I am doing a Nutrimed diet. I guess it is sort of like Optifast? ? I just started today but I can tell I have underestimated the struggle 🥴. I am definitely jealous of the ones getting to have actual food. I keep telling myself this is only temporary and we will feel and look so much better ❤️

Four days left to go! My pre-op diet is starting to get to me. Nothing but liquids for 14 days starts to make drinking the Protein Shakes quite the challenge. I'm starting to find there are days where I just am not hungry or cannot stomach another shake and basically have to choke them down. I can definitely understand not ever wanting to drink this type of shake again. I'll definitely be purchasing different ones for post op. The impact on ones digestive track on a diet like this is a real thing and has caught up with me during the final days on the pre-op diet. At this point I would rather just not have to drink 5 a day and maybe just have to drink 2 and just not eat. Just have to limp across the finish line! Friday is right around the corner!

Hi! I had surgery on 5/18 and by week two increased energy now since last week, I’m a slow drag! Energy depleted! I’m struggling with eating and my Protein intake is just not there…
Is this normal? Yesterday I didn’t get out the bed

Hang in there. Post-op you will not likely get that one meal for a while. Expect to be on liquids a week, full liquids another week before getting cream/pureed foods (all depending on your dietician's approach). I highly recommend getting sugar free popsicles and pudding. The pudding helped me a lot with carb cravings. SO MUCH of the pre-op diet is mental. If you haven't already, I recommend finding the forum "What is your Why?" and journalling about it. Having that long term goal in mind while preparing your body for surgery and caring for it afterwards is crucial. In the short term, everyone goes through withdrawals from food, from eating to replace boredom or out of habit, but those that manage this best are the ones with great faith in why they are doing it. Best to you!

I think you're doing great. My first three months were like that. And yes, I still can't believe how much I've lost in such a short time

I know that exact feeling. It is called Body Dysmorphia and rapid changes can have that effect on our brains. I am slowly coming to terms with it myself as I have lost 120 lbs since my highest weight. Even buying clothes was not easy for me at first because the fitting rooms were not open and I didn't buy clothes until the clothes I was wearing were basically falling off.

I have never ordered a child's menu item. Generally, children's items are geared to children's tastes. I didn't even care for them when I was a child. They are not designed for folks on strict healthy nutritional plans.
I order what I want that satisfies my plan. I eat the volumes according to my plan.
Leaving food on the plate is not the sin most of us seem to think it is.
The cards you can get that explain you had surgery and asks for child portions are nonsense, in my opinion. My spouse naturally eats small portions so why should she be not able to present a card also? Or anyone on a diet? Why should *WE* get special treatment while dieters don't?
    Good luck,
    Tek

Share with a family member. Order an appetizer or a side dish. Take home your leftovers and have a few more meals. Accept the loss as part of the journey. We ordered out a few days ago, I got something I could handle at my current stage. I ate a small portion of it once per day for about 4 days and only got through maybe 2/3 of it and we threw the rest away. It stinks to waste food but it's not my primary worry right now. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to find better balance with less waste.

I wouldn't order off the kids menu -it's usually junk food that isn't good for your new stomach, too much carbs. Try ordering chili, or lean Protein with a side of veggies once you're on "real" food. You can take the leftovers home for a few more meals. I know people here order salmon, chicken, lean cuts of beef, turkey burgers with no bun, etc.

I am scheduled for the 21st too! I started my pre-op a week early, as I need to be under a certain weight by my pre-op appointment on the 15th. I figure what I can do for two weeks, I can do for three weeks too. I have another 4 pounds to go before my weight in. Nights seem to be the hardest for me, as my mind wonders to worry/hunger/and a lot of what-ifs. During the day I am able to keep myself occupied and on a little schedule of when to drink my shakes and my alternatives. My doctor requires only liquids (no meals, no veggies, etc.) so I am little jealous of those that are able to have some variety. But, it is what it is. We got this!

Drink plenty of fluids, get in as much Protein as possible. Follow your surgical team's and dietician's plan. Walk, even short distances. It aides in healing and in moving fluids through your body. Be kind to yourself and remember that surgery is just a tool. To make it an effective tool, you'll need to treat it well, use it correctly and trust that it takes some time to become proficient at it. Wishing you well!

But most people, at some point after surgery, do fine eating small amounts of red meat.
