My period was due to hit day of surgery, thankfully it waited a day. Made for an interesting first post-op day, between cramps & gas pain...my abdomen was the one least in pain 😂

    Lol

I keep trying to look at it as a positive in terms of “bad” carbs that I can’t handle. It’s frustrating at times trying to hit daily goals for macros and only having a few different carb choices I can tolerate. Even “healthy” versions like low carb wraps or tortillas cause vomiting within 20mins :(

Ooh no. I’m so sorry. Hopefully it’s just temporary. The more I think about it, it really could be just temporary (the wraps and bread at least) because bread was one thing that was listed is often not tolerated well for several months (rice was on the list as well). I forgot because I tried them and did fine but many people do not. I think my book said two-four months out it may cause issues. Toasted bread and crackers will be tolerated easier than untoasted bread and rice. It’s because they are Gummy like paste even after they are chewed. So I would wait a couple weeks and try crackers or toast again before any of the other stuff.

My surgery was 3/23. I too feel like I can eat more than I should be able to, but I definitely feel full if and when I eat too much, too fast, or God Forbid, take a sip of Water before the suggested 30 minute wait time.

Initially, I was losing 1 to 2 pounds a day. Then I stalled out for what seemed like 3 weeks. And then I began losing again. I've lost 16 pounds since 5/17. Oddly enough, I feel like I'm losing more now that I can eat freely. I guess my body knows I'm not in starvation mode for sure and is using the calories I consume for energy.

I give it another couple of days before I finally break free of the 300s 😊 I'm so excited!

Good for you. That’s awesome!!! I think I am in the middle of a stall. At least I hope it is just a stall and not a sign that I need to cut calories again. I have only lost 25 since surgery, 40 total since pre-op but I was a lower BMI to begin. I think I need to add more exercise. I was just doing brisk walking each day but I think I need to do more. I feel like I am a slow loser even for lower BMI but I don’t really know for sure. I may call the dr Monday and ask what’s typical for someone like me.

I wish I had suggestions but sadly I don’t. I’m 10 weeks post op and I have zero hunger and zero desire to eat. I’m eating very little. I often wonder if my surgeon removed 99% of my stomach instead of the 75-80% LOL. If I approach 2-3 oz of food at a sitting, I can feel it in my chest and stomach. So I simply stop eating. I’m not getting in the Protein that they recommend so I’m trying to work on that. Of the many things I’ve learned throughout this entire process, the one that sticks out the most is that everybody’s journey and situation is unique. My only suggestion is simply Just try your best to stick to the plan. I know you’ve heard that a million times but I think it’s the best course of action. Good luck!

    Thank you for that.

  5. How much is everyone eating? I find that I am able to eat more at this stage (match 9 surgery) than the 4-5 oz that the nutritionist said I should be able to. I need to make the transition to three meals a day and no Snacks since I am eating more now and I’m not sure why but mentally that’s hard. I try skipping snack time and I feel hungry. I know it’s head hunger but it feels so real. Anyone have any suggestions for this.

My psych and dietician are on the 15th of June, so I'm mentally preparing for that. My surgeon said I will be on minimum 3 weeks of the pre surgery diet. So I'm keeping an eye out for sales of the shakes.< br>I also have to have a blood test sometime this month to double check all my levels as my Iron was a little low so they wanted to make sure I didn't have to have an infusion of that first.
Trying to not psych myself out too much but I also love information so I've been reading and watching so much stuff about pre and post op as it gets closer and closer.

Not sure if you have a membership but SAMs club sometimes has really good sales on shakes (in guessing costco would be same). I don’t suggest stocking up too much for post surgery though because many of our tastes change a bit especially for sweet stuff.

  7. Trust the process. It’s so easy for those of us who have done the yo yo diets to worry that this won’t work for us but if we follow the plan it will. And you will lose weight at your own pace. Try not to compare your weight loss (or recovery for that matter) to others as it is very individualized. You got this!!

  8. I am 12 weeks out from surgery day. My BMI was 35 before pre-op diet and 33 on surgery day. I lost 14 pounds on pre-op diet and have lost 25 more since surgery. My current BMI is 29. I believe I am still a slow loser even for the lower BMI group because I did not have any issues getting in or tolerating foods or anything from the beginning. I have heard veterans who were slow losers as well say that they continued to lose weight for almost two years so it has to all come off eventually.

