    Iron supplements

You could also just buy stand alone iron pills at the drug store for those four days. But four days is not going to make a difference in the long run.

    Newbie!

Welcome! Congratulations on your journey. It's certainly a difficult journey, but most people are happy they did it. My advice would be to follow your surgery center's plan and don't compare yourself to anyone else.
  3. So, I have heard that people years out from surgery have restriction still IF they stick to protein. Like we can eat lots of sugary junk foods, but if you eat a chicken breast or fish, you will not be able to eat too much. So, fill up on protein. I know it's hard; I am only 7 months out and I crave sugary foods too. I do drink DIET soda, because our surgery center says that's okay, but I don't drink much because it's not as comfortable as it used to be.

    Hi

Work really hard on those fluids! It is really easy to get dehydrated and end up back in hospital. I found that keeping a bottle of water or whatever in my hand or right next to me helped a lot. I needed my drinks iced cold but some people prefer them warm. Some people set a timer to drink every five or ten minutes. Congrats!

    “Non scale victories...”

There is a whole thread on here for NSVs. But just a warning - don't count on all of your medical issues to disappear even if you lose a good amount of weight. Not all health problems that doctors say are caused by your weight are really caused by your weight. Some are genetic, like high blood pressure and cholesterol. Actually, cholesterol can increase right after surgery as your body releases certain hormones. Congratulations on having surgery, but remember that "health" is more than just your blood pressure or other medical conditions. Health has a lot to do with how you feel. I have lost 112 lbs and I feel great being able to fit more comfortably in places and wear "regular" clothes. I also move more comfortably and walk faster. But I was promised so many things - like having more energy - that I have not experienced. Good luck!

Hopefully your doctors can figure out what's going on. Maybe you might have to go on some medications.

    First day of purée diet

I ate eggs two weeks out with no issues. People tolerate different things. Eggs will not hurt your suture line. It doesn't mean you will tolerate them. Many people don't tolerate fluids after surgery, doesn't mean those aren't liquids. Just chill out and stop telling people what to do.

    First day of purée diet

You just said you know nothing about medicine. That's my point. As I said, eggs are not purees per a "physics" definition, but per a MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY definition, they are. The reason we are told to eat or not eat certain food after surgery has to do with how they behave AFTER we've chewed them and how they interact with our digestive tract. And the reason we have to be careful is NOT because we might "choke" but because they could irritate our staple line. Most surgery centers don't feel that eggs will irritate your staple line, so they are just as good as refried beans or any other puree. BTW, the OP didn't say she choked - she said she was nauseous. That has NOTHING to do with whether it's a puree. Eggs are just funky.

    First day of purée diet

I don't know how to say this, but you come across in many of your posts as very forceful and almost like you're ordering people to do things. You are not their doctor. You do not know everything. Try to remember what you are offering is nothing more than your opinion. While from a physics standpoint, eggs are not a puree, from a mechanical foods perspective, they essentially are. And yes, it is true that we don't need to worry about protein too much for the first few weeks, that doesn't mean that we SHOULDN'T eat protein powder.

    First day of purée diet

My surgery center permitted us scrambled eggs as our first solids. Many centers consider them equivalent to purees. And why not protein powder?

    Blood sugar levels high

Did you have any artificial sweetener before you took the test? Or anything other than water/black coffee? That can affect your results. So, if you had a protein shake before the test that could affect it. Good luck!

    I've always wondered.....

I am in a support group with a woman who had her surgery in Mexico and she had severe nausea after surgery but was too out of it to advocate for herself. Luckily the sister of the woman who she shared a room with was there and was a nurse and told the doctors that she needed help, and that the medications she had weren't working. But she did not have a great experience. She went to one of the most popular and highly rated places there. You could have a good or bad experience at any hospital, but my advice is to try (If you can afford it/insurance will cover it) is to get it near home where someone can come with you to be your advocate. This is not just for WLS but for any medical procedure where you will be unconscious.

    Advice!

