    First Appointment Jitters

Its honestly not an interview, your medical history will speak for itself as to whether you need the surgery since it is a medical decision. I was nervous too so I get it but try to relax. Maybe come prepared with some questions you have for them so if you feel yourself getting worked up you can ask them to do the talking for a bit.

    Liquid protein

I had issues with shakes tasting too sweet early on too. It has caffeine so follow your teams rules on that but if your allowed it and like coffee flavor the premiere protein caffe latte was the only one I could tolorate the taste of.

    Soup and Drinking

I would assume the others are on the right track. The water would just dilute the nutrients from the food and leave less room for the nutritious food.
  4. If you show signs of dehydration contact your team and they should be able to arrange for you to get fluids as an outpatient. I didn’t have to go to the ER to get fluids.
  5. My only issue was joint pain and that has eased up quite a bit with the weight loss. I wouldn’t lose hope quite yet though, you still have a little ways to go until goal so you may still see relief from some of those conditions. Hopefully all. I do see a lot of people on here saying that those types of things did resolve with post surgery. I just don’t know how close to goal they were when it happened.

    VSG

Everyone’s preop diet is different. Mine was low fat carb sugar for two weeks and two days liquid and that was hard enough. Some people have to do several weeks liquid. I would just count your blessings if I were you.

That is awesome. Good for you.

    Gastric bypass issues

Gradycat said it. The one thing I am happy about with sleeve is that My labs are good vitamin wise with only a multivitamin and Calcium at 10 months out. I am hoping I will be able to get off the vitamins alltogether once I reach maintenance. With bypass people tend to need more vitamins.
  9. Scrambled eggs and grilled fish were my first couple of things I tried on soft foods. Then I needed fiber because I was constipated and NP said to oversteam veggies and I had a lot of broccoli and zucchini as snacks. The broccoli you have to cut all the stems off at first but shortly after I was eating the smaller stems without issue.
  10. I didn’t cheat but my pre op diet was a little easier than most it was meat and low carb veggies plus I had free foods like jello, lettuce and pickles (had a few pickle salads though, lol). I have heard of people that did and they were okay but I would try not to anymore. Post op, assuming no real hunger pains it is a little easier so you just have to get through these next few days. You can do it. Just think about all the reasons why you want this surgery and when you want to eat read threads on here such as “weirdest non scale victories” or “what is your why” (I think that’s it) to remind you of all the changes you are working towards.

    January Surgery buddies

They have these sponge things they call lollipops that they can soak in water and give you. I did not get them personally but my grandma has a hernia and couldn’t have water and she got them and ice chips. Also, chapstick comes in handy.

    Pregnant after sleeve

I would see a doctor asap. I’m sure there are things you can do to reduce the risks but the sooner the better. If you have a hard time getting in, see if your surgeons office can help.
  13. You just have to get through a few more days of this and most likely you won’t feel hunger for quite some time (a small percentage do). You just have to do whatever it takes to distract yourself and keep thinking of the end goal. You can do this.

    End goal weight

I picked two goals. One that was a weight I remembered feeling confident enough to go out and do things such as bowling league which was 180 and then 160 which is a few pounds below a “normal” BMI for me. I got to 180 fairly easily but now I am stuck at 169 and having a hard time losing. Still, even if I don’t get to 160 I feel the surgery was a success if I can maintain below 180. If I do start losing again at a steady rate I will shoot for 150 so I have a better cushion within the normal BMI range. So basically I suggest having a couple or even a few goals and adjusting as you get closer to each.

    Low BMI pre op question

I had a 35 BMI and was worried about dropping too much weight on the pre op diet and worried I needed a buffer pound or two. Turned out for my team it didn’t matter how much you lost on pre op diet, they go by your weight before that diet when deciding if you qualify for the surgery. Just know that if you go back to old ways post surgery that you will gain it back just as you would with a regular diet. The restriction and the temporary loss of appetite (most have this) makes it a little easier to lose the weight but you have to change your habits to keep it off. I like to think of it as getting a clean slate. But it’s real easy to dirty that slate up again if you don’t take full advantage and make the necessary changes.
  17. Hopefully you are on the other side of surgery healing well. Update as soon as you feel able. 👍
  18. Around 3-5 pounds each month but stalled at 10 months so far (6 pounds from normal BMI) ugh!!

    Disappointed Surgeons

I think your weight loss sounds good. I was a slow loser and I am sitting (stalled unfortunately) at 9 pounds from goal now. It’s not a race to get there as long as you are losing and continue losing you will be fine. Honestly you are eating such small portions it doesn’t matter that much what you are eating now (within reason). My plan even included things like mashed potatoes on the purée phase which others cringe at. I think because of situations just like yours where it is all you can get down and you have to eat something.
  20. My husband got me a fancy scale for Xmas and it measures body fat and bone density and all that. Downsides though are that it even says on the directions that the best way to measure is with clean bare damp feet (who wants to wet their feet to get on the scale) also, you have to create a profile for each person and then select your profile to get accurate measurement for you. Not deal breakers if you really want that info but I also heard that excess skin significantly interferes with the current that the scale sends through to measure those things. Idk. I have it now and I like that the scale part seems more consistent than my old one but it doesn’t really seem worth the expense if it’s not accurate.

Wth have I done to myself panic…

Are you having a hard time getting protein and fluids down or a lot of pain? Difficulty with the liquid diet? It gets way better with each day of recovery and each phase back to normal food. I was so worried about being able to feel normal again that as soon as I was medically allowed I tried many of my favorite foods just to be sure I could toloratw them. Many people would frown upon this during weight loss phase but I had a small amount just so I would know that eventually I will be able to enjoy these foods in moderation again. Now at ten months out I am 9 pounds from goal so light at the end of the tunnel. I couldn’t be happier about my choice to have the surgery.
  22. Idk about this. I have always been told the same as you not to skip it especially on a diet but I swear if I eat breakfast I eat more throughout the day.
  23. Premiere protein has a variety pack for sale on Amazon. Not sure if they sell it in stores. I’ve not seen it at my Walmart or target. I don’t know if they ever added the caffe latte to the variety pack but it’s really good if you like coffee drinks (it has caffeine in it).
  24. Don’t stock up on too much that someone else won’t eat. Our tastes often change post surgery, especially for sweet things such as protein shakes. I ended up haven’t a couple cases of shakes that I couldn’t stand post surgery.
