    Thanksgiving Strategy on Soft Foods

You can always tell others that you have to eat another thanksgiving dinner so you are trying not to overdo it. I used to have to go three places with my ex and I actually had to eat smaller portions at each place. People seemed to understand that.
  2. I suffer from anxiety as well and have had a handful of full blown attacks. I was actually surprised that my anxiety level going into this was not through the roof. I think it helped that the surgeon operated on my uncle twice and they think he is the best doctor ever and a friend of a friend just got the same surgery done by him and had no issues either. I also read that the chances of dying are less than the chance of dying in a car crash and I figure the chance of a car crash doesn’t stop me from driving so why would a similar chance of a severe complication stop me from getting a surgery I want and need. Afterwards, my moods were a bit all over the place (I have bipolar disorder so this is not totally uncommon for me but it was different). It was from the surgery. I was just very hyper sensitive and emotional with a bit of anxiety. Nothing I couldn’t handle myself and work through though. I would say just to let your psychiatrist know that you will be getting surgery and that you may need some temporary adjustments to your medications and don’t be afraid to call and ask for those changes if you need them. I, thankfully didn’t have to change anything but my bipolar and anxiety were pretty stable with my meds going into it.

    Just for fun

Well you will be there (not needing one) soon enough. I just didn’t know how often you travel and someone on here mentioned buying one and I thought it was a good option to pass along.

    Anyone with a traveling job?

I was just thinking…just because your room doesn’t have a microwave doesn’t mean there is not a microwave you can use anywhere in the hotel. Many hotels have a Continental breakfast area that will have a microwave or there may be a break room with one that they don’t mind guests using. You could ask when you check in and if there is one you could go grocery shopping. That may cut down on some of the restaurant foods.

They sell them on Amazon. If you brought it with you, you could be more discreet than having to ask for one. Just until you get down to not needing one. Just a thought.

It’s a small, thin body weight scale. Well smaller than a normal one. Stalling

I just googled it and they make portable scales that are for travel. Like 23-30 bucks on Amazon. At least that way you could keep an eye on it.

    Stalling

It could just be water weight from the salt that restaurants use.

    Protein Shake Auditions

I have heard that our body can only absorb so much protein at once so if you get the 42 ones it may be best to finish at two sittings.

    Constipated HELP!!

Milk of magnesia is what worked for me in the short term. I’m sure others will have a different suggestion. In the long term I have been taking a heaping spoonful of soluble fiber in my crystal light daily and I haven’t had any issues at all since.

    Just for fun

Being able to shop in the regular sizes. I am still not down to my goal weight so I have only ordered a few things online thus far so I am still looking forward to this. I just wish my best friend would decide to have the surgery too so we can have fun shopping together like we used to. We still have fun shopping now but we shop for house decor and stuff like that, not clothes.
  13. I had made up my mind that I wanted bypass to because some things I read said you lose more weight with bypass. The doctor told me that he would do either one if I really wanted it but he suggested I go with sleeve because I have bipolar disorder and there can be medication absorption issues after the bypass that are more common than they are with sleeve. So I went with the sleeve and I was 35 BMI pre-surgery. I am almost 8 months out now I am 13 pounds from a normal BMI (177 pounds and still losing). Part of me still thinks this process may have been a little easier had I gone with bypass but at the same time I am glad I went with the sleeve because it is working. I am glad that I had to the sleeve because I am OK so far on just one multivitamin and calcium. My doctor explained it to me like using a power tool for something that you can get away with just using a hammer that the bypass was just overkill for me. The only thing would be your indigestion I would bring that up and I would like to think no they won’t think you’re lying if they do I would see a different doctor because you need to have trust going both ways
  14. Try not to be too discouraged. These are the hurdles that your insurance company hopes will make you give up so they don’t have to pay for your surgery. Keep getting treatment for your depression and do the best you can with your weight. I bet once you have a surgery date you will be able to lose a bit if you want to. Be kind to yourself though. Depression is real and weight gain or loss is not at all uncommon. I have actually had it present both ways in myself. When I was younger I would lose weight during bouts of depression but now that I am older and also on medication it makes me gain (not sure if it’s age or the meds that cause it but I can’t change either so I just accept it). I have my fingers crossed for you that your consult appointment goes on as planned and you are able to officially start this journey. Once you are on the other side of surgery looking back you will realize it goes faster than you think. But definitely keep getting treatment for that depression because you want that under control before surgery to give yourself the best chance at losing all your weight post surgery. Keep posting on here too. This is a pretty special community. It’s been very helpful for me. Congratulations on your decision to pursue WLS and best of luck on the next few hurdles. You’ve got this.

    Stalling

I also had the three week stall. As well as a couple others along the way so don’t be discouraged if this isn’t the only one. I am almost 8 months out now and while the loss has slowed I am still losing. Just stick to your plan and the weight will just start dropping again.

    Water Consumption

The three week stall others mentioned is very common. Just stick to your plan and the weight loss will pickup. I never had any problem drinking liquids either. I tried to slow down but if I drink without thinking about it I realize I can drink as much as i did pre surgery.

    Pre-Op Struggling

The pre op diet was the hardest part for me too. The liquid and purée phase aren’t fun but at least you are losing weight and most are not hungry so it’s not as bad. Just try to occupy your mind with other things and hang in there. It is definitely worth it.
  18. You can always seek out a bariatric therapist and a nutritionist on your own and see them as needed. Of course you will have to pay but at least you know that is an option.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

My surgery was in March but I may be able to help. I packed toiletries but I wasn’t allowed to shower till the third day. I only ended up staying one night so I didn’t need those. I wore the same comfy clothes home that I wore to the hospital (with fresh undergarments). I was glad I had an extra long charging cable for my iPad and phone. I used the iPad because I brought it but would’ve been fine with just my phone since I slept most of the time. I did also Use my Bluetooth earbuds to listen to NetFlix at night so it would block out some of the noise since I am a super light sleeper. I was also glad someone here told me to bring pajama pants to wear while walking The halls. That way I didn’t have to deal with a robe over all the tubes and wires but my bottom was covered. Other than that they really do provide you with everything you need. They have to take your bag in preop and keep track of during surgery and until they find a room for you so try not to overpack. I brought a really small duffel I had from when I actually went to the gym and they said thank you for packing light. Ooh and you may want to just leave your jewelry at home. They make you take it off and they ask that you not bring valuables.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

You say vegetable based. Are you adding beans? If not, They are a great source of protein if meat is not sitting well.

    Three month stall

I had a few stalls. One lasted three weeks and I was worried it was the end of the loss but the loss picked back up and slowly but surely I continue to lose. Just stick to your plan. Oops. Looks like your loss did pick back up. Glad to hear it.
  23. Congratulation. Keep up the good work.
  24. Glad to hear she is doing a little better each day. She is lucky to have your supporting her. Head hunger is a VERY REAL thing and even though most of us lose the actual hunger immediately post surgery the head hunger remains. Usually one can tell the difference because real hunger you want to eat anything (even fruit and veggies sound delicious) while head hunger you crave something specific (usually things you shouldn’t have). If the head hunger remains and is a problematic many of us benefit from talking to a bariatric therapist. I eat when I am board and emotional eat and am trying to find a therapist to help with this. I am still losing weight and working the program but worry if I don’t get the head hunger under control I will gain it back at the first real stressful circumstance. I hope this helps.
