    Just starting my journey!

I had to do 6 visits of medically managed weight loss which took 5 months after my initial consultation so my first appt to surgery was just about 6 months. Not everyone is required to do that though and some require only 3 months.
  2. Try adding a soluble fiber to your diet if your team agrees with it. I found the generic for benefiber at Walmart. I used milk of magnesia once immediately post surgery so I would have a movement, then from the next morning on, I mixed a spoonful of the fiber in a glass of crystal light and I never had any more issues with constipation. I eventually weaned myself off of it once I got back to a more normal portion size but some people have to stay on something preventative forever.

    Weight loss Surgery

You may be surprised. Exercise is very important for your health and helps to keep weight off but it does only contribute a small amount to weight loss from what I have been told. If you have gone a while and truly aren’t losing anything you may have to cut back on calories a bit but I would think you may just lose a little slower. I guess the best way to figure out how your body responds is just to keep logging and if you aren’t losing try cutting back 100 calories or so and see if that helps get the scale moving again. You may want to consider some seated exercises you can do for your upper body in the meantime just to keep yourself In the habit as well.
  4. It could just be your PCOS, unfortunately. I just read another post of someone who had unexplained weight gain with it the other day. Try not to feel defeated or give up though. Even if you didn’t lose another pound which hopefully you will you are still better off than you were before surgery. Or at least that’s what I try to tell myself (I have bipolar and it’s similarly difficult for me to lose it all and keep it off because of the meds and depression). I would keep asking the drs and nutritionist for advice and try what they are suggesting (hopefully something does work for you) but don’t be too hard on yourself if it doesn’t. I know that for me that if I hadn’t done surgery a year and a half ago I would probably be even heavier now than I was before I started all this (I was gaining about ten pounds a year) so the fact that I am somewhat smaller instead of even bigger is certainly better than nothing. I may not fit into my skinny jeans but at least my knees don’t hurt when I exercise like they were beginning to pre surgery. Trust me, I know it doesn’t seem fair and it gets to me some days too but I just try my best to maintain what I have lost because I know that every pound I can keep off is better for my health. You are currently down 57 pounds!! That is definitely something you should be proud of and if I were you I would celebrate that loss. Don’t just give up on losing the rest by any means, but at the same time don’t be too hard on yourself either. Our bodies and circumstances are all different. Try to focus on the non scale victories that I’m sure you have already seen with a 57 pound loss when it starts to get you down.

    Eating Hurts - Any Tips?

Yea I agree. If at any time you have trouble progressing to the next stage back up a step for a Few days and then try again. It’s not an exact science because everyone heals at different rates.

    Medications

i second what spartanmaker says. Always check with your doctor or pharmacist before cutting, crushing or breaking any meds. It can actually be dangerous otherwise.

    Just starting my journey!

Start a list of questions and take them with you because the appointments seem to go so fast. My first question would be whether you have to do the 3 or 6 months of medically managed weight loss attempt (to prove to insurance you can’t do it on your own). If you do ask if you do it with them. If so, you will have lots of visits to get your questions answered by the team so that takes off a bit of the pressure to think of everything this one time. Although you may still only meet with the surgeon once so try to be prepared for that visit if you have questions for them. Have you decided on which surgery you would like to have? They will most likely have a recommendation for you. Especially if you have a medical reason to choose one over the other but some people get a choice.

    Post Op sugery

If you do not have a recliner maybe try a bed wedge from medical supply or Amazon. It simulates an adjustable bed with the head raised up. If that doesn’t work and you still seriously cannot sleep see about renting something from medical supply store. I’m not sure if you can rent a recliner but I know you can rent a hospital bed if that was more comfortable.
  10. I did a couple food funerals too. In retrospect it was kinda silly (just more weight to lose in the long run) because I am able to eat absolutely anything I could pre surgery (smaller portions of course). Some people have one or two things they do not tolerate the same post surgery but I have yet to see anyone say they feel like they are missing out on those foods. It’s like if they make you feel sick you no longer crave them i guess. Of course It won’t totally derail you or anything to have a last supper or the such but there is really no reason to overdo it either.

