  1. If your surgery didn’t go on and they couldn’t fill your slot the surgeon would lose a huge chunk of money. Because of that I seriously doubt they would schedule you unless they were very certain you were going to be approved. I know it’s hard but try not to worry about it. Just remind yourself of how many times you have worried needlessly about things that worked out Just fine (I know I’ve done my fair share).
  2. Your doing great!!! Keep it up.
  3. I agree with others. It’s just a fluctuation. Weigh yourself less often.

Went to see my doctor today....

Congratulations, you look incredible. Getting off of some of the meds is the best NSV though. Keep up the good work.
  5. I like the cream of chicken and the broccoli cheese soups but I strained the chunks out with a mesh strainer. Walmart deli has soups that are similar to Panara. They have quite a few flavors now. I like the panara broccoli cheese better than the Walmart one but some of theirs are just as good.

Pain at 3 weeks post op

I agree it can’t hurt to run it by your team. It should be getting a little better day by day. To feel the same as day one at three weeks out I would make sure to tell them that.

    Teeth Issues After Surgery?

Okay I went to the dentist today and he said my issues would not be related to my surgery. My chipped fillings he is guessing have to do with teeth clenching or grinding. Anyways, just wanted to update that it definitely doesn’t have to do with surgery.

    I’m back after 13 years!

51 down, 40 to go. You can do this.
  11. I second what kcuster said. I didn’t do it alone but I pretty much did. My husband dropped me off before work and stopped by to visit after when he watched tv for a few minutes and then left. Granted he would’ve been more present if I needed him but I did not have a lot of pain or any issues really. When I got home from hospital I took care of myself. He popped in and asked if I needed anything a few times but quickly realized I was managing on my own just fine. I would have the number handy for a visiting nurse just in case you have a tougher recovery but so long as you have a typical one you should be just fine.
  12. Many doctors will do the surgery with a BMI of 30 but most insurance will not pay for anything lower than 35. Tons of studies have shown that the surgery does reduce comorbidities but if you say he has a strong family history it may not. Is his family also obese? My husband and his family are all very slim and they almost all have high blood pressure. He doesn’t even like salt and buys all low sodium foods. It’s just genetic sometimes.
  13. Maybe try the clear protein drinks. If it’s the milk In the shake you should be fine with those. Take it slow though in case it’s the sweetener. If so there are several that are used and you may only have an issue with a certain one.
  14. As usually I couldn’t have said it any better than arabesque. Glad you decided to tell your family that they have helped you through the worst of it and you can take it from here. This entire process is just a learning curve just take it one day at a time and you’ve got this.

    Gas and “smells”

Ooh I have heard that poo pouri stuff works. I always just used matches (pre surgery) like if I stayed in a hotel with someone on business trip or when I used a single shared restroom in the office.
  16. Just keep in mind that it is possible to have TOO much protein and it can be bad for you. I think it’s bad for your kidneys. Everyone’s protein goal will be different. Check with your team. It may be okay to go over as a short term strategy but I would check with your dr to make sure.

    Gas and “smells”

I had sleeve and I haven’t noticed any difference in either. I did have issues with constipation in the beginning but even that I was able to wean myself off of the fiber as I got to normal serving sizes of things. Many people do have long term issues with constipation though and need to take something as preventative.
  18. Of course that’s a decision only you can make but I wouldn’t worry about your weight getting worse. If you do wait for insurance it doesn’t mean you can’t start making a lot of changes now that will help you lose a good deal of weight while you are waiting. I have seen people on here lose big chunks before their surgery. I would start working with a nutritionist that your team recommends NOW and Start working on the other requirements. If the psychiatrist finds any disordered eating patterns you will want time to work on those and be in such a better place post op if you have done so before your surgery.

    For the ladies

I wasn’t on it for surgery but when I did get it it lasted longer than normal and I also had breakthrough bleeding in between. It normalized after around the third month.
  20. You need fluids and if you are already dehydrated you are not going to just push through. If I were you I would call my dr back and ask for him to arrange for fluids at the very least. I would also go to urgent care or the ER and ask for an ekg (they may be able to do fluids as well at urgent care but definitely can at ER if you want to get both taken care of now and be done with it). I agree with starwarsandcupcakes that heart palpitations are not to be taken lightly. Could be nothing but could also be something serious. Better to be safe than sorry. Plus, it’s probably worth it to feel better. They can figure out a nausea Med that actually works if just the fluids doesn’t help tremendously which they probably will if you are dehydrated cause it causes nausea. And in terms of your family suggesting you exercise. I agree it’s important to try to get up and move around some to prevent blood clots at this point if you can safely but you can worry about exercising later when you feel better. And If you can’t do it safely then you definitely need to Have someone take you to the ER.

    SURGERY IN OCTOBER

I did do a “last supper” because I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to eat the foods I love ever again. It was all sorta silly now looking back because I can eat anything I want. I don’t have anything I cannot tolerate in moderation. Basically it was just that much more I had to lose post op. I didn’t go crazy though thankfully so it wasn’t like it was that big of a deal. Just remember the more carbs and stuff you have the more you crave them. So if you have that junk the last couple nights before your pre op diet it will be that much harder to stick to the pre op. I had my last supper a week before so that I could detox from the carbs and stuff BEFORE I had to start the pre op diet. Something to consider.

    insurance frustration

Ahhh the insurance hurdle blues. At least you know that they will cover eventually though. Try to focus on that. I believe they only have 30 days to approve or deny so it shouldn’t be much longer.
  23. Welcome and congratulations on your decision to have surgery. As others have mentioned there is a mens only forum if it’s really gender specific question but it usually does not get as much traffic as the general forums. You could try there but if you don’t get many responses possibly just start the topic with men only please and your age preference and then ask your questions in a more general forum if you just are wanting answers from a males perspective.

    3 weeks Post Gastric Sleeve

I was told if I had any issues progressing through the stages to go back to the prior step for a while. If you just feel sick at the idea of purée foods maybe you should stick with the liquids until it’s safe for you to move to solids. I couldn’t eat things that were not usually purée consistency either. I ate the ricotta bake and refried beans or mashed potatoes during that whole stage.

    Mac N Cheese

I have bought cauliflower Mac n cheese and it was just cauliflower with the cheese sauce like from a packet and I have made it. I actually posted the recipe on here and it used real cheese which was healthier but not quite as cheesy so it may or may not hit the spot like boxed or homemade Mac n cheese. I know you can buy just the cheese sauce packet at dollar tree. It would certainly be better to have it over cauliflower than pasta but it should probably still be just a special treat on rare occasion once you get to maintenance ideally.
