It really should resolve shortly. I think for most people it’s more like a few weeks or a month. Of course I have seen some it lasted a little longer.

Out of pocket payment before Insurance??
ShoppGirl replied to AmandaD.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a deductible and co insurance and they asked me “if I would like to take care of it beforehand.” I’m guessing if I said no they would’ve expected some sort of payment arrangement before. That being said the same hospital called my husband less than 48 hours after he left the ER to set up a payment arrangement for their estimated charges. They hadn’t even billed the insurance yet and I said I’d rather wait till he get the bill because I believe their estimate was wrong. They were fine with my waiting. If I had to guess, they are most likely going to want at least an agreement to what you are going to pay and when. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
ShoppGirl replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is so awesome. I know we all get fitter and healthier but I love to hear when people literally get off of medications. This surgery literally changes lives. -
I didn’t have any incision pain but I would think it would resolve after a few months at least. two years out if I still had pain I would be asking my dr to make sure that everything healed correctly (have they mentioned it at their followup visits?). I have been hanging out around here for over a year and I haven’t heard of anyone else mention pain that far out I don’t think. Maybe others will say differently but It can’t hurt to give a quick call and make sure that’s typical or at least mention at their next follow up.

Congratulations on your surgery date. Yea I literally woke up early that day and counted down the hours and then minutes. Your almost there.
-
Yea it goes by faster than you think. There is actually quite a bit to learn if you want to be well prepared in advance so hang out here and ask lots of questions.

I was thin when I met my husband and have gained and lost many times throughout our marriage so he pretty much already knew what to expect. But my marriage hasn’t changed since surgery.

I had very little pain post op but my muscles did feel like I had done like 1000 sit ups or crunches. I was thankful I have an adjustable bed and I just slept with the head elevated. This just made it easier to get up and down. A bed wedge would have accomplished the same thing though if you don’t have or can’t get comfortable in a recliner. They have them at medical supply and Amazon.

Best tips for preparation?
ShoppGirl replied to Gucci73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn’t have to use this one with my surgery but you can sign up for the free month of Walmart delivery if you need anything immediately post surgery. -
Vitamin suggestions liquids are awful [emoji20]
ShoppGirl replied to Blue432's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Tell your team you are struggling and ask if you can be cleared to take pills. Teams vary on this but many of us were swallowing pills in the hospital so it’s possible you will get cleared. -
Doubting Whether I Should Proceed
ShoppGirl replied to djhobbes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If I were you I would seriously consider bariatric therapy. You can work out what’s right for you in terms of surgery or not at this time, get the tools to deal with your food pusher either way and they can help you to address this person when and if you decide to tell them you want surgery. You will most likely be required to see one to get an evaluation at some point during the process anyways and many people swear that they help them tremendously to deal with food issues that Some of us have. -
I had never heard of this but if it is the same as DS surgery it’s been around a while and seems to be a good surgery. It’s a little more drastic than the bypass or sleeve but it is said to produce more weight loss. If your doctor thinks it’s warranted I would consider it. The main thing I have heard that is really different is that you may need to take some extra vitamins post surgery. We all have to take them in the beginning and most people have to take some for life but DS usually have to take a few more. As long as you are someone who will comply with taking vitamins probably 3 or 4 times a day for life it should be an option. I would check out Hop Scotch’s suggestion though and see what others who have had the surgery have to offer.

Food intolerance after wls
ShoppGirl replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I admit I still haven’t tried anything deep fried so I am not sure about that but pretty much anything I makes at home before surgery I can tolorate after. The only thing I just don’t seem to enjoy the taste of afterwards is this southwest ranch seasoning packet I used to use to make chicken tacos. I used to love it and now it’s just blah. On the other hand I used to make myself eat fish once a week and now I actually enjoy it a little more. Still mild fish like mahi and snapper but it’s a taste change for me. -
Gonna make sure I follow the rules
ShoppGirl replied to Candigrl1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am able to eat fast without any issue and idk if it’s a blessing or a curse. I think it’s good that your body reminds you to eat slow so you can feel your full cues. I try to eat slow but I don’t get the painful reminders that I’m sure I would be more likely to do it for. -
Doctors in Mexico who perform on lower BMI?
ShoppGirl replied to ESGSkinnyLegend's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I think the lowest I have ever heard of them doing the surgery is a 30 BMI and that’s usually if you have medical issues that make it necessary. I am not sure whether any doctor would do it for a BMI of 25. -
Considering lapband nervious but need help loseing weight and keep off
ShoppGirl replied to Bulletproof's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Is there a reason that you are interested in the lap band instead of sleeve, DS or bypass. As others have said many doctors don’t even do them anymore. -

Laxatives Before Surgery ?
ShoppGirl replied to fed-up's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only heard that mentioned like once or twice on here. I don’t think that is the standard at all. Your pre op paperwork would probably say it if it’s required but it couldn’t hurt to give a quick call just in case. The girls up front should know the answer. -
Question on hair loss
ShoppGirl replied to Candigrl1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually never had any hair loss. Or at least not enough that I noticed. -
I cheated on my Pre op
ShoppGirl replied to Only Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be fine just don’t do it again. And definitely DONT do it post op. The worst thing that can happen pre op is they have to cancel your surgery. Post op you can end up in hospital or worse. You can do this. Prove It to yourself from now till surgery so you know you can do it post op. -
What to pack for hospital stay and things needed post op once at home?
ShoppGirl replied to Bricam20's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I brought loose fitting pajama pants to wear under my gown. I just slept in them but if that’s not comfy you may want a robe to slip on when you walk. I also brought an extra long phone charging cord and was glad I did cause outlets are sparse. -
Not everyone gets to a “normal” BMI. According to my team it’s not uncommom to settle into a new weight that is slightly obese according to BMI.

I haven’t searched for a therapist post surgery but I have bipolar disorder and I went through five or six therapists before I found one that I like. You need to feel comfortable with someone to share your most intimate thoughts. Don’t give up though, you will find them.
-
I haven’t noticed a difference but have definitely heard that it happens. I am on medication that reduces mine though so maybe that why.

That’s awesome. Glad to hear it. Just keep sipping and walking and remember you did still just have major surgery so you may feel tired. Just give into it and rest when your body tells you to and it should help you recover a little quicker since we heal while we sleep. I had very little pain as well but I was still wiped out. I took naps daily for a while post surgery.