    Medications

We’re you told you HAVE to crush them? I was taking my meds the day after surgery in the hospital. If you are having issues I would ask your team if you can try swallowing them.
  12. I would ask your team the reason for the no sodium disclaimer. I was allowed full sodium options and I imagine if you don’t have high blood pressure it would not be an issue but I am not a doctor. This could be for a reason that we do not understand so I would contact them and ask.
  13. Purées didn’t appeal much to me either. I had to stick with things that are supposed to be purée like the ricotta bake, refried beans ans mashed potatoes.

    4 weeks down!

I Did not experience more frequent urination post surgery but I do urinate a lot. I tried a medication called oxybutinin which is an incontinance medication off label for excessive sweating recently. It didn’t help with the sweating but I didn’t notice that I went to the restroom about half as often. Perhaps you could take something like that while your out at certain events or traveling if the issue persists? Hopefully it’s just because you aren’t used to drinking so much water and your body adjusts to it soon. Congratulations on kicking two of the meds. That’s awesome.
  15. I set a goal of a weight that I achieved through diet but of course couldn’t maintain for even a short time. I surpassed it a little but then gained back to right around that weight which seems to be where my body is happy. Your body is ultimately going to decide for you what your set point is. You can exercise more and eat less to maintain a slightly lower weight but you will struggle daily to lose more than your body wants. Your are smart to set mini goals though and you should celebrate every single one of them as you go. Congratulations on your loss so far.
  16. 27 pounds at 7 weeks seems good to me. Congratulations. I just had the sleeve but from what I understand the process is very similar for a revision and Stalls are pretty common. The first one USUALLY being right around the third week. Sounds like your is just arriving a little late. They can last a short while and the best thing to do is to stay the course but stay away from the scale. It will start moving again soon. Hang in there.
  17. Lots of people on here think about getting a revision for way too long. If you are suffering from gerd I would be more worried about that than the weight first. I would Get the revision process started asap and you can even ask the surgeon for the best reset diet while you are there.

    How fast?

It is so hard to answer this question cause we all have such different starting stats. I agree with one thing, though, there is nothing slow about 1/2 pound a day. Nothing at all. And be prepared cause the closer you get to a more “normal” bmi it slows to a crawl. I lost about 1/2 pound a MONTH for several months before my body just stopped losing.

I REALLY hate PCOS...I feel defeated...

I have bipolar disorder and my team warned me that people with it, statistically, do not lose as much weight as those without. Well, they were right, I didn’t, and now at a year and a half out I have started gaining a bit. I completely understand where you are coming from. It just doesn’t seem fair. I try to keep reminding myself that I am still much better off than I was though. Even if I can’t fit into my skinny jeans my knees don’t hurt like they were beginning to before surgery and at the rate I was going (about ten pounds a year) I would be even heavier now with even more pain. Try not to think of it as all for nothing. Your loss you have achieved is definitely something and of you can keep the majority of it off you are still better off now than if you did not have the surgery.

    Thrive

If I were you I would ask your team about this. I have heard people who swear by the product. I just don’t know if it is good for us or if it is just overpriced vitamins. Personally if I considered it the one I would ask would be the NP for my team. She does a ton of research into stuff like this so she can give informed answers. If I think of it I will ask her at my next appointment in November because now I’m curious.
  21. If you are eating as you should it is humanly impossible for you to be gaining weight. As spartanmaker said It take about an extra 3500 calories just to gain ONE pound of fat. This early out you would have to eat all day on purpose to do that. Little fluctuations are common. That’s why most of our teams say to stay away from the scale. I know after sooooo many failed diet attempts it’s hard but try to trust the process. If you follow your plan it works!!
  22. I haven’t tried it but have heard of people freezing their protein shakes and eating them the same way if you are having a hard time getting protein as well. Or you could get the clear protein drinks and freeze those. I bet it would be alot like a popsicle

Fainting and Low Heart Rate 8 Years Out

I have heard of people who have lower heart rates post surgery and those who get dizzy but not many who actually faint multiple times. I am glad you are seeing someone and I really hope they get to the bottom of it.

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED

I don’t think the stomach they remove really weighs much. I didn’t lose any weight in the hospital. It’s possible that you were slightly dehydrated and lost more water weight in the beginning since you didn’t spend as much time at the hospital hooked up to fluids. Then when you got rehydrated your weight loss that week didn’t show because you added fluid weight?? There are honestly soooo many factors when you just went through major surgery that could cause weight gain or loss. It’s best to not even weigh yourself for the first few weeks. I would just look at the overall if I were you rather than trying to account for every pound because for six weeks out you are going great.
