    I need cofffeeeee NOW!

I was asked if I wanted coffee in the hospital as well. And I have been drinking the caffe latte shakes (which have caffeine) every morning ever since like one week post op.

ProCare Health One A Day Vitamin

Well I have my appointment tomorrow and I got labs last week so I guess we will see if my iron is low. I have been on this vitamin for two months and I’ve been taking it with my protein shake every morning. Oops. Before that I was fine but I was taking a two a day so I got the iron from the evening one I bet.

ProCare Health One A Day Vitamin

I never thought of the calcium in the shake but I can’t remember if it’s iron that doesn’t absorb because of calcium or calcium that doesn’t absorb because of iron. I know I get plenty of calcium outside of the shake but I just looked and my Protein shake does have calcium in it I need to look further into this so glad you pointed it out
  4. I would ask the surgeon about what’s best to take. There is no reason for you to go into surgery all worried about anything. Not when there are meds to help.

    CPAP on Surgery Day

I don’t use a cpap but I do recall that being on the list of things to bring to hospital.

    June Surgeries

Eating at a set time helps. I eat at 6, 12 and 6 with snacks at 9 and 3. This means I am eating something every three hours (protein shake counts as eating here). In the beginning I set alarms to remind me to eat.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

For what it’s worth I stuck to my liver shrink diet 100% and my dr commented on what a good job I did to both my husband and then myself when I woke up. I had very little pain afterwards and like to think that it’s partially because my liver was shrunken down so much and out of the way that the surgery was a little easier and caused less bruising and stuff. Possibly just coincidence but I like to think my hard work was worth it. Your already past the hardest part (first couple days) you’ve got this.

    Moms that do it all

I second what jayew said. I do not have children (just super spoiled nieces and nephews) but I have a very easy recovery. I was tired and took lots of naps. After day two that was the only reason I even felt like I had surgery was that I napped a lot. There are lots of people who would probably say the same on here we just don’t feel the need to post about it because we don’t need any help. The people who have a tough time of it are the ones who of course need some help so you hear more from them. Fingers crossed you will have an easy recovery too.

    No weight loss

It is humanly impossible to be gaining weight on 400-450 calories. Just stick to the plan and the downward trend will pick up.
  10. I remember the feeling wanting to do everything I could to prepare but I wouldn’t stock up too much. Post op many people have taste changes especially with sweet things like the protein shakes. (I had to give away two- 12 packs because I didn’t like them post op and hubby didn’t either). Anyways, Amazon has a variety pack of the premier protein that would be good to sample shakes post op. Maybe some other brands sell variety packs as well. I wish I had just stuck to those. Then you can just have shakes delivered in whatever flavor you can tolerate.

    Mushy food phase

I ate a lot of ricotta bake and retried beans as well as chicken, egg and tuna salad. Mostly the ricotta bake though.

    Breakfast ideas?

The first thing I tried was scrambled eggs. But even at 7 months out my go to is premiere protein shake caffe latte. It fills me up till lunch. I’m not sure carnation instant breakfast has as much protein in it. If not you could add extra protein powder or switch to protein shakes.
  13. A lot of people wait until their in maintenance to have desert for the first time but I wanted to know if I was going to dump on sugar so I had half of a candy bar to see how I tolerated it. I didn’t dump so now I know that I can have sugar in moderation during maintenance and I haven’t really craved it since. I have recently discovered the quest candy bites. The caramel ones are my favorite. They are small so it’s only like 80 calories and there is at least some protein in them.

    Food Before and After Photos

Looks delicious. How many calories (do you know)?
  15. Glad you figured it out.
  16. I agree 100% you need to be able to use your arm to lift yourself. I worried when I went home from hospital I wouldn’t be able to get up without pulling myself up using the bed rails. I figured it out but I definitely used my arms. Sorry to hear of your setback but glad to hear you have a game plan and look forward to hearing more of your story.

    Jumping in

Happy to hear you have a good doctor who took the time to advocate for you. Fingers crossed you will get a surgery date this year.

    School After Surgery

Unless you have any unforeseen complications you should be just fine that far out. I agree with asking your doctor about compression stockings for the flight and getting up and walking during the flight.

    Just a taste?

I admit that I have tried a bit of off plan foods but it wasn’t really to get just a taste it was because I wanted to know if I was going to have an intolerance to certain foods or if I would get dumping syndrome. I didn’t and I haven’t craved any of those foods again. Now that I know I will be able to have these foods In moderation in the future, I think I can now complete the weight loss phase without having any of that stuff again.

    Chickpea "Pasta"

Is there a trick to cooking the chickpea pasta? I cooked it according to directions and it was still very chewy. Compared to pasta it would be about half done. Does it just not get to the consistency of aldente pasta? Should I cook longer than directions state?? I really want to like it but so far it’s not even close to pasta to me.

On my 2 week pre op liquid diet

I am only seven months out and at five months out I have tried little bits of any and everything I had pre surgery to include pasta, chocolate, pizza, etc. I had these things ONCE because I wanted to know if I could tolorate them and I can so I haven’t really wanted them again. Now that I know that once weight loss phase is over that I can enjoy all the foods that I used to love on occasion I do not feel as deprived on the weight loss phase. My point being that as others have said, you will eat the foods you love again. Just in much smaller portions (but you will be okay with the smaller portions).
  22. I would be concerned but at the same time I would be thankful that you decided to consider this route before it was too late (before your BMI was even higher and the surgeon was not comfortable performing the surgery). I would try to lose as much weight as possible pre surgery. Every bit will help to make the surgery even safer. You can even ask to start with the nutritionist now to drop some of the weight.
  23. I second the possible reaction to artificial sweeteners. I told my best friend to try the twizzlers zero and she said they are the best laxitive she ever had. If the same sweeteners are in the jello and your shake it is very likely that as your culprit. Glad to hear you got some medicine and some relief.
  24. I don’t spend much time prepping meals at all. I have protein shake for breakfast, P3 protein pack for lunch and usually chicken or fish for dinner. It’s kinda boring but it’s simple. Luke others said, You can do more if you want to. I just don’t do a lot of cooking so this works for me.

    Individual protein bars

I wonder if target carries them individually. I know that they carry a lot of protein bar options I just can’t recall if they sell them individually.
