  1. Many people say they don’t feel restriction until AFTER soft foods. Some of us though (assuming I am not the only one) are able to eat more at any given stage since the beginning of the process. According to the NP nothing is wrong and I didn’t do anything wrong my pouch is just a little bigger. I just had to measure my food and stop either when I felt satisfied or when the food was gone (I did not wait until I felt full). This had worked out fine for me. It took some getting used to, stopping before I felt full but after waiting a few minutes I realized I was satisfied anyways. Most likely you just haven’t felt your restriction because of cut nerves or because the food is not solid BUT if you are like me you will be fine too. I am almost 9 months out and I am about ten pounds from goal. Now I see you are bypass. I guess the same advice to measure and stop when you are done applies though.

    Going back to work

Can’t really help with the bathroom issues but I set alarms on my phone to remind me to drink. Not everytime cause that would be distracting but like every hour and at that point I would assess whether I had been drinking as I should in that hour (if not then hold the water bottle or do whatever you gotta to catch up). Also, if you do get dehydrated again you should be able to call your doctor and have them arrange for you to get fluids as an out patient (you don’t have to go to the ER).

    Surgery date set for January

Congratulations on your surgery date!! There is also a thread called “January surgery buddies” where you will find several people with January dates.
  4. I have never been but was looking at Aldi’s website and they also have cauliflower pizza.

    Water water water

Wow, that means you are only getting 25% of the water you used to. It must be about convenience and you are only still drinking at the same times you used to but consuming much less at those times. This may sound obvious but you have to drink more often. Find new times that you drink such as while in the car or on the phone or while walking through the neighborhood. Even at night if you get up to pee. Try to start new habits to increase the number of times a day you are drinking.

    Weight gain

There is not a way to shrink your stomach. Although I doubt you really stretched it. It sounds like your not necessarily eating too much food at one sitting but rather eating the wrong foods and perhaps even eating too many times a day?? If that’s the case you just have to go back to your weight loss plan and eat on plan foods. IF your stomach is “stretched” that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. It can be done without the restriction. I have been able to physically eat more than I am supposed to at every phase of this process for some reason so I just have to measure my food and eat what I’m supposed to and that seems to be working. Yes, I do tend to want to continue to eat until I feel that full feeling but I know I really shouldn’t so I stop and in a few minutes I do tend to feel satisfied (I think that part is a mind thing).

    Potatoes 5 weeks out

I have tried them and they go down fine but I try to stay away from them just because I know myself with carbs. I can’t eat just once. After I have them I crave them for days.

    Weight gain

I don’t think if you really stretched it that there is a way to shrink it but you CAN still go back to eating smaller portions and eat until you are satisfied instead of full. I don’t know if this is quite as easy as having restriction kick in but it is doable. For whatever reason I have always been able to eat more than I should at each stage so I just measure out what I am supposed to eat and make myself stop there. Trust me, not feeling full I want to eat more but I don’t. And after I wait a few minutes I usually realize that it was enough and I am no longer hungry. Try measuring again and at least stop eating and give you body a few minutes to feel full. Hopefully this will help.

    Liquid protein supplement

I was able to get in my protein between the shakes and the clear protein drinks. I did try the unflavored powder but I could taste it and didn’t like it.

    High BMI and….

If you are self pay I have heard of people with BMI as low as 30 having the surgery. If you are looking for insurance to pay it will probably be bmi of 35 WITH a comorbidity or BMI of 40 without. Don’t be so sure you don’t have a comorbidity though. Many overweight people have sleep apnea. Many teams will send you for a sleep study right off the bat.

    Paxil and Sleeve

I don’t take Paxil but I do take a mood stabilizer and an antidepressant so I asked about meds and i was told that with sleeve typically it is only the extended release medications that cause issues. Of course there is always the outliers so you should stay in close touch with your doctor if you don’t feel the same but typically dosage will stay the same. After they lose weight, some people are able to reduce their dosages of antidepressants.

    Chocolate cravings!!!

Quest makes candy bites that are chocolate and the caramel one is quite tasty. They are 80 calories if I remember correctly and they at least have some protein in them. Perhaps that will fill you up a bit and you will want just one. I found them at target but but not my target. They have them on Amazon if you can’t find them near you.