  9. I am so mad that I donated what I would have loved to be my goal outfit not too long ago (but before i decided on WLS). It was the pants that I wore the night I met my husband and i was tiny then since I was tiny my whole life till about 25 when bipolar symptoms started and medication along with depression made me gain a ton of weight. I remember the brand and they were plaid so I even tried searching used clothes on eBay to find them but had no luck. I did save some other outfits that I wore around that same time but I thought it would've been cool to be able to fit back into that outfit and ask him if I’ve still got it. Lol

I would just like to get to a stable weight for the first time in my life. I have lost 50, 80, 100 lbs and gained it all back. I'm always either losing or gaining weight.

I have done the same and it is not fun and it makes it difficult to trust this process. For me at least. Fingers crossed several years from now we will be here giving advice and telling everyone how well the process worked for us.

  11. I think it may be best to have someone show you what to do if you haven’t done it before. Whether it’s the machines at a gym or free weights at home you can hurt yourself if you do it wrong. I need to get on the ball with doing just that. I am 12 weeks out and should have been doing this already. My husband showed me two things to do with the weights but I think I am going to go to a gym and work with a trainer to learn more exercises since I know that what he showed me is not enough. He just showed me what he does to bulk up his arms I think and it works for him but that’s not what I need to be doing I’m sure. Jnfinney gave me a list of things that would be good for me to do but I need someone with experience to teach me how to do them.

Oh, I didn't think about taking them out of the souper cubes to put in ziploc bags. But I have no place to put in the whole ice cube sized tray to freeze in the first place. My freezer is much smaller than a normal size freezer because my fridge is apartment size. It's barely big enough for one person who cooks. The containers I bought aren't disposable; they are dishwasher and microwave safe and freezer safe. But they are not silicone, so no oven.

So if you really wanted to use the cubes you could possibly fit some of the smaller tray ones that are like half a regular ice cube tray size. It sounds like what you are doing is working for you though.

I'm the same way. No food is worth weighing 373 lbs again (my starting weight). I NEVER want to go back there!

as far as eating whatever: before I had surgery, I started paying attention to what the women at my job ate for lunch (several of them ate in the employee break room, thus I could see what they were eating). Especially the normal weight women. There were a couple of them that ate a lot (well, at the time I would have called what they ate "normal"), but the majority of them ate these little tiny lunches (or they seemed little tiny to me at the time, anyway). A bagel and a thing of yogurt. Or half a sandwich and an apple. Or a sandwich and some baby carrots. I started to think the women that ate the bigger meals were either blessed with really good metabolism, or they were very active. The ones eating the microscopic lunches - I started to think that that's just the way a lot of normal women eat (unfortunately...). And now, I've joined them...

When the hunger hormones come back does the smaller portion still satisfy you?? I can see myself eating till full then still being hungry an hour later when I could technically eat again. I know this is exactly what we are not supposed to do, I just wonder why many people don’t do it if the hungry feeling is there. Do you have to constantly remind yourself that you just ate and should be satisfied like when on a diet or is the hunger not as strong or what. I am just wondering why this is going to work better than diets have in the past.

I don't usually bake my meals, usually I make stew type dishes, so I didn't think of that as an advantage of the souper cubes over the small fake tupperware containers from the grocery store (I follow My Level Ten Life too!). I bought some of those small 4 oz and 2 oz containers from the grocery store, about $2 - $2.50 for a set of 4 and I like that they are separate, since I can take just one from the freezer to microwave it. Also my freezer is TINY. Yes, they're a little bigger, but I don't need to fill them up all the way. I think they have a measurement line half way up but I can also measure it and put a line with a permanent marker. I also can buy 1 oz containers for right after surgery to measure liquids.

The one good thing about the cubes is that they take up less room than containers in the freezer. Especially if you take them out and place the “cubes” in ziplock bags. (This way you can use the same one and don’t need multiple supper cube trays too). For right after surgery the ice cube sizes ones would have been great though. As time goes on and you can eat more just take out more cubes per meal. I doubt the ice cube size would be great for stew unless you cut the ingredients extra small. I guess it’s just a matter of preference but I have found them handy for certain things. I also have prepped the food into the disposable containers in 2 ounce and 3 ounce portions and placed those into ziplock bags and froze stuff that way though depending on what I was freezing.
