Almost 1 week out. Dumping not sure ??

I have never dumped but I agree it doesn’t sound like it could be dumping. First of all you haven’t had any sugar or fat which are what usually cause dumping but also, I am pretty sure the symptoms of dumping are a little more severe than what you described.
  2. Okay I’m sure it was mentioned on here already but cauliflower mashed potatoes. Birds Eye Frozen ones that can be found at Walmart. They are delicious. Just wanted to bring them up again in case someone hasn’t tried them yet.

    Revision Jan 6

Hi Charlie. I am not exactly on the same journey as you (I just had a sleeve in March 2021) but still wanted to wish you luck with yours. You should find a ton of support on here. I have found these boards to be a lifesaver since I didn’t tell many people and those I did tell don’t all understand what I am going through.
  4. I am almost nine months out and have only lost 66 pounds so I would venture to say you are doing fine. It actually would be helpful if you filled in your profile. I can eat almost a normal serving size now. I am a little early to be able to eat this much but my team says it’s okay and there is nothing wrong. I am 9 pounds from goal and still losing very slowly.

Prep recommends... I'm six weeks out

I didn’t have much pain at all. I don’t think my dr used the air or gas that they fill you up with cause I had no gas pain and I had the nerve block on my stomach so I didn’t even need pain meds. I Did have to go back as an outpatient to the hospital to get fluids the first week. I am not really sure why cause it didn’t really hurt to drink. I just couldn’t drink as much and it takes a while to get used to sipping all the time all day. I may not have needed to if I had just stayed at the hospital the second night but I was ready to go.

Prep recommends... I'm six weeks out

I used to drink Coke Zero all day and night like a 12 pack a day. I quit prior to surgery and really don’t even miss it. I have a little caffeine now but not from soda even though my team says I am medically clear to have it again but they don’t recommend it cause of the correlation with weight gain. I have the premiere protein caffe latte every morning and occasionally I have a crystal light energy if I am feeling tired during the day. Both of those hit me harder energy wise now than a single soda used to. There isn’t anything specific that I needed post op that I wasn’t told to expects. Protein drinks, broths, puree soups, sugar free popsicles, etc. i had a pretty uneventful recovery though. Maybe others will have more to add about that.

Post op - Liquid Only - Suggestions?

That stage is pretty boring. Kinda have to just stick to your list from your team. Just sip sip sip, try different flavors and different temperatures until you figure out what works for you.

    Can eat too much

People say that the restriction sometimes doesn’t kick in until you get past soft foods. Throughout the whole process I was able to eat more than was expected for each stage. I just have to measure my food and eat only what I am supposed to. Now at almost 9 months out I can already eat almost a full serving of things. According to my team this is okay. I reached that a little sooner than most but it doesn’t mean something is wrong or that I did anything wrong. The main thing is to still eat slow and listen for your full cues and to stop when you feel satisfied or when you finish your portion. I should add that I have lost weight on the slower side but I am steadily losing still. I am ten pounds from goal.

    Gas pain

If you have signs of dehydration such as dark urine contact your clinic and they should be able to arrange for you to get fluids somewhere as an out patient. I was so worried I was gonna end up back in the hospital about this. I didn’t realize that it was not really a big deal to get fluids.

    First day liquid diet

I just had to do everything I could to keep myself busy. I ordered some adult crafts from Amazon ahead of time cause I can sorta lose track of time with those.

    Protein intake day 4 question

I was able to drink the whole shake pretty quick after surgery too. I have been able to consume more at every stage than I expected to. I just try to measure things and only eat what I am expected to be eating. Liquid passes through pretty quickly though.

    My mammogram didn’t hurt??

This was only my second time having a mammogram so I’m not sure it could’ve just been the difference in the person doing it but it didn’t hurt this time and it did last time a lot. I’m wondering if it was because I’ve lost so much weight and I’ve lost quite a bit in my breast as well. Has anyone else experienced a difference in their mammogram experience??

    Gastroparesis upset

Maybe you will find someone with the exact same condition but if not that’s probably a question for the surgeon. If I were you and you haven’t already I would just go ahead and make an appointment for the consultation because the whole process can take a while anyways, especially if you go through insurance, so you may as well get the ball rolling and get your question answered by the experts.

    Vitamin

I had the sleeve as well. I take pro care health one a day multivitamin with 45mg iron. I switched to this around two months post op because I wanted something cheaper and something that truly was once a day. I am almost 9 months now and my 3 and 6 month labs were great. I also take calcium citrate twice a day. The website on the bottle is procarenow.com.
  16. I went bowling with my husband today and we did warmup and three games and I wasn’t tired at all. We used to do league and that wasn’t too bad because there are so many people between so you get to rest but when just he and I would go in the past I would get wiped out and sometimes had to let him finish my last game for me. Today I finished all three and could have done more.

    Help

I agree that if you can get your family on board to help support you that would be really great. You may also benefit from a therapist that specializes in eating disorders because it sounds like you may suffer from boredom eating. Basically you are stuck at home and you don’t have things to keep you busy so you just eat. When I was searching for one that is near my home I was told that there are some online websites that have bariatric therapists if you do not have any locally. I don’t remember the sites but maybe someone who responds to this will know them.

    Painkillers

Ooh I was asking if it was prescription because I figured if you could just pick it up at store you would have just done that. Hummm. Is the prescription part of the pharmacy closed? Perhaps the doctor on call can call in another liquid pain medicine?? If not, it seems like his office could tell you if crushing a tablet would be okay. It was fine with my surgeon. He told me if I had trouble swallowing any of my rx I could crush them but I would still ask your team to be sure.

    VSG scheduled 6/8/22

I didn’t really need much. I did purchase a long phone charger cord for the hospital on Amazon. Also if you don’t have a blender you may want it for puree phase (depends on if you are the type of person that has consistency issues with food-I do so I couldn’t eat blended food). I did find the disposable cups handy from Amazon that are 2 oz with lids. Made it easier to measure and store food early out. The hospital gave me a stomach binder but some people say that they purchase those online. You will definitely want a few protein shakes (a variety) on hand for the full liquid phase but don’t stock up too much cause our tastes change sometimes especially for sweet stuff post surgery.

    Painkillers

Is it an rx?? If it’s rx they should be able to get it refilled by another doctor on call. Did you ask about getting more of the liquid. I was able to take pills right off the bat but I didn’t have anything as large as a Tylenol. They do sell pill crushers at Walmart and taking it with applesauce seemed like a good suggestion.

    New paL

I met with my surgeon at an earlier appointment and I did see him again at a preop appointment but I didn’t have to do any medical stuff except labs. They require ekg and stuff like that as needed. If you don’t have any medical issues or risk factors you probably won’t need one.
