What do you eat at the movies?

okay I just got my moon cheese and couldn’t wait to try it. I got the garlic parmesan and I’m not a fan. Neither is my hubby. Did I just pick a bad flavor?

    Ace bandages

Yea those clips are so annoying. I THINK they are a different material too with some rubber or something that makes one layer sorta stick to the next layer. I don’t think it’s rubber but something like it.

    Gas Pain

Trust me, i never had constipation before surgery so I never realized I would talk about my bowels so much or be so happy to have one. It’s a happy day when things get moving again. The stool softener was colace but I only needed it immediately post surgery. After I had a bowel movement I stopped taking it. But you may need it longer if still on pain meds. I took the benefiber daily for a while to keep ahead of the constipation. Walmart has a generic that is a powder and much cheaper. I just mixed in a spoonful to a glass of crystal light in the morning and I didn’t have any issues from there on. Some people still do and need something stronger daily but you could start with that and see how it works for you since you have it already and know you tolerate it okay. Once I got closer to a normal serving of things I weaned myself off of the benefiber and I don’t need anything now.

    Ace bandages

Maybe ask if you can use something like this. I knew I had seen ace bandages made out of different materials than cotton that looked less slippery. I’ve never tried these but it does say “non slip”?? Supra-Grip Elastic Bandage, 4" x 5.5 Yds, Pack of 10, Hook and Loop Closure, Non-Sterile, Washable and Resuable, Non-Slip Compression and Support https://a.co/d/4yjONhY

    Vitamin's I should take

I had sleeve and I was told to take a bariatric multi with iron and two calcium citrate daily to start. They do blood work at the three month follow up and adjust from there if necessary. My labs were good at 3 and 6 month and one year. That seems to be working for me. I take the procare health multivitamin with 45mg iron. That and the bariatric advantage chewable were recommended by my team. I started with the chewable and I didn’t think it tasted bad (some people hate the chewables though) but it was more expensive and you had to take it twice a day so I switched to the capsule at about one month out and that’s been fine for me. I have it on auto ship which is convenient and it qualifies me for free shipping. I did keep my leftover chewables in case they ever didn’t arrive on time but a year and a half later that has never been an issue. The calcium citrate I take is just a normal vitamin from Amazon (just make sure it’s “citrate” though. The other one doesn’t absorb as well for us.

    Vitamin's I should take

In the US we do B12 shots too, sometimes they are required post WLS too, just not always (sorry if that’s what you meant). From my experience the dr’s are kinda stingy with the B12 around here. Which is sorta odd because im pretty sure I’ve been told your body just pees out any excess (don’t quote me on that though). I was borderline low once in labs and they said the sublingual version would be sufficient so they seem to reserve the injections for more severe deficiencies. I guess that makes sense.

    Gas Pain

I never heard the rule about gas passing or not. Are you taking any stool softeners and have you tried anything to help you go? Do you feel like your bowels are full? I was on stool softeners from day one post op but like many people I still got constipated. I took milk of magnesia (just one dose) and that did the trick. I can’t remember exactly how many days they said to go before I took the milk of magnesia (sorry). Check your paperwork it should like your teams preference for medications to take and how many days to go before taking something for this issue. In terms of going to urgent care or not is up to you. To me if I have something going on it’s worth a few bucks for the peace of mind cause I get pretty bad anxiety but that’s up to you. You may get a more helpful response by calling your team though.

    Still Fighting

Well I’m glad you haven’t given up and that you have someone to help advocate for you now. Many people would just quit and that’s what they want. Hang in there.

    UTI and antibiotics

Ypu said your dr retired but is his practice still active. If so, I’m sure they would answer your question.

    Antibiotics after VSG?

I don’t THINK you should have any issues with any antibiotics? I believe it’s just NSAID’s that we are supposed to avoid but you can always ask is that okay with my surgery when they write the script just to be certain.

Who has had an MRI since sleeve surgery?

I am a year and a half out. I don’t have any problems eating at all. Sort of wish I had more restriction but I guess we are all different. It’s a little unusual to be having issues still at 8 months have you spoken to your team to make sure nothing is going on?

Who has had an MRI since sleeve surgery?

Okay i had sleeve and just had an MRI. She asked when I had it so I guess if your earlier out it may matter but I was fine.

    Heart rate

I haven’t heard anyone mention this one yet. I would check with your doctor.

    Worried About Doctors Honesty

I joked about whether they actually did anything other than the incisions because I didn’t have a lot of pain either and I never felt the restriction when I should. Then I had a theory my pouch could hold more cause I have a longer torso and wondered if that meant my stomach was taller. The NP said she doubts it has anything to do with my height but some peoples pouches are a little larger due to anatomy. Now that I am a year and a half out I still don’t feel restriction per se but I am satisfied with onw portion of most things and I can tell that I wouldn’t be able to eat plates full of food Ike I could pre surgery. I wonder if I am just not in tune with my full cues the same as some others are? did you feel the full cues after your first surgery? I agree with Arabesque that it’s most likely just unhealed nerves and excess acid causing your lack of restriction and hunger pains and those things will work themselves out in time. Definitely ask about a PPI if you are not on one yet And maybe ask for a copy of the surgical notes for your piece of mind.