    Skin

You look young so you have that going for you but how long You have been overweight and genetics also play A role as well as how much weight you intend to lose. I am in my early 40’s and I have lost 66 pounds and so far I do not see any loose skin however I am still 6 pounds from the top of the normal range for my BMI. I have a feeling if I decided to adjust my goal And I did get much smaller I may have some. But I agree with others that You can’t prevent it if it’s going to happen and the only way to get rid of it is surgery. The good news is that if you have a lot, and can prove it is causing you issues you may be able to get insurance to pay to have it removed. There are plastic surgery forums where you Can ask about how that works. I was warned that I did not have enough weight to lose to have enough skin to qualify for insurance to pay before my surgery. I sorta guessed from that statement that the more you have to lose the better your chances are of insurance paying for plastics. Which makes sense I guess a bigger loss equals more excess skin.

    Reading labels.

I know that we Mostly all had to see a nutritionist or dietician of some sort pre surgery at least once but I’m guessing we have all received varying levels of education about labels. I know that my appointment they just went over the post op diets early stages nothing after real food and nothing about calories, carbs, sugars, etc. i was just thinking I may not be the only one feeling sorta lost in this new world of trying to read labels to make better choices and thought maybe a thread to ask questions related to this might be beneficial to others as well. I am almost 9 months post op and I still have a shake for breakfast and lunchable or P3 for lunch almost every day to keep calories low so I can have a couple low calorie snacks and a sensible dinner. I only pay close attention to the calories now but I glance at the percentages of carbs And sugars and just make sure they are not super high. I know I have a lot to learn about labels. Any advice would be appreciated. Was anyone given specific numbers to not exceed daily? And anyone else with questions I don’t know to ask please jump in. I’m sure we can all learn something helpful.
  18. I have heard that hot tea can make you feel full by others. Perhaps that will work for you when you know you shouldn’t be hungry.
  19. Man that stinks. Well I guess I made you feel a little better cause at least you can go back somewhat easily. Did you see the post someone tried to start about favorite ALDI products. I am hoping that it takes off so I can just reference that thread when making a list the first time I go. Are there any must haves that you recommend?

    January surgery anyone?

Ooh no. I am so sorry. Did they at least give you some idea of when you should be rescheduled??
  21. Living in south Florida this is not a terribly bad thing. I used to sweat a lot. To the point that I sought out meds for excessive sweating. I would sweat Standing still in the shade. 65 pounds less insulation and I don’t get cold but I don’t sweat anymore either unless I am in the direct south Florida sun or doing some physical activity. My husband freezes though (he is just naturally slim and fit) so I get what you mean. He will be wearing a light jacket in the middle of summer outside and everyone around is comfortable or even hot. It’s weird.

    Reading labels.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a particular nutrition textbook? I googled just to see what was out there and there are so many to choose from. I put a call into my dr office and the NP directed me to fda.govs website on the new nutrition labels which I just checked out and it was helpful to understand the information it is giving and why they feel each thing is important but I think I am ready to learn in more detail now. One thing I found interesting with the new label is that the serving size is NOT a Recommendation of how much we should eat. It is just the amount they think the average person does eat. I was using that as a recommendation of how much I should eat so I learned something today at least.

    Reading labels.

A textbook is a great idea. Something that someone studying to become a nutritionist or dietician would start out with. Yea that cauliflower pasta has cauliflower as the first ingredient but it also lists three kinds of flour so it’s not exactly pure. These are the things I want to be able to recognize. Yea I just have the lunchable or P3 out of convenience. Well that and I am a creature of habit. I guess I could stand to switch it up a bit at lunchtime. I just get lazy and do what works. Lol. Anyways, thanks for the idea of the textbook and the suggestions.
  24. I am only 9 months out but I had breast implants years ago. I know it’s not the same but I just wanted to add that maybe a cleaning girl would be helpful. That’s the stuff that I was tempted to do that I shouldn’t and they would probably be willing to reach a few things from the top shelf for you while they were there. I had a home health aide come in to check on me daily after my implants and after a melonoma excision and I didn’t feel like they did anything and remember thinking I would have rather have someone to pick up things a little. Just something to think about.
  25. I’m so sorry this is happening to you. I know I would have been so upset if anything delayed my surgery. Try to take advantage of the time by practicing you new habits for post surgery. Eating slowly has been the hardest thing for me to master. I am almost 9 months out and my husband still has to remind me to slow down.