I started changing my habits as soon as I called the surgery center, and I didn't have surgery for 7.5 months after that. I worked really hard and lost 50 lbs. HOWEVER... around month 6 I was getting to the point where if I lost any more weight I wouldn't qualify for surgery (Insurance required a BMI of 40), so I started throwing food funerals and eating all sorts of things. Then I followed the two week pre-op diet with no issues. I don't regret changing my habits so early because the 50 lbs I lost are 50 lbs I don't have to lose now. Nor do I regret the food funerals. It helped me deal with the anxiety. And, like others have said... you WILL be able to eat most things again, just not all the time. I've had pizza and sweets and chips, just not very many of these things and not very often.

many people find that eggs make them nauseous after surgery. Try something else like Greek yogurt, refried beans, tuna with lots of mayo, etc. Eggs are tricky. Good luck!

    Intro and question

I'm sorry you're facing this. I was fortunate to have a very supportive family, but it's not easy for someone who has always be thin to understand what it's like to not be able to lose weight and keep it off. I previously lost 50, then 80, and then 100 lbs but always gained it back. One of the surgeons I talked to said that if you are 100 lbs overweight, the odds of keeping that weight off for 5 years without surgery is like 1 in 2000! Surgery doesn't by any means guarantee that you will be thin for life, but it's better odds. It's not easy though

    Eating

I agree - set reminders to drink every five minutes take a sip, or if you can drink more at once, every 15 minutes. Keep a drink right next to you at all times. Getting dehydrated can lead to all sorts of problems, and is the most common reason people have to go back to the hospital after WLS. You will feel better if you keep drinking those fluids. You will loose less hair and muscle if you get your protein in. You will still lose weight. Good luck!
  17. I have a friend who had sleeve done a few years ago and she said this happened to her a lot at the beginning. I don't think it happens to her anymore. Good luck!
  18. Yes, my multivitamin makes me nauseous, but I've found that taking it after eating a high fat meal helps tremendously.

WLS and MS (getting the sleeve)

I replied on your other post, but I forgot that celebrex is an NSAID, so make sure both your surgeon and your neurologist are okay with you continuing on it after surgery. Some surgeons are fine with NSAIDS for occasional use, and I believe the COX2 inhibitors are less tough on the stomach anyway, but it's good to check.
  20. I'm sorry you're struggling. Try different liquids, different temps of liquids. Like, iced or warm. You can try protein water maybe (Protein2O or something similar), or I ate a lot of sugar free greek yogurt. You can freeze protein shakes and see if that works better. Another person asked if you are on a PPI, like omeprazole. Acid could be making you nauseous as well. Keep pestering your doctors.

Surgery on Wednesday. Scared, 2nd thoughts

I'm the one who posted that I'm still hungry. Most people (but not all!) lose their hunger for a few months after surgery. But it always comes back. However, I am satisfied on MUCH LESS FOOD. And there are medications that have been helpful for me. I am nauseous from my multivitamin, but I haven't thrown up in a long time. I have found that if I eat something with fat in it before I take the multivitamin, I am better I have also lost 113 lbs so far. Is my life miraculously better? No. I'm a smaller person who is more comfortable in my body. I still have pain in my knee and arm. I walk faster now. I still have bipolar disorder (the surgery center thinks this is why I never lost my hunger). Am I glad I did the surgery? Most days. Should you cancel your surgery? That's up to you. Most people do not end up regretting it.
  22. Ondansetron is a good drug, but there are others. Does the ondansetron not work at all? Does it stop working too soon? Do you take it around the clock? Dehydration can make nausea worse, so keep on top of the meds and drink what you can. Maybe you could stomach warm or iced tea better? I still don't like water much and I'm 7 months out.

WLS and MS (getting the sleeve)

I don't have MS but I have bipolar disorder, so I take a lot of pills. I haven't had any trouble keeping anything down except the multivitamin. I also had the sleeve. I took all my pills starting the night of my surgery, never missed any. You can try doing a search for MS or multiple sclerosis in the search bar on this site to see if anyone else has posted. Good luck!

    Not doing good

I'm so sorry for your loss! Seek help from a therapist or grief support group, but also, take care of your body. Your hair loss is likely made worse if you are not taking your vitamins and if you are not getting enough protein. Get the help you need to get back on track. Hugs!

    Weight loss starts when?

I didn't gain or lose anything. It probably varies a lot by the amount the hospital pumps you full of and how dehydrated you are going in, how much you pee afterwards, along with the fact that bodies are weird and different. The weight will come off.