    Calories

I didn’t even have a calorie goal that early out. I was just supposed to be more concerned with volume of food I was taking in.

What do you eat at the movies?

If you have a Sam’s club they have cauliflower chips that are 140 calories for 24 chips. 7g fat, 18g carbs. They are salty and crunch and tasty too. Moon cheese sounds better for you though
  18. Yea when i did try to eat way slower immediately post surgery I had to heat my meal back up several times

    hospital stay post sleeve surgery

Well they did put a nausea patch behind my ear before surgery and I think there are other meds they can give you before you wake up if you request them which help with nausea.

Back to work after one week??

I am curious to hear how this worked out for you. Have you had your surgery yet?

What do you eat at the movies?

I was told I could have popcorn after a while post op. I think if your team says to stay away from it it may be because it is a slider food (I would ask them). If I just ate from a bag or big bowl and didn’t pay attention I could eat quite a bit and restriction doesn’t kick in. Having said that, I like popcorn at the movies too. I take skinny pop with me in a ziplock and sneak it in. Ooh and if your movie theatre is in the mall it may allow you to bring actual food into the movie from the food court. Now whether you have anything descent to eat at your food court is the next question but Chick-fil-A has soup and nice salads if you have one of those and most pizza places have salads. I like to bring my own dressing when I eat salad out. I must confess I have never tried to eat salad or soup in a dark theatre though. Maybe a wrap if you have a healthier restaurant would be easier or chick fila has grilled nuggets. I don’t go to the theatre much but o have heard of people sneaking in all kinds of healthy snacks though from fruit or yogurt to veggies and dip

    hospital stay post sleeve surgery

Mine was extremely uneventful. The only issue I had was that I wasn’t peeing a lot at a time so they put a little pot in there to collect the urine and measure to make sure I was going enough that I didn’t need a catheter. Eventually my bladder woke up and that wasn’t an issue at all (i was peeing a lot cause of all those fluids). I was in very little pain. I actually asked to be taken off the pain meds and they suggested I do so slowly and then take Tylenol. I left the hospital with an rx for pain meds even though I was just on Tylenol at that point. I’m not sure if this was just out of habit or if they thought the pain may get worse or what but my husband filled it just in case. I never needed them. I really didn’t need to be there overnight to be honest. I mean I probably would’ve been fine if they had just pumped me full of fluids and sent me home but it was nice to know I was being monitored if I had any issues. They ended up sending me home the next day instead of making me stay the second night at least. The only thing I missed was having the bed rails to pull myself up getting in and out of the bed but I soon figured out how to roll out of my bed at home. Anyways, after surgery you go to a recovery unit for a little while and the nurse there was great. She had me up and walking while I was in recovery which apparently people were surprised I was able to do cause they kept calling me a rock star?. I ended up staying in recovery a bit longer than necessary cause they didn’t have a room for me so by the time I was up to my room I was totally with it. I had to ask for them to walk with me the first time cause they didn’t ask me to do it and it had been hours. Then my husband got there and he took me when he first got there and again before he left. Finally I asked if I could just go by myself cause He wasn’t really doing anything to help and I seemed to be fine (I didn’t feel dizzy or anything). I never did have any gas pain either but all I knew was how important everyone said it was to walk so I made sure to do it just in case. I’m trying to remember what else happened. Honestly it was pretty boring. I had my iPad and if you don’t have it you may want to sign up for the free trial of Netflix and you will have plenty to watch at least in the hospital and when you get home. That’s what I did was watch Netflix all day and night. There is a tv of course so you don’t need it but since I have the subscription anyways i brought the tablet and I used it. Ooh and It was noisy at night so I was glad I had my headphones too. Basically that was it though, I wasn’t very sleepy cause I wasn’t on strong meds. I did take a short nap or two but I’m a very light sleeper So I mostly just watched Netflix. I had a little of my broth when they brought it in a couple times and took my meds when they brought those. You can’t shower but they do give you a washcloth to freshen up which I did the next morning and as soon as they said they were working on getting me released I got myself all changed and packed up. I was ready to go home but honestly it wasn’t that bad.
  23. I slowed wayyyy down early out, watching the clock between bites and while I chewed, but I never did have any issues from eating too quickly. I am a year and a half out now and I eat pretty fast. My husband is always joking with me that nobody is going to take my food. Lol I do also measure out my food though and my pouch is on the larger side so I don’t really have a chance to overeat. It is really ideal to eat as slow as you can so that your full cues have a chance to warn you before you overeat.

    Stalled

I feel like you mentioned the carbs because you sorta know you are having too many. Have you been logging them? Everyone’s plan is different, though. Mine didn’t really limit carbs specifically but in order to get In Enough protein there almost wasn’t room for alot of them. As long as you are sticking to your plan it’s probably just a stall which will break on its own but if you are having like a lot a lot of carbs this is definitely something you could consider cutting back on.
  25. Aha. That could work. And it would be an even quicker dinner prep. I guess you don’t have much to lose by trying since it’s garbage otherwise.
