  1. Thanks! I'm heading over to care.com right now. I've read a few posts about what I'll need after surgery. I'll get a list together and get myself set up. Luckily, we live in a world where everything can be delivered. At least I won't be stranded if I forget something. You've given me a lot to think about. Thanks again.
  2. You're right! I've been worried he would try to sabotage this whole process. He's done it in the past. I've been careful not to tell him when I have appointments scheduled or with who. I think he'd try to screw it up somehow. I wish he were on my side. It feels like he's never got my back. I've just started seeing a therapist but we've only had 2 sessions. I will bring this up at or next session. Thank you. 💗
  3. Ok, so you managed to do it with a little help. A 4-hour shift after with help from an aide would be great. I didn't even think about prescrption pickup or bringing my stuff in. Ug.--Thanks for sharing that.
  4. Thanks for the advice. I've tried to explain the benefits and why I need the surgery so many times, he just refuses to listen. I will try your way----this isn't cheating. It's basically a stricter diet and exercise program than he's ever been on, and a physical restriction that FORCES you to behave and re-learn how to eat.---- Hopefully, he'll listen. Something has to get through right?
  5. I will check to see if my hospital requires someone to physically be there. Thanks for that tip. I'll also look into medical transport. Yes, I'm stressed. Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it.
  6. My husband thinks I should be able to lose the weight on my own without surgery. He thinks it's too drastic of a step to take. Your husband sounds so supportive. He's even doing the preop/liver shrink diet with you? That's love!! Thank you for your prayers.

    CPT Coding for Loop DS?

I would go with 43845 -Gastric restrictive procedure with partial gastrectomy, pylorus-preserving duodenoileostomy and ileoileostomy to limit absorption (biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch) I coded for a few years. Still, drilling down to that level of specificity can be tough. Maybe someone else will chime in.
  8. timmytommy, ColieCallwell, I'm surprised you wouldn't be approved if you lost too much weight durring the process. I thought insurance used your starting weight for approval. This just proves how everyone's path to surgery and requirements are different. timmytommy, what you'll need to accomplish during your six-month pre-op depends on what your insurance requires and what your doctor/ surgeon wants/needs to prove that you're physically and mentally ready for surgery. You may be required to do the following: Begin a medical weight loss program Lose weight Have psychological evaluation See a registered dietician (RD) See an exercise therapist or get on an exercise plan Attend a support group for bariatric patients Reduce soda/ alcohol Stop smoking/ using tobacco products Make dietary changes Increase protein Start a vitamin/ Supplement routine Sleep studies/ Maintain CPAP/BiPAP compliance Labs/ Tests: blood panel for CBC, thyroid function, B12, HgbA1--for prediabetes/diabetes, other vitamins EKG/ cardiac stress test EDG (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) Good luck!

    Negotiations $$

There is an Insurance and Finance section under Forums. Dealing with insurance can be a pain in the butt. Try not to let it break your spirit or momentum. It's common to need insurance verification before starting the process. Your visits must be covered so you don't end up with surprise bills. Good luck and welcome. There are so many knowledgeable and supportive people here.
  11. I'm considering having my tubes tied followed by weight loss surgery, performed laparoscopically, back to back, on the same day. I was planning on having RNY until the physicians assistant told me my surgeon may not agree to tubal ligation followed by RNY. I may have to switch to tubal ligation followed by a gastric sleeve. A couple of weeks ago I was scheduled for the Nexplanon birth control implant. I realized at my age, (early 40s) I'm ready for something permanent. I'd tried to get my tubes tied in my mid and late 20s but was turned down by two OB/GYNs. In over a month I have a consult with a great OB/GYN and later with my surgeon. I'm sure I'll get some clarity after those visits but I'd like a perspective from someone who's had this specific surgery or another combo like WLS+ gallbladder removal. How long were you out of work or when did you start to feel like yourself again? Did you have any side effects related to the tubal part of the surgery? Anything you wished you'd known before surgery?
  12. I will search for that. Thank you.

    Walking shoes recommendations

I agree with catwoman7 and Arimi, Brooks and Saucony make excellent walking shoes but everyone's needs are a little different. If you can find a running/ walking shoe store that offers free fittings, I'd recommend it. I had a shoe fitting years ago and they were able to identify my gait, pronation, and high arch. Wherever you go, I'd make sure they offer a good return policy. Also, your feet may shrink as you lose weight and your once great shoes may not offer the right support anymore. Good luck!

Lying about not getting surgery is awful

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It sounds like the intent was to get prayers of support but, she broke your trust multiple times. I wouldn't be able to get over it either. I can empathize. I shared some medical information with someone I trusted with the promise of confidentiality. Imagine how shocked I was when another friend came to my house with lots of worry and questions about my health. It's probably the angriest and hurt I've ever been. All I could bring myself to say was, "If I wanted you to know, I would have told you myself." I remember reading somewhere that when you share something, you lose control of that information. Once shared, you can't control who gets access to the information and when. I wish family and friends were bound by HIPAA privacy and confidentiality laws.

Do I have an eating disorder?

If you are concerned about eating habits and behaviors it might benefit you to be evaluated. An eating disorder diagnosis is best made by a mental health professional. Your Primary can provide you with a referral to a licensed psychologist (PhD / PsyD) who specializes in eating disorders, or a bariatric psychologist. Can a therapist help with what you described? Yes. Be honest about what is going on and find someone you feel like you can connect with. This is so crucial because if you can't be open about what's going on they may be less able to help you. I was in therapy for a long time with a therapist who specialized in eating disorders. The main focus was dealing with the stressors that led me to overeat. Whenever stress increased, so did my eating. I was the peacekeeping type who struggled to say when my feelings were hurt or when I felt bulldozed. I was walking on eggshells in my relationships to keep the peace. The process can be emotionally draining. It forces you to deeply evaluate your behavior and there can be some uncomfortable truths. There were times I would dread going because I knew it would be a lot of work. At the time I thought, "This is hard but I'm trying to get myself better." With hindsight, I can see why my therapist pushed me, asked the tough questions, and made me accountable to my goals. I'm so much better now and I don't regret going. These are some of the things we worked on: Improving mood Self-care Cognitive restructuring/ CBT--changes the way you cope and react to stress Mindful eating- eating at the dinner table, 30-45 minutes, smell food first, one small bite at a time, eat slowly, identify flavors and textures Identified vulnerabilities Identified triggers--that negatively impact mental health Negative self-talk--challenge the truth behind the talk Identified emotions Behavior patterns Full/ not full/ beyond full Beliefs surrounding weightloss Urge control--resist the urge to eat by distracting yourself for 1, 5, 10 mins I kept a food and mood log. For a few weeks, I wrote down everything I ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I would rate my stress and hunger level from 1-10 and emotions/feelings--happy, stressed, sad, tired at each mealtime. If important, I would document a bit about my day like had a fun time with friends or had a fight with my husband. Like I said, every time I had a rough day, I skipped meals or overate. Not only did therapy give me clarity about what I was doing, but it also gave me tools to deal with it and improve. I'm not cured, but the pull to eat, eat, eat is quieter and the behavior/thoughts are less constant. Another benefit is my therapist had my back even when friends and family didn't. She could point out some of their crazy-making behavior and confirm it wasn't always me which made me feel better. Good luck, I hope you get some peace. ❤️

Hey, I was able to find the yogurt. I like it better than Oikos. It's less sour and creamier.

Just curious, which grocery store were you able to find these? I know stores vary between states. I've checked our local Cub Foods, Target, Walmart, and Byerly's.
