  1. I cleared a path from one end of house to the other and I would just start walking when I felt head hunger. Just back and forth from one end to the other for about five minutes was long enough to distract me and then I would go back to whatever I was doing. I also do this while I’m on the phone or if I have any anxiety and according to Apple Watch I get like 30 exercise minutes a day without really trying.

  2. Yea back pain is difficult for some to empathize about because you can’t see the pain. I was in car accident and had back and neck pain and remember even getting eye rolls when I talked about it cause i looked young and healthy as can be. I’m glad you are back on track and 8 blocks is great. Woo Hoo!!

I actually like Mahi Mahi too! Could you cut the frozen portion with a sharp knife? What about tilapia or some other mild fish? Or shrimp? You can usually get tilapia fresh and always buy a very small portion of shrimp. I've heard that shrimp is easy at the beginning, although it won't help if you don't like it!

    Good luck!

Tilapia is okay (good idea) but shrimp I didn’t like pre surgery. I will try it again just in case but I didn’t like because of texture so I’m pretty sure I won’t like it now either I was thinking of snow crab or lobster one night for something different though (because of course I like the expensive ones, lol) also it takes forever to eat and post surgery that’s a good thing.

I really hope fish works for me after surgery because I love seafood. Except white flakey fish that tastes like nothing. I prefer salmon, tuna, swordfish, shrimp, scallops, squid, etc.

I am currently buying the 7 oz frozen salmon portions from costco. I haven't found any other frozen brands I like, but I know I won't be able to eat a full 7 oz piece of salmon after surgery, so maybe I'll cut it in half and eat the other half the next day.

I have a similar dilemma today. It’s my

first day of soft foods and unlike you I was not a huge fan of fish before surgery (I like mahi because it’s NOT super fishy) anyways I bought it frozen and when I defrosted I realized it will probably take me like 3 or 4 days (maybe longer) to eat it. And I will not want the same thing 3 or 4 Days in a row. Not sure what to do about that. They don’t always have fresh mahi I don’t think. Hopefully I will like other seafood since I know it’s good for me and I will be more likely to find it fresh so I can freeze the rest in smaller portions.

I had nausea the first day or two, but I was still in the hospital and they just put Zofran in my IV line to control it - but since you're home, that wouldn't be a solution. I'd just let your clinic know if it lasts for more than another day or two.

They make a patch that goes behind your ear for nausea. I had it in hospital in addition to iv medication but I bet you could have that or some other rx pills. I would call your dr. Why suffer needlessly.

I’m in a similar situation, surgery day was 3/9. From preop diet to current I’ve lost 25lbs. I know that may seem substantial but I am following every rule precisely. No sugar, bread, potatoes, etc!

I was March 9 also and I have only lost 26

Thank you everyone so much for the positive messages and wishes! The first 24 hours were honestly kind of brutal. I was incredibly nauseous and just kept dry heaving and throwing up. I was afraid I was going to injure my sites or my stomach. The hospital staff was incredible though and tried all sorts of different medicines to help me out.
I came home the next day and was dry heaving once, but I haven’t again. I’ve been doing my best to get in all of my Water, I’ve been walking a few times a day and doing the breathing exercises.
The only issue I have now is I’m nervous to move onto drinking broth or Protein Water as I’m worried that the bold flavors might make me nauseous again... I think I just need to get over the fear of that happening again. Other than that, my biggest incision site is kind of sore, but I have just been icing it. Hopefully the worst is past me, and I’m still so grateful to have done it!

Everyday is easier than the one before. Just remember that the end justifies it. You got this!!

I don't really remember what size a pencil eraser is, but I know some of them are definitely bigger than that, and I won't be able to stop at least 6 of them for even a day. 3 are for Migraine prevention, so I would prefer not to stop those, but I could if I had to. I think splitting the ones I can't stop is probably an option. Thanks!

I think the best way to look at it is for a couple weeks at least after surgery your life WILL mostly revolve around your surgery and the fact that you’ve had surgery (getting in your meds, Protein, fluids, etc). You will be inconvenienced for a short while but that won’t last forever and it will be worth it in the long run. Each day it gets a little easier and you figure it out as you go. The important thing for me was to know that worst case even if I had to spend all day taking my meds it WAS possible to get them down...somehow.

Hi all! I take a lot of pills that I won't be able to stop after surgery. I'm wondering how hard it is to take pills right after surgery and how to do this. My surgeon hasn't been very responsive to my questions, just saying we'll get to this later, but I'm anxious because I can't miss a single day. I have bipolar disorder and missing any medication, especially when I have a major stressor in my life, could be a huge issue.

None of my pills are extended release so I could crush them, but I've heard this can be really painful or unpleasant tasting. I take about 20 pills a day mostly right before bed. Right now I can take the 14 I take at night in one gulp with Water. I don't want to spend all evening taking pills!

Also, the medications is why my surgeon recommended the sleeve; I had wanted the RNY since I have GERD.

I have bipolar as well and although I am not on quite so many pills now that I finally found the right combination for me, i have taken so many over the years I can swallow them without Water even if I have to. I went ahead and crushed my meds to try it before surgery to help alleviate my concerns about this and while they didn’t taste great they were palatable with a spoonful of applesauce (they sell the crusher thing at Walmart but you could probably do it with the back of a spoon just to test it).

i didn’t even think about it the morning after surgery and I swallowed two of the pills she handed me together at the same time with no issue and now I am three weeks out and I take 3-4 at a time with no issues (I could probably do more if I tried). You may be a little different and it may take a little less or more time but ultimately you will get there. I am already up to drinking half a glass of water pretty easily with only three weeks under my belt so you should be back to swallowing handfuls before you know it. 😆

I have my sleeve procedure next month in about 3 weeks. Getting nervous!

I want to hear from others like me so I know what to expect, part of me is nervous I won’t lose any weight and the other part of me is scared of getting so skinny my husband or I won’t recognize myself.

I have a BMI of 35.5 and qualified through insurance due to pre-existing conditions. I’m 5 foot 2 inches and weigh 199 and would consider myself as having a larger natural frame.

When I diet hard, I can drop about 20-25 pounds in 3 months or so, but it always just shoots back up. I have read that I could get down into the 140s or 130s even and I can’t remember the last time I weighed that. Even in high school I was in the low 150s when I played field hockey.

I am VERY ready to get healthy after my mom had a major health scare recently. If I continue on this path I get afraid I may not live to see my own kids get married or even see my own grandkids someday.

Still, while I know everyone’s body is different, I would like to know what I can expect, because it seems like what I read on forums vs the official medical representation is different.

How fast did everyone lose weight in my category? What weight did you end up at the 6 month mark and the 12 month mark?

According to my doctor, I have 70-75 pounds of excess weight. I don’t plan to start working out other than walks or bike riding until I am fully healed.

Thanks everyone! Hopefully this will help my nerves!

When I asked my dr what weight he expected me to get down to he asked what I weighed in high school and said a weight 20 pounds higher than that without exercise and same as high school with exercise. Based on that conversation I don’t think you will get smaller than high school. At least that’s not the norm for my doctors patients. If that makes sense.

I don’t see why you couldn’t have lunch meat... if you’re still on purées you’d still have to purée it.

Ooh no I meant on the soft food diet. The dietician said chicken, Turkey, fish and eventually lean ground beef were okay and after I hung up I thought wow I can’t make a whole Turkey for just me. Even a breast cause it won’t be moist enough left over. Thank you though.
