 241 when I contacted the surgeon. 245 the day I started the pre-op diet. I have my 50th looming in 2 years. I love to travel, so the last thing I wanted was to not be able to enjoy that. I was having nightmares about getting stuck or not fitting in things. The call had to be made.

I'm not sure I had a tipping point. I think it was cumulative. But I sort of put it out of my mind for a while, because my old insurance didn't pay for it. My husband's insurance through work does, so I switched from my work's insurance to his, when he got his new job. I gave up after my last diet. I just threw my hands in the air and said "well, this is me, I guess." Even though the insurance is more expensive through his work (it's $660 a month for our share, versus the $100 I was paying at my job), I'm still grateful for the opportunity. (I'm pre-op)

One of my tipping points was seeing on my medical charts. Morbid Obesity, what a horrible diagnosis to see. The second was finding out I was going to be a grandma for the first time that we thought would never happen. So happy. Post op 9 weeks now and doing great. So grateful

Honestly my tipping point was wanting to get some kind of enjoyment out of my 20s and also finally having a full time job with health insurance that covered it. I was getting into my late 20s and just didn't want my life to keep going by with me doing nothing with my life but coming home from work, watching tv, and eating. I wanted to live a more active life and I wanted to experience (just once) what it was like to feel young and hot! I know that's kind of vain, but it's the truth. I also have always dreamed of running a marathon or half marathon.

My tipping point was learning I was pre-diabetic and my BMI over 40. Also not wanting to go clothes shopping with my sister or friends because I couldn’t buy anything at the stores they shopped at. So glad I finally made the decision to do something 😊

I had multiple food allergies as an infant and toddler and became a chubby kid with a mom that restricted my eating. At age 7 my mother committed suicide and I began stealing candy from the local drug store. I hated vegetables, loved carbs, cheese and fried foods. I was alternatively rewarded and cajoled for my eating.
I managed my weight in early adulthood by doing 500 calorie a day diets and staying active. I gained 80lbs with each of my pregnancies, and stopped nursing my second child early so I could do a calorie restrictive diet. I got down to almost normal weight, then started gaining, weighing 280 lbs in my mid thirties. I divorced my husband, lost some weight, started working out. Decided I'd just get comfortable being 50-60lbs overweight and was for fifteen years. By the time I hit my 50's I was steadily gaining, then losing (no carb diets, doctor supervised diets, calorie restricted diets, personal growth programs - because certainly there was something wrong about me that I could fix!) I was depressed, borderline diabetic and took meds for blood pressure, thyroid disease, fibromyalgia, PPI for reflux and used a CPAP.
I gained an additional 40lbs during the pandemic because I literally decided I would eat anything I wanted - and I did. Shortly after the first of this year, I realized I was constantly thinking about dying. The only future I saw was of my continual decline. I could see no way to interrupt the path of my life. Then, I saw a post of an acquaintance on Facebook who had VSG four years ago. She looked fabulous and seemed so happy. I contacted her and we met for lunch. I began to consider surgery and started doing my homework on it. When my insurance turned me down, I again reached out to my friend who had gone to Mexico to have hers. She offered to accompany me if I decided to do it. I discussed it with my kids. I met with my doctors and told them what I was thinking. They all supported the surgery, although one was concerned about me traveling for it. I researched the surgeon, found Bariatricpal.com and read some of your stories. I journaled and wrote about my big why, and I began to have hope for my future. I started to imagine my life without the shame and fear around eating and food. I called everyone I knew who'd had bariatric surgery and asked them about their experiences. Finally, I called my Facebook friend back and told her I was committed. I paid my deposit, scheduled the surgery and I haven't looked back once.
